I'm failing to see how waiving Tinordi can have anything to do with a major trade.
a bunch of conjecture that we need to make space for Chychrun since we're trading Nils and Kravtsov, not on the roster

people trying to will it into existence

I honestly wouldn't like a JT Miller move. He's not a major difference maker 5v5, he's a detriment on defense over the past couple seasons

What, you mean it’s not organizational malpractice to pay exhorbitant rental prices for a player that doesn’t really help you??

in all seriousness where do you expect that cupboard to play in this lineup with guys locked up long term?

They don't have to play, it's currency that we won't have to address any other potential situation in the next few years. That's fine if you think those 2 pieces are worth the cost, i'm just not sure yet. How long would J.T. even be under contract for?

Miler AND Chychrun would really set our pipeline back. I can't imagine what the cupboard would like like after those deals....

You would essentially be all in for the next three years plus whatever Kakko and Laf give you, and then have no more future than the average team.

Which would be a pathetic outcome for this rebuild given it’s one time trajectory.

I will say this, Drury's experience winning a Cup in Colorado will play a role here. That team was built incredibly on the back-end with Bourque, Blake, Foote and De Vries along with Roy in net. If that's the model he is going for, he has Fox and Trouba already and Lindgren actually tracks similarly to someone like De Vries in terms of rounding out a top-4...

Now we just need a Sakic and Forsberg.

One guy who has been bandied about here a bit but not much in depth would be Max Domi. I wonder how high the Rangers front office is on him as a player and if they think he could play center. I say this because he has decent production @ 17 points in 28 games on Columbus which isn't exactly setting the world on fire in just over 13 minutes of time per game. If the plan were to go after Chychrun and let Strome walk due to cap purposes, I could see the team kicking the tires on a 2 year deal for Domi. Let him come in and play with Lafreniere and Kaako or Panarin or whoever the hell gels to round out the top-6. He should get limited defensive matchups with Zibanejad and Goodrow/Barron as the 1/3C's. Perhaps he makes $3.5m per season? Maybe $4m?

riiiight it’s currency so meaning you trade them to make yourself better which you just said so that’s different than what your initial worry was about the cupboard being bare

It's clear the organization thinks Zibanejad is 1 of the solutions there and the wing depth is better now and moving forward (assuming Lafreniere and Kaako develop) than what Colorado had. Drury, Hejduk, Tanguay were the guys I recall mainly on that team.

JTM is another Strome in my eyes.

and he's not a long-term solution

Agreed. Not the right target; in fact, there’s not one on the market this instant, unless Chychrun is available for maybe just Kravtsov and a second or something.

That deal is fine because yes you’ve added another defensive player but now you can trade KAM for an equal young center.

The only thing Miller does is possibly kick the can down the road another year for when the dead cap is removed and Trouba's deal moves away from NMC.

Aside from that, Miller will be older than Strome when his contract begins and more than likely more expensive. I'm not a fan of the move in general.

So he's a quitter. Great guy to have around.

That's pretty harsh. The guy is a vet who has played a total of 12 games between the AHL and NHL this year and has been scratched, what, 25+ times? He's valueless at this point and deserves a shot elsewhere if someone has a spot for him. No loss to us and possible gain for the player. If anything, things like this help your rep around the league as a franchise. I don't have a problem with this at all.

The cupboard would go from top 5 to top 15-20. We’d also be able to restock it somewhat by moving them or other pieces if it doesn’t work out. Also, high chance a few of those pieces we move don’t pan out. We can prospect hug like the Yankees have the last several years and hope the kids pan out or we can take some chances. Chychrun would fit both windows with his age.

If he's paired with Trouba on the 2nd pair and the cost isn't outlandish I wouldn't be against it. I'm just not sure that it's the Rangers most pressing need. It'll be interesting to see what Drury does in the coming weeks.
It’s not a pressing need but how often do you get a chance to add a premium player with a reasonable contract?
