Seravelli & LeBrun have both called out the Rangers specifically as teams to watch on Hertl. Have to assume he is their top target.

If they can add Hertl & a Lehkonen type player, it would go along way to solving the 5v5 issues imo. They need more veteran depth at forward, and they have the cap space and assets to make those moves without it hamstringing them in the future

Disagree on that last point

If Laf stays on the right, Lehkonen is likely NY bound. He is the right age, cost, and Gordon and Drury know each other. One would think though that that means they will rebuild the 3rd line so probably chytil and Goat are gone.

I could see Chytil going straight for Lehkonen or in a package for Chytil. His time is pretty clearly up here.

I know hes still very young and we want him to succeed, but its year 5 for him and he hasnt gotten better. A playoff bound team with serious 5v5 issues cant wait around for him to figure it out, especially when there was no positive uptick in his play after the benching last month.

Maybe sell at Deadline and continue building a cup team like Buffalo. We need a stronger and younger center pieces in my opinion.
Yeah we need better centers, but this is one of those strange brained takes that reads like a mild seizure.

Long term it will benefit the Franchise even though it is less entertaining each night, but get knock out early in maybe the hardest division in NHL at the moment is bad timing to reach playoffs instead focus on top talent.
My point is wait until Crosby & Malkin retire the big guns and then build for a future cup. :)

Disagree on that last point

Is trading a late first, a second (when we have 2), and one of Kravtsov/Chytil really going to change the long term outlook of this team? How many picks do we have to make before were allowed to trade a few?

For those unfamiliar with Lehkonen, he reminds me a bit of a young Fedotenko. Bigger bodied 2-way forward. He probably hovers around 30 points most seasons but his game translates well to the playoffs because he doesn’t need to change the way he plays and the areas of the ice that he generally plays in are available still in the playoffs.

He’s a RFA at years end so the team would to be planning for a decent RFA deal, think maybe $2.75m long term as a rule of thumb. He’d be a really good addition to a line centered by Goodrow though long term.

Hertl makes zero sense unless the team is seriously considering walking away from Strome at years end.

Jarnkrok is one I have brought up before and he would be another really solid under the radar pickup. He’s another Swiss-army knife player who is super valuable to a team and coach throughout a season. Very similar ability to play any position up front like Goodrow. He won’t light the word on fire with stats but he’ll get his 30 points or so every year while providing solid 2-way play.

The team could probably sign him to a decent mid-term deal as well which would be a positive.

What I don’t want to see is major assets given up (and by this I even mean a 2nd or prospects like Barron and Pajuniemi) for a rental for this season only. If they target someone they like who they want to keep around beyond this year AND they can help during the playoff drive then these guys become available.

I honestly thought this was sarcasm
I`m not fan of Buffalo how they build or draft talents, but I wish we did not rush our rebuild with Panarin etc.
Because I was here when we lost the cup final vs La King years ago, and I always felt our previous GM rushed the rebuild unfortunately.
I admit I`ve much more knowledge about soccer and Ac Milan, but the draft process is really important to be succesful in the future in NHL.

I’d say let’s keep those pieces until the team can develop or add a legitimate center somewhere.

This is a nice thought but there's no C prospect in the org that fits this bill, and the likelihood of finding one in the late first of the upcoming draft that can help the team in the near future is miniscule.

They cant sit on all these future assets with their core players in their prime. We don't even know if Laf/Kakko/Miller will ever develop into anything more than solid players. I know some talk about having "2 Cup windows" but wasting the first window with bonafide superstar players, because we're afraid of trading draft picks and players like Kravtsov (who dont even want to be here), would be huge mistake

Just to shift the topics a bit, another young player that would be a great target for us is Adam Beckman from Minnesota. He’s scoring at a great rate in the AHL playing in a depth role, and he has a fantastic shot. He’s slotted on the wing for now, but he played a ton of center in juniors with Spokane and was the leading scorer in the WHL in his D+1 year.

Not sure exactly what what MIN would want, but I’d pay a fair amount considering he’s probably one of the more underrated prospects around the league.
How’s his motor? Is he aggressive?

Hope we’re looking at Lehkonen as a rental cause his QO will be fairly big and dwarf Blais’. Next year every dollar will count especially if we have to extend Strome. Im an advocate of getting someones like Radulov and either Namestnikov, Jarnkrok, or Larsson from ARI. I think costs will not be prohibitive yet give our team a chance to reinforce.

a couple of combos are possible
Krieds Mika Kakko
Pan Strome Laf
Namest Chytil Radulov
Goodrow Rooney Reaves

There nothing terribly wrong with Miller. He is about where you would expect him to be. Inconsistent young player.

I’m not actively shopping him but I am not redlining him for a possible deal. I’d put Kakko in the same boat.

Make me an offer.
Are we to assume teams without much young talent as the interested parties? Like Arizona, Seattle and Anaheim for example?

I could see the Rangers trading for Hertl and then setting up a competition with a Strome for the 2nd center contract.

That would be smart. Watching Hertl tonight, hes always looking to do exactly what the Rangers dont do: Shoot the damn puck

The team lacks at least one long term center and winger, if not two long term centers.

It can’t afford to part with young assets for rentals till that issue is resolved.

It’s not minuscule, it just takes commitment to not mortgaging the future for the present.

We can trade those assets as long as it’s for more future assets to fill long term center and wing.

Hertl is 10x better than Strome as a Center. Hertl makes Strome a RW. Or it makes Strome the 3C if you get someone like Reilly Smith on the cheap
