I could see a scenario where the team thinks it has ample depth on the wing, specifically less expensive quality depth on the wing (Lafreniere, Kaako, Othmann, Berard, Cuylle, Barron, Goodrow, Blais) and see Chychrun as the right piece to augment this blue-line moving forward where they bite the bullet for now and then deal Kreider in the off-season. Dealing Kreider probably allows them to retain Strome and add Chychrun.

I'm still not sure this is the right move overall.

Lundkvist Krav 1st Kreider for Chychrun is not something I'm interested in personally. Im not naive to the possibility of Kreider or Trouba getting moved, but i have to assume the Rangers preference is for that to be a "last resort" type thing.
Kreider also isn't waiving to go to Arizona or wherever they'll be playing so he'd have to go elsewhere, too.

If you bring in Chychrun you're trading other assets like Miller, Chytil, etc to try to bring in a young center who can immediately fill in that second line center role. Rangers need another RW as well.

Think the Rangers focus really needs to be on the center position going forward. Either bringing in a high-end 3rd line guy or replacing Strome.

I think Goodrow or Barron become the permanent NYR 3C starting next season.

2C, if Strome leaves, has some cheap UFA options. Paul Stastny is one. I'd be knocking down Minnesota's door about Marco Rossi

Minnesota can't afford to trade Rossi with their cap situation in the upcoming years.

We need to keep Barron at 3c with chytil and goodrow/laf on his wing for an extended period to see what we have.

then we can see where we stand by TD.

this way we dont rush to make a trade we don’t necessarily need. If Barron shows promise than i ride it with him to get experience and maybe make a trade to bolster the 4th line.

if he looks overwhelmed, than make a move for a 3c.

i honestly dont want us to make many moves. Let the kids get as much experience as possible this year. I dont think we are winning it anyway. Team is too green.

Keep the assets in a deep draft.

I thought Barron was really good in the Anaheim game.

Didnt take many risks. Good effort plays on the wall getting the puck out and keeping the puck in. Was smart out there and didnt do anything to really hurt his chances.

And thats exactly what they needed from him in a game where they were coming off a loss, on the road in the middle of a long trip with several guys out.

By all accounts, the only place talking about Chychrun to the NYR is this thread. I know the FO has been extremely quiet lately but if the NYR were poking around I'm sure we'd have heard something.
I’m okay with the front office being quiet.

It's becoming more and more odd that he isn't an every game player in the bottom 6. It's not like McKegg has been useful as anything other than a penalty killer.

Way too early to make a call like that and The NHL is a results league, not a development league. With Covid and the Rangers poor options at 6/7, they'll get their games in and defensemen take longer to progress towards their ceiling. Be patient.
Need to see more of Jones still. I like what I have seen for the most part though. To me, I am completely confident if we go the rest of the season with Nils as our bottom pair RD. He is already solid defensively that I am confident in him on the ice in that role. I need to see more of Jones defensively in games. I love his ability to move the puck, but have less confidence in him in his own zone at this point. I think he will be fine there in the grand scheme of things, but I think he is a bit behind Nils there right now and I care more about that than the gap offensively between the two.

Stay pat... dont trade anyone. I am content with this in the playoffs:

Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Kreider - Zibby - Kakko
Laffy - Barron - Chytil
Reaves - Rooney - Hunt

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Jones - Schneider
Nemeth

Igor

Manage the workloads for the rookies. Schneider, Jones and Barron should be getting regular days off. Similar to what Tampa did with Stamkos in his rookie season.
I don't think the rangers can rely on Goodrow being an everyday top six player. I wouldn't mind trading for a veteran role player for that third line. The rangers desperately need a more responsible third line. Finding ways to keep Laf out of the top six is causing too many issues with our third line. Get Goodrow on the third line and maybe with the addition of another veteran you can create a line that you can play against anyone allowing you to win matchups with the Panarin line. If the coach plays the Panarin line like a second line in the playoffs they will get killed and it doesn't matter who that RW is because Strome is too weak defensively and Panarin will cheat for offense. This is the third year we're seeing the same out of them so I don't expect it to change. Strome has been great for the rebuild but he has no 2way game whatsoever and the rangers need to plan accordingly for it this playoff run.

Jabroni - great word!

The fact is that our front office is probably locked up tighter than it ever has been, nobody outside really knows whats going on. Which is fine.

Chychrun makes Miller expendable imo. Chytil already is.

This team’s top 4 defense is already very good and still improving. I have no interest whatsoever in severely complicating our roster construction by bringing in Chychrun.

We need to be focused on the team’s weaknesses. Middle 6 C and depth defense are the problem areas. Depth defense likely solves itself with our prospect depth.

Deal assets for a C. If you’re hell bent on being creative, maybe find the C as part of a three way trade or by somehow helping facilitate Chychrun moving to his new home.

Again I think we are getting itchy trigger fingers since the team is set to make the playoffs for the first time in a while.

Let's go to battle with what we have and let the kids gain valuable experience of what it is like to compete in the postseason. Lots of meat and potatoes hockey lessons inbound.

Maybe Kravtsov rejoins the team late, maybe he gets dealt after his KHL season
I do think we need depth. Guys better than McKegg and Brodzinski, in case we have more injuries/positive tests. And I’d love to get the Georgiev and Hajek situations resolved once and for all. But in general, I agree. No need to shake things up.

I don’t really agree with this. Panarin isn’t going anywhere. If for arguments sake we want to say Kreider is, then Lafreniere goes up and Othmann winds up in the third line hell that the Rangers have created for themselves due to lack of cap space and then what? If there is a team that wants to buy high on Othmann I let them and I’m not unhappy about it. Wingers are by far the easiest position to draft/acquire elsewise. If I can get a good deal for some magic beans, I’m doing it. Defenders are not redundant assets if they are upgrades Rangers still need help at LHD.
I think it’s a bit of a red herring, the idea that playing on the third line is like jail. It actually should be a good opportunity to get weaker matchups. Our third line has been bad but the third line in general can be a sheltered and productive spot. Plenty of players have made hay on the third line. I think Chytil is just a black hole offensively and has limited our current third line. I’m hoping Goodrow ends up as the 3C. I think that line would get much more productive. Also think Othmann may get called up sooner than we may think.
