Staple reporting that the Rangers & Habs have discussed Lehkonen. I think he fits perfectly for hat they need on the 3rd line. Chris Tierney is another interesting name he mentioned as a guy who can play 3C and shift Chytil to wing full time. Drury can probably get both without breaking the bank.

I wouldnt hate to see something like:

Kreider-Mika-Lafreniere
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lehkonen-Tierney-Chytil
Rooney-Goodrow-Reaves

Good to see Gorton is willing to be an adult and talk with the Rangers, hopefully Columbus would do the same. Gorton and JD should want to work with the Rangers on trades since I’m guessing they have some favorites from their time there, and would know our system better than other teams.

Yup, unless they let Hajek become a full timer and live with his mistakes, or go bonkers for Chychrun.

Matthew Robertson is a good prospect but he is a slow cooker. There are no guarantees he will be ready by next year, as good as Miller is even now, or that he is a steal. We heard first round talent but I'm going full Bill Parcells, he is what his record said he was and he was a second round pick. Sometimes a second round pick is a second round pick because 32 teams have decided that.

Chychrun is like when the Rangers got Yandle in 2015, redundant and not what is needed. There is a certain element to having roster stability and continuity. This is not the days of Phil Esposito as GM and make trades for the sake of making trades.

Miller/Trouba and Lindgren/Fox are good pairs and have chemistry. Subtracting one and adding Chychrun does not equal the same level of success or a better result. We saw what Fox looked like with Hajek and Nemeth.

All this Miller nonsense because he had two bad turnovers stems from frustrated Rangers fans looking to complain due to cabin fever (dealing with like 10 degrees weather in the Northeast, omicron impact) or intimacy issues, There, I said it and called out the fan base.
Chychrun would be a massive upgrade on D now, and in the future. He could easily line up next to Fox, allowing us to drop Lindgren to a pairing with Trouba. Or you can easily play him with Trouba forming a really solid top 4: Fox, Chychrun, Trouba, and Lindgren. How is he redundant for this roster? We don't have a D that can score goals from the backend, and he's no offensive specialist like Yandle was. Dropping Miller to the third pairing to play with whoever would further solidify the D depth. Miller is young enough to continue to get reps lower in the lineup. How about we go from good pairs to great pairs? If you want to compete in this league, you might as well upgrade especially with proven young players when possible. And no, I would not move roster D in acquiring Chychrun, use prospects, futures and maybe a young forward like Chytil if needed. He certainly would be cheap to acquire, but the team has plenty of assets that Az would be interested in. How often to 23 yo proven D become available like this?

Jarnkrok is another name Staple mentioned I’d be interested in

Chychurn would give the Rangers the best defense in the league, anyone who says he’s redundant doesn’t know what they’re talking about lol

If Laf stays on the right, Lehkonen is likely NY bound. He is the right age, cost, and Gordon and Drury know each other. One would think though that that means they will rebuild the 3rd line so probably chytil and Goat are gone.

Excuse my ignorance but doesn't Lehkonen suck? His numbers do not look good.

well I can see Lehkonen . Kakkos pal

Not really a point producing player. He is a solid bottom 6 defensively responsible player. That's something we need more of. We have offensive players, or players with offensive potential. We need more workers and 200 foot players. And more speed. And a bottom pairing d man. Like Gavrikov. We need a lot honestly. Haha

I would deal Miller for McDavid hands down, but that is about it. The rest I would have to think long and hard about.

He coughed up the puck twice? For me that is 100% a big so what. So does Fox too on a regular basis and he is about the most consistent person on earth I’ve ever seen.
This is an outrageous thing to say. You wouldn't get rid of Miller for Draisaitl or Mackinnon?

Staple is a good writer, but he’s been on the Isles beat for so long I doubt he’s as plugged into this organization at this point than he was with the Islanders. Especially now with how locked up tight the front office is.

Interested in Hertl too apparently.

Seravelli & LeBrun have both called out the Rangers specifically as teams to watch on Hertl. Have to assume he is their top target.

If they can add Hertl & a Lehkonen type player, it would go along way to solving the 5v5 issues imo. They need more veteran depth at forward, and they have the cap space and assets to make those moves without it hamstringing them in the future

my worry would be are they gonna pull an E Staal and use him 3rd line ?
No point then go get a RW

Yeah I don’t get this either. He’s a tremendous player, 23 and signed long term on a bargain deal. You absolutely look into what it would take to bring him here.

The rub is his injury history. Not about him being “redundant”.
