I guess thats the difference between us. I am not convinced Kakko & Lafreniere will ever reach a point where they can carry the offensive load on a Stanley Cup contender. Not saying they wont be solid players, but going deep in the playoffs at a young age can only help. Kreider is a perfect example, he thrived at a young age in multiple playoffs runs and it helped him become the player he is now.

If Kakko and Laf aren’t gonna become stars then we are screwed and it’s time to go back to the drawing board anyway.

How do you get that experience? Being there. Add some depth and plan on making a deep run. It will only benefit the team long term for them to win a few rounds or god willing get to the final. Comparing this team to Hanks teams is apples to oranges, completely different makeup.

This Ranger team sitting on 8 million in cap space while in first place in the Metro in mid-January is indefensible. I want to see their possession numbers when they arent intentionally playing with a handicap compared to their peers. I think we lose sight of that sometimes.

The reason they are sitting on $8m of space is because they were trying to package their assets for long term 1C Jack Eichel.

Just sayin.

Just a gut feeling.

With Sakic and Drury being familiar. I find it not a coincidence both are linked to JT Miller within days of each other. He fits both teams like a glove, it's just a matter of who made the first move and who made the second move and why.

Genuine interest? Drive the price up?

Is Kadri the back up plan? Has he been discussed already?

It's been mentioned Sakics interest in Miller is to replace Kadri for the same reason we may replace Strome and that is their next contracts being UFA money.

Last summer was a crystal clear. Replace soft players with grit that has offence or potential. Strome doesn't provide much outside of a nice dance partner for Panarin, regardless of his point totals he may not be the best option I'm the Bigger picture, dollar for dollar.

Interesting chain of events between the two Orgs, GM's, and potential trade targets. There is a delicate dance there if Drury and Sakic are playing a game of poker.

I think they'll almost certainly trade their 1st this year if it can get them an impact top 6 forward, especially if they can keep the 2 2nds. Kravtsov I think is a sunk cost. His value isnt going to go up if we wait until the offseason. If you can get a roster player who isn't a rental I think its worth it to do so, Lehkonen comes to mind.

They shouldnt have an issue getting a solid rental bottom pair defenseman with their B level assets.

Great, and then we'll have no way to acquire a young long term center or two without gutting the defensive prospect depth.

You make some valid points, but i just dont believe adding a center in the draft is Drury's priority. I think they have earmarked enough money to add 1 more long term forward contract in the near term, whether it be Strome or someone comparable.

Im sure they were hoping Chytil would make a jump and solve the 2C issue, but hes clearly regressed and may not even be a C. Its hard to develop top 6 centers and the path of least resistance is to add one that is already there. They've got the pieces to do so.

Do they have the pieces to do it once they've traded a first, Kravtsov, and Jones as you keep suggesting we spend on rentals?

And then how do they address the other center spot they need to address, and also the long term RW spot that is vacated with Kravtsov's departure? Etc.

I can totally see Drury adding Miller, if he chooses to, to buy himself more time to find a long-term 2C and to see if Kakko and Lafreniere take the step next year. If they don't, then I can see him extending a guy like Miller to be the 2C and moving either of those two guys.

There is a massive difference in making some additions to help push a top 5 (top 7 at worst) team into a better position to contend versus panic trades at a deadline to take a 10 seed and hope that they sneak into the playoffs.

It is very obvious where nyr needs to get better, so if drury is at all competent he should be able to identify those areas and address them.

I wont be at all surprised to see him pay a little more to get some retention on a player with a little bit of term so that whatever deal(s) he makes aren't just for a couple month rental nor will it become a cap killer.

None of our prospects are untouchable. We're way overvaluing guys because they're our top guys and not close to top throughout the league. These aren't Kakko/Lafreniere level prospects at the moment.

I don’t think they’re untouchable, but I do think we need to be careful with the cap the next few seasons. An influx of cheap talent is going to be very important.

To be fair, neither are Kakko and Lafreniere.

Gallant's lineup decisions leave a lot to be desired but I think his credibility has done a lot of intangible good for the locker room. I'm of the opinion that the teams real issue is not shooting the puck enough. I honestly think the day it clicks for them that "hey, maybe we shouldnt try to pass the puck into the net" they will take off. It starts with Fox & Panarin and they are too good not to eventually realize that.

Yea Fox and Panarin shooting more is only a good thing. I like Fox shooting the GW last game. His shot isn't bad and Kreider got a cheap goal off it.

We don’t have an untouchable prospect guys. We have a ton of good prospects none are untouchable even for a top rental.

Schneider would be the only one but hes on the team right now so wouldn’t count him

I'll be honest, I am not the biggest supporter of making huge additions to this team as they are currently constructed. The team has not shown they can consistently control the pace of the game at 5v5 and that is almost a necessity to be able to make a run in the playoffs. However, the way I would analyze the team and determine which direction they should go and what an NHL organization will do, especially with the team in the position it is will be radically different, that's just how it is. As it stands, they will be adding, and it's probably going to hurt. The real interesting thing will be just how far are they willing to go? Will it be just one add and a couple minor moves? Or might we see a few major additions.

I agree, anyone who thinks there is even a possibility that they won't add 1-3 players at the TDL should probably start coming to grips with what is overwhelmingly likely to happen.

I support it because after this year the cap is likely to get super tight. Makes sense to strike now. I'd really like to see some of the best trade chips used on players with at least SOME term, but admittedly that also runs counter to the future cap projections.

I have no problem with adding... I just want the clusterfuk of dead weight to be dealt with.

Barron not getting a fair shake because of players like McKegg is killing me. We have way too many 4th liners creeping into the top9.

Why isn't the coach correcting that then? It's the coach's job to make sure his players are playing the right way. We are approaching the half way point of the season, don't you think it's well past time for the coach to get his players doing the right things and shooting the puck more? That's all on the coach.

10. Stealth add: Rangers. The East and West are completely different. The West will have a playoff dogfight, particularly in the Pacific and wildcard. Meanwhile, as improved as Detroit is, it will take a massive collapse for any of the eight current post-season teams not to make it. New York is in and Chris Drury keeps quiet, but I could see them taking a surprise swing.
Bolded = not even Elliotte Friedman knows whats going on in the Rangers front office.

Not sure if you're including Lafreniere in that but he's pretty close to untouchable for this organization

Yeah this is where I’m at

None of the prospects are untouchable in the right deal.
