You'd be giving up a lot to get Giodano, You'd be paying for a top 3 dman and getting a slow bottom pair.....id prefer Leddy imo, someone cheaper but that can move his feet and the puck.

I can definitely get on board with Leddy. I watch a lot of islander games and they sorely miss him

I think the D is beautiful as-is, really. Replace Nemeth with Jones and we still have Lundkvist and Robertson in the wings. Where does Chrychrun fit in?

Not advocating for a trade, but Chychrun EASILY makes Miller available.

Miller will be 22 tomorrow
Chychrun will be 24 in March. The difference in age is negligible

if you want to keep Miller, Jakob would make Lindgren expendable.

If you want to keep both guys, you move Jones and Robertson in a package for some forward help.

Chychrun - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Lindgren - Schneider

that's a hell of a defence headed into the POs and would be disgustingly good for the next 10 years as the average age is just under 24

that's just an embarrassment of riches right there.

Soundly? Do you think every win in a playoff game is a perfectly sound game? It’s ridiculous to sit here and cherrypick away every time this team wins a game. You find another reason why its not enough. They are 10-8 right now against better teams. Above .500. They are taking care of business against the crappy teams. Just like every other good team does.

this has been said in baseball, but really applies to every sport

if you are .500 against all the good teams in the league and beat the teams (for the most part) you should beat, at the end of the season you are probably 1st in your division and considered a legit contender.

Debrincat is the one guy on chicago i would love to get.
the cost would be Miller, a first and keep adding. he would be an amazing fit on this team but would never ever happen unless you are seriously overpaying. Debrincat is 24 they would be nuts to trade him.

What about nils, Kravtsov and a 1st. They'd have to bite on that.

All of this “better teams” banter… how are the “better teams” vs. the “better teams”? I’d think a winning record isn’t really a bad thing in that department.

Some are better against better than others. Scheduling makes a big difference too, for example Florida has had a "tougher" run than TBL, I think. Florida is very good.

We have to trade for good players on expiring deals and make a push for the Cup this year. We have multiple players in their productive peaks, pushing 30 (Panarin, Zib, Kreider, Strome), coinciding with a Vezina and Norris caliber tandem (Shesterkin, Fox), and a ton of cap space that we won't have available to us after this year.

It isn't entirely clear that Kakko and Laf will be able to fill the production voids once our better players begin to decline in the next 3-5 years. There are no top-six caliber young Centers in our system. And we certainly aren't getting much cap space before then. So in a weird way, this season might be our best shot.

Trade picks and prospects, acquire Hertl or another big time C on an expiring to turn the 3rd line into a dynamic offensive weapon. Get a veteran LD to anchor the third pair. Get a RW who can score goals, has playoff experience, and can float up and down the middle six as needed.

If Turk wants defense on that line... how about something 'outside of the box' instead of the same dull and unrewarding choices?

Panarin Barron Strome

I don't think they would. Debrincat is a 35 plus goal scorer not even at his prime age yet. The other two prospects have done nothing at the NHL level. Maybe if you replace Nils with KAM they would. He's got another year after his deal this year.

No telling what the front office might do, but I'm diametrically opposed. IMO this MAYBE gets NYR to the Semis, rentals walk because we can't fit them under the cap and now the cupboard is bare. To me it's a nightmare scenario. I'm completely opposed to spending good assets on rentals this year. We shall see though.

I would do Chytil Ludkqvist 1st for Chychrun tomorrow, I just don't think it'll be that cheap.

With our stable of defenders including a Norris winner already in the fold, I can't really give up a huge package for another defenseman.

Time and time again we see that elite centers win Cups. Is it always the case? No, but it really, really flippin' helps.

I'm still center hunting.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Chytil
Laf-Hertl-Goodrow

How does the money work without getting rid of Trouba?

Moving forward?

Impossible.

But get rid of Trouba, though, if that's the plan. You're gonna let a 2nd pair defender who has an NHL ready replacement in the pipeline hold up having that ridiculous center depth?

I know Trouba is good. Hertl is better. Especially when you consider we have nothing at center and plenty on defense.

I'm not even a fan of trading for Hertl, but if we do, and I then had to choose between moving Trouba or letting Hertl walk, the choice is easy. You move Trouba and bring back Hertl.
