What is going on with Caufield?
nothing, hes put up 8 points this season. He is not worth giving up a prospect of Nils for.

Suzuki for Nils Chytil and a first might get it done.
Not according to the Athletic, FWIW.
not true at all. Tampa had many drouin (3), connelly (6), and koekkek (10) all bust relative to their draft spot.
actually outside of stankos and hedman they have been pretty bad in round 1. Even the picks that are good, deangelo, they traded before he did anything with thwm.
the key is to hitting after round 1 as well.
I don't think so.
I think what I said is someone who can eventually transition to 1C as Mika ages out and slides to 2C, which hopefully becomes feasible at his salary as the cap rises.
Can we afford that cap hit tho?Suzuki for Nils Chytil and a first might get it done.

Actually re-reading what you wrote, I stand corrected.
Shit, if Dom at the Athletic says so might as well pack it in.
That's the kind of post you get when you come up something as ridiculous as "Rangers are going to trade Schneider for Hertl," which is a non-sensical thought.Insightful post of the day
Tampa has superstars on discounted contracts and relies on their AHL affiliate to develop their players into exactly what they need to be in the NHL. Kucherov, Point, Cirelli, Gourde, Palat, Killorn, Cernak, Johnson, Rutta, and even Vasilevsky all spent some time in the AHL between amateur and NHL play.
Some franchises have turned into value factories, with such strong cultures and such unanimous buy-in that they routinely snag guys off the crap heap who become huge contributors out of nowhere. Pittsburgh is probably the most obvious example; Tampa has become that as well; Boston has been that way, Washington in recent years. The Rangers can often feel like the opposite, and this year we've definitely been less than the sum of our parts.
If you told me when Gorton sent the letter that we'd miss the playoffs for four straight seasons and the next time we'd make it we'd be locked into a cast of underwhelming, expensive veterans with a phenom defenseman and goaltender, I would've been shocked considering the letter said the team was going for a different direction.
Yeah, I mean, I'm not moving Zibanejad out, nor am I saying any of these guys I'm proposing to chase will ever be prime Mika.
I'm saying Mika is 29 and some day in the not too distant future will no longer be a first line player, and it would be nice if we had a 20 year old who will, when that day comes, be a 23 year old ready to be a 65-70 point first line center flanked by Kakko and Lafreniere himself.
I tend to disagree with this notion when the 7th overall pick to kickstart the rebuild is no longer in the organization, a 9th overall is a malcontent with an attitude problem that may not even put a Rangers sweater on again, and you have one or both top 2 picks that underwhelm.Getting Fox kind of counters at least one top two pick bust
First we are not that far away and with the right deal can contend. As for developing the kids for the most part outside of a couple of kids on D and our supreme Goalie this team is being carried by the vets including Kreider who a ton of you wanted to trade and still are trying to trade. Kakko has had some decent games and Laf has struggled. Chytil point blank is a non contributor most nights. Developing works 2 ways. They need to show some improvement. In any case when you are close you sometimes have to go for it. You can't take for granted that in the next number of years we will contend. For one you never know how injuries impact a team's season and secondly contending down the road depends on some of these kids who have not shown much so far, so that starts becoming a leap of faith. I am not advocating selling the future but we have a surplus of assets in some areas that can be traded for assets to improve our chances.Yeah, we are simply not a top 5 team. If we were, that's a reason to push the rental button a little harder.
We are good but we're not that good.
Tap the breaks and keep developing the kids. Get a few more. Then see where we are.
Who are you quoting? Is that a quote of me? Did you read anything I posted haha. That's the kind of post you get when you come up something as ridiculous as "Rangers are going to trade Schneider for Hertl," which is a non-sensical thought.
If people are asking me what to do going forward, it is to not waste our young assets on aging players or players with no term, but instead find deals similar to those "hypothetical," deals, which you can say weren't real but were confirmed by a board insider to have been offered to us but the Rangers turned them down.
That's what to do moving forward. Don't spend on Pavelski and Hertl. Find how to get a Lundell, Newhook, Krebs, etc.
And those deals do come up, source, recent history.
I mean, I'll take what Dom says over most of the people here.

Of course, but the "few" is more like four players anyway. That's tough to do and we may not want to pull a trigger like that. Are they a top 5 team with a few additions? Certainly could be.

I'd like our chances better with those two, but what would that ultimately accomplish for this year. Do that when we are sure shots. It can still happen with what we have in a few years.I could do it with 2.
It'd be expensive, but Giordano+Hertl would push this team into that group.
St Louis beats us badly in a 7-game series. We don’t have the depth to compete against these teams.I'd agree all those teams are better than us, and possibly wash and st Louis too. We are the underdogs going into the playoffs, embrace it. Might shock the world and steal a round on the back of Fox, Bread and Igor. Would love that.
We need the youth to improve before we are legit, we all know this.

Here's a thought to rustle some jimmies. Was last night a showcase for Schneider to the team that has the Rangers most coveted trade target?
