This is impressive for being on a horrid team.

I have no problem with adding... I just want the clusterfuk of dead weight to be dealt with.

Barron not getting a fair shake because of players like McKegg is killing me. We have way too many 4th liners creeping into the top9.
I'm not sure mckegg affects barron and if he does that is a bigger issue. mckegg will never have an nhl role beyond a fill in 4th liner. barron obviously has a future beyond that, but it is easier to bounce mckegg around between nhl, taxi and the ahl as well as in and out of the lineup rather than doing that to barron. also mckegg is just going out there to pk, that is something they dont trust barron to do yet, I dont even know if he has been doing that in the ahl???

I wouldn't mind Miller if the price is fine. I actually prefer they add Kessel for the rest of the year. He is still a possession monster and is producing. He also has been great in the playoffs before. Add in the fact that I really don't think he will cost much and is a RW, he is could be a solid add for the team.

Why isn't the coach correcting that then? It's the coach's job to make sure his players are playing the right way. We are approaching the half way point of the season, don't you think it's well past time for the coach to get his players doing the right things and shooting the puck more? That's all on the coach.
But this would now be two coaches that cant get this group to shoot the puck more, and a lot of that stems from the fact the best player and his bff refuse to do it. So what should Gallant do? Do you want him to bench panarin to send a message (to him and the team) about the need to listen and shoot more or would gallant just get criticized for that? I am seriously asking what the solution is. We all know the problem, but if it was as easy as "hey shoot the puck more" than I think it would already be fixed after 3 years...

Maybe they were the wrong two coaches?

I want Gallant to coach his team, that's what I want him to do. It's on him to get them to play the right way. Whatever strategy he needs to devise to do so he should. But the way the team plays night in and night out is the coach's job.

at the end of the day players play, and everyone knew and knows what panarin is and how he plays. his passing creativity wore off and EVERYONE else around here. Do you remember how stale this org was with possession and passing?

Regardless of who the coach is they can tell him or anyone else to shoot the puck till they are blue in the face and the player has the choice to listen. Your only recourse is to remove ice time, same as you would with a strome or anyone else that takes stupid ass penalties. You get them to stop by denying ice. So again if you want to send that message to the team that guys need to shoot and hey LISTEN TO ME and he benches panarin than are people okay with that or are they going to start pissing and moaning that the coach benched our star?

I am honestly a little frustrated with the obsession with rentals in ranger land right now.

All indications are that teams that make major additions at the deadline becomes worse. Why are so many keen on dealing top assets to get a big name that won’t make us better?

I don’t get it.

There is nothing in it for us stockpiling prospects in absurdity. I have nothing against dealing a number of these kids.

But what we needs is good contracts the coming 3-4 years. Not to piss those assets away by adding some big name vet that won’t even help us.

I think there is a happy medium out there between getting a rental or two and not breaking the bank. I don't want to mortgage major pieces for a rental. A 2nd round pick and a player B level prospect or someone like Hajek or Gauthier, I don't see why not to at least strengthen our line up if we can, especially since we can eat contracts easily. It is why someone like Kessel makes sense. We won't be giving up a big piece and I can live with one less 2nd round pick.

One thing I really hope Drury does is use that cap space to grab some free draft picks with helping with retention for teams trying to fit players in. I understand if he doesn't want to help a team in the East due to having to potentially face them, but there should be no reason to not be involved with teams in the West.

That is fair and I agree for sure, nothing against adding some depth just rounding out the roster.

Just the big name rental obsession that do t make sense to me.

I was watching Montreal last night and man I would love Josh Anderson on this team. he has an absolutely horrible contract though.

He has come in talks, but isn't at the top of their list.

Right now I'd say the odds of him coming back aren't favorable, primarily based on asking price, but it's still on the table.
Hey edge, how serious are we on Hertl. I’d say he’s at the top of our wish list atm. As far as ammo for this years run
Assuming they can’t get a Larkin etc.

This guy gets it. Part of the reason the Rangers 4th line has bad stats is because they have ben relied on to do more than needed anyways with all of the injuries/COVID. An easy way to solve that is to put guys in the proper slots. Lehkonen, while not a 'sexy' name, is a VERY GOOD addition to this teams 3rd line long term. He would be an addition for the next 3-4 years and he plays a style of game that is often overlooked and hard to come by in skilled young players (something this organization should have quite a bit of). It was similar with the Goodrow addition. These guys know their roles and are good in areas of the ice that skilled players often don't need to play in at younger ages.

Lehkonen is priority #1 for me. Solidify the 3rd line.

I'm ok with that. Players that aren't playing the right way should be given that. I have no idea why K'Andre was in the lineup the game after two games of bad giveaways. He should have sat.

But it's more than that. A coach SHOULD be able to get through to his players. That is literally his job. If he can't, like I said, maybe it's the wrong two coaches.

None of our prospects are untouchable. We're way overvaluing guys because they're our top guys and not close to top throughout the league. These aren't Kakko/Lafreniere level prospects at the moment.
And not even Lafreniere or Kakko should have been untouchable.

he does affect Barron. We have a bunch of 4th liners. It should be one of Hunt or McKegg.... not both.. There's no future with McKegg but he's Turk's pet.

I'd rather have the better, younger player play....

I think they are coming along from last year. The record indicates that. I am with you that they still need to improve, Gallant deserves more than half a season to get there, especially considering where they are in the standings
