I never thought the day would come where I would be begging for the coach to change the lines.

How can it be that a coach either changes them every period or 1 every 30 games? Haha

EDIT: Also, Kakko is progressing as a player. It's slow. Painfully slow, but he is producing better year-over-year. Laf isn't, but has also gotten less ice time with top players vs last year, so there is a chance for him too.

Laf-Z-Kreider
Panarin-Strome-Kakko

The distinction I am trying to make is, I just don't like the "blacklist" thinking. If he had a clean sheet, he would probably make 9m as a UFA for 7 years. Now he will at the most make like 1m for 1 year. It is not like his history is disregarded and doesn't cost him.
You can't equate this with a blacklist scenario and then say "if he had a clean sheet..." He doesn't. And he doesn't because of his own actions. He's a bad guy at best and a toxic at worst.

Blacklisting is what happened to Colin Kaepernick. Kane is not even close to being analogous.

And I'm sorry, but I won't weep for him going from making millions to making a million. Especially when his past actions are 100% on him.

I still think a G & Chytil for Yama & Skinner makes a ton of sense for both teams, not sure who adds if at all. Gives Edm a 3c/rw that's signed for less than what Yama might get as an RFA. Also give them a potential starter while giving NYR get a better RW/3C option and a backup until one of the kids like Garand are ready. Also if Skinner's not ready for a BU position this season we still have Kinkaid to be a place holder until next season

I can't even express how awful hockey Twitter is. Everything is "OMG how could they choose Hajek over Nils?!?! What a joke!" Even from the f***ing notable bloggers. Do people honestly not understand the concept of sending down the young prospect to get minutes and develop while leaving the mediocre turd to serve as a scratch and occasional depth? As awful as this place can be, it's a million times better than Twitter.

The game to game mood swings and "I know better" attitude of NYR Twitter sucks. HF is far better for talking Rangers

Some major differences here. MacTavish had killed a woman drunk driving—had gone to prison and served his time. He made a big mistake—not a series of mistakes and was not known as a bad actor. If he were a bad actor the Oilers wouldn’t have put up with him. He wasn’t a star—he was a jack of all trades 3rd/4th liner. He’d also won multiple Cups.

Kane is a star at least when he wants to be. He wasn’t liked in Winnipeg or Buffalo or San Jose. He’s not a team guy. He’s basically a primadonna and any team that’s serious about him is going to pay a lot in cap hit. He’s never won anything.

There are major differences between MacTavish and Kane, but Kane is still someone that Sather would've pursued; someone with an issue (or issues) that not every team would go after. Not saying he should've, just saying he would have.

Rangers 3rd line & 3rd D Pair are the big problems they need to solve. Hopefully Schneider can provide some defense and grit to stabilize Nemeth, but thats a lot to put on a 20 year old. I know what Drury was trying to do with Nemeth, but hes been an absolute disaster. Schneider+jones/Nils should be paired out of TC next year, but we need to add a legitimate veteran defenseman at the deadline.

As for the 3rd line, Chytil's ineffectiveness is killing the teams depth. He is a black hole offensively because he refuses to do anything but skate into the zone and veer off into the boards so opposing defenders take the puck from him. Extremely easy to play against. They need to find 1-2 forwards to put on the 3rd line to replace Chytil/Gauthier because they do absolutely nothing, hopefully one being Barron.

I also think we need to collectively take a deep breath with where the team is. They are 4-3 since the covid break, and still 2nd in the Metro, despite the fact that they are being ravaged by covid on a long West Coast swing.

I don't understand how Tinordi who was a seventh d man in Boston, comes to NY, with our large pool of NYR drafted, home grown back end talent, is given the nod over kids like Tarmo Reunanen and Zach Jones. I'd especially like to see Tarmo given a chance, the kid has been with this organization a while now, continues to play good hockey year in year out, and is in general, a better hockey player than Tinordi. I'm confused as to why Tinordi was on Drury's radar in the first place. As far as Nameth goes, it was my understanding he was brought in to help Lundkvist's transition to the NHL but neither guy makes much sense to me.
Oh, it's because Gallant isn't good at this.

Koskinen at 50 off is better than Skinner imo

Yamamoto for Chytil does make sense

Vince speculating that Miller could be moved with an eye toward his next contract. Thats a tough one because his upside is enormous, but he does make some egregious turnovers and positional mistakes, which is not ideal for a top 4 D on a contending team. i go back and forth on him, but theres no doubt KAM could be the centerpiece to bring in a young, impactful forward with some term. Would also open up a spot on D for one of Nils/Jones to play with Trouba and Schneider longer term. Something to watch out for.

Hmm, how would you guys feel about Miller for Podkolzin?

If it’s for a deal for a young center then I think you have to consider it.

Only if a parallel move for a center is made. Even then, Vancouver should be adding.
I think it's a trade that both a lot of NYR & VAN fans will oppose, so it's probably close to fair value. Podkolzin would help us greatly, he is fast, physical & plays the total opposite of a perimeter game. Crashes straight to the net and goes to all the dirty areas

The idea of moving Miller scares me, I think he's got an all star level ceiling.

If you move him, you better make sure you're right on the guy who's coming back.
I'd only move KAM in a package for a Lundell type. i.e. Great young Center on an ELC

I've seen the highs KAM brings... IMO his potential is shutting down the opposing team big guns. Pivotal in a playoff series. When he's 'on' it looks like he's playing with his food. I'm pretty confident he gets there in his prime, which is still some years away

Now Justin Richards has been called up to the Taxi Squad

I can’t imagine Miller’s next contract being huge, trading him because you’re worried about his next contract would be silly.

Only way I’d move him is for a center prospect of similar caliber or an upgrade on LD like Chychurn

I LOVE Pod's game. However I don't think he has near the upside of Miller, regardless of what value Van fans put on him...
Like others have said, I would really only be comfortable bringing back a Lundell type young center if it's close to a one for one straight up. He's a huge asset and a young #2 or better Center is our huge need.

I think Pod checks every single box that we lack as a team, he is the absolute ideal player for us to target. He is one of the most assertive rookies you’ll ever see, he plays with a lot of pace and doesn’t wait for the play to come to him. Isn’t afraid to shoot the puck, doesn’t mindlessly cycle along the boards. He plays every shift with urgency. He is the anti-Kakko/Laf and he might even rub off on them a bit
