There's no magic involved with the cap. It's just math. Saying they'll figure it out later is just turning a blind eye to the issue.

Regardless, Drury traded Buch rather than pay him and then trade him a year later. That was management's answer to this issue. Saying they can now add Kane and figure it out later flies in the face of what they have already done.

Are you honestly going to tell me that you'd rather have Kane at 25 or 50% rather than Buch and the boatload of assets it will take to get Kane at that price? What exactly are you prepared to give up for Kane? Because it's going to take a lot.
Look, im not trying to be a dick, even though I come across that way sometimes, I just want the team to win like everyone else and I think it takes a compliment of players, youth and veterans.

Again, they will figure the cap out with respect to Kane, if that is in fact the route they plan to go, and as far as the Buch trade is concerned, I think it was a huge mistake, then and now because it is the exact position we are weakest, but that is water under the bridge. Most people often overlook the fact that the guy we traded for has been out for the vast majority of the season and we have no idea what Sammy might have contributed. Also, we really don’t have any idea what Kane might cost.

The price to acquire Kane at %50, and to pay another team to retain 25%, is going to be extremely high. And unless the cap goes up significantly in 23-24 (doubtful) or we trade Trouba while he's still on his NMC (doubtful), we won't have the space to re-sign him.
Lindgren at 2.5M, Goodrow at 3.5M. Trouba is probably not getting traded but that would be an 8M AAV savings. Teams could easily take Lindgren or Goodrow which would total a 6M savings vs the cap.

Yeah because the difference between this team and a cup is more offense.
It might be. When they are struggling so mightily at scoring 5v5, I'm not sure how you can make a statement like that. Of course there are other issues with controlling play but the Rangers absolutely would be in a much better position to win the cup with more offense.

Kane doesn't win faceoffs and doesn't do board battles.

If you want to sell jerseys and make headlines, that's a move. But from a substance point of view, how does he make the team better/strengthen deficiencies?
This is the Rangers' MO.

I personally don't think this is the way to go, but this is something I see Dolan pressuring Drury into doing.

I don't think Center is a position of need exactly. Just have to find the right players there, not the best. Strome is a perfect example: he was not 'a legit 2C' when we acquired him for all of Ryan Spooner.

wat?

you basically just said it's 'not a need, we just have to find someone'

Listening to NHL network Radio. With Paton,Pagnotta. Sounds like Rangers are front runners for Kane.

I heard on NHL Sirius radio about a week ago, they had someone from chicago on talking about the franchise and trades.. He mentioned only the rangers when talking about Kane.. Said the price to aquire would take kakko. I laughed when i heard that

I don’t really understand why fans concern themselves so much with the cap? The organization has people in place that deal with that single issue specifically. If they can make a move work they will, if they can’t, they won’t. The incessant bickering over cap implications is tedious at best, and in my opinion, the team should assemble the best team they can, year after year, and not deal in perpetual rebuilds with championships that may never come just because….a Youth.
It's not tedious at best. Let's deal with the reality facing this team. I remember your thoughts about the Rangers rebuild in 2018. You didn't like it. I remember the Rangers played Ottawa on a Saturday afternoon before the 2018 deadline. The Rangers were awful in that game. You posted after the game about how the Rangers should keep trying to win with their current group. Rebuilds never work. You fought with everyone in the thread. There is a salary cap in place. The cap will be flat for at least another two seasons.

Has anyone here actually watched Domi the last couple years? Some comparing him to Miller its crazy!!
Domi isn’t good. Don’t get the obsession. They Rangers made their “toughness” moves in the offseason. They don’t need more overcorrection on that front.

Would you trade Kakko for 2 years of Kane at 50 ish% retention if you feel Kakko is a 50/50 potential bust and they make it work cap wise? If you feel you could win the cup in the next 2 years you might....

I'm going to keep harping on this. Over the last two Stanley Cup winning seasons the Tampa Bay Lightning's Curtis McElhinney had almost an identical save % and an almost identical record to Georgiev. Kindly F off with the nonsense that the Rangers are a terrible team sans Igor.

Problem is i dont see Kakko as a bust. He just needs some time, hes a 21yo kid. Let him develop. And no im not trading what i see as a core long term piece of my franchise for 2 years of Kane bc i dont see this team winning the cup this year or next without the proper 3rd line and actual center that can center the 2nd line.

I don't think our 5v5 scoring is the most pressing issue. I'm more concerned with the amount of opportunities we give up. I don't see this team being able to score it's way out of it's other deficiencies.

Would I like us to improve our 5v5 scoring? Of course but trying to solve that with Patrick Kane at the expense of a guy like Kakko or Miller is terrible idea, IMO.
