He seemed to be improving but definitely hope we get to see Schneider actually play some games and not just sit in the press box. It's obvious the rangers coaches or front office or both or very concerned with size on the back end. I'm not sure I see Nils or Jones hanging around for too long.

cant keep both is the thing I think they’re seeing. Jones is far better than Lundkvist but teams scouting us are going to have their preference. I’d move Lundkvist if possible I think it makes the most sense long term if you want some trio of Fox Trouba Schneider for years to come

I thought Nil was looking better and better as the season went on.

He was definitely getting more comfortable at the NHL level. I just wonder if the coaching staff likes Jones game better at this point and want to roll with him. Let Nils get 1D minutes in Hartford and maybe rebuild some of his confidence.

I do want to see Schneider play. Ironically he was compared to Trouba.

The one thing I am happy about is that we could not remain stagnant with the pairings as is. They needed to make a change and they did.

Re Kane

You can say “it doesn’t matter” for the ice stuff bc I’m sure guys don’t really care about his divorce proceeding and financial issues. But they’ll absolutely care that he’s been an asshole everywhere he’s played and was essentially kicked out by fellow teammates In SJ and WPG.

Players will ignore what they can ignore. Off the ice stuff. You disrupt the locker room and constantly cause issues and make them deal with it in their face and they absolutely care.

For sure, at the same time, plenty of teams out there has something that isn’t working at all and may have interest on gambling on something else.

Again, I don’t want Kane here, never been a fan of him.

But just to be fair — if — we as a team really had an issue and a players with Kane’s issues was available made sense, I wouldn’t be against that player. So thought I add my 2 cents on the topic, even if I don’t have any stakes in this game.

One of Nils/Jones will not be here long term, we all know that. We also know the Rangers see Schneider as a future core piece.

Nothing that happened today should be surprising at all considering the 3rd pair has been a disaster most of the season, and Lundkvist wont get worse playing in the AHL

Alex will I would think be moved in the summer. Halak will be 37 next year. Neither one is more than a one year solution to the backup goalie issue.
I really don’t mind being in a new vet backup every year or two. I’d have the young goalies get all the reps possible with Hartford and the echl team. And only have them come up when they can get a bit of run. That’s how I’d handle it, just my opinion.

Jones looks more ready than Lundkvist in my opinion. Good move to keep Jones and recall Schneider and send down Lundkvist and Reunanen

well cap wise in a few years it may make sense to trade Trouba so they both could be here

the kids need to just play where there are told for their entry level deals on not bail like Kravtsov

They've been bad the past two years once the playoff/bubble teams buckle down on defense towards the end of the season. I don't see why it would change now. This team has an ugly problem of just standing around hoping Panarin can thread a pass through multiple players and that gets harder to do as the season progresses and the teams start to play better defense. That's the only form of offense our top two lines have and unfortunately there is only one Panarin. So one line is playing Panarin hockey with no Panarin. Luckily, we've gotten enough points to at least see what these two duos can do in the playoffs. It will be a good assessment period for the front office.

Oh I agree. I have said before, I am not sure how good Panarin and Strome are for this team. The PP is better with Z on the left circle, but the refuse to move Panarin. The top 2 lines play more direct without him in the lineup, but once he is back suddenly it is get it to Panarin and hope he makes something out of nothing. The team absolutely has a "defer to Panarin" mentality and he is too easy to stop by himself in tight checking games.

I will say, for as bad as we were against LA, Z looked like he was going straight ahead. He has been playing better and that is a good thing.

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider

If the issue was Jones and Lundkvist playing together, Schneider has more size and is viewed as a better defender.
Turk had Schneider at the World's .....so he is somewhat familiar with him . That also should help Schneider in his call up for when Turk returns behind the bench . I hope he is here to stay .

familiarity def cant hurt. do think he'll get every opportunity to show he belongs. obviously 3rd pair has been an issue all season...looks like we're evaluating all in house options and seeing if we have answers. also may be using these opportunities to evaluate which pieces we're willing to part with in any deadline deals. will be good to see him get an opportunity, hard to imagine hes ready for a full time role already but would be awesome if he is.

I don’t get all the love for Jones, feel like Nils is the much better player.
They are both neck and neck IMO. Jones is ahead of Nils in terms of offense, Nils ahead in front of in defense. Really wish there was a way to have both in the lineup. Sitting either makes no sense so I'm not against Nils going to HFD for a couple weeks to get 20+ minutes.

The Rangers are 23-10-4 which has more than exceeded my expectations so I’m not going to say this goalie or that forward or d-man has been a disaster. There certainly been games where someone’s miscue(s) have cost us points in the standings but every team is going to lose now and again.

Nils should become a very good player but he’s had his struggles. We should expect that to happen with most young D. First year here and whatever happens the rest of the year he can take it home this summer and work on things that need more work. I’d like to see a somewhat stockier and stronger version next year. Same with Jones.

I have no idea what people are watching if they think Nils has been good. He hasn't, he needs seasoning, needs man strength should have been in the AHL to start the year. If we are gonna do whats right here its that Hajek and Schneider are the 3rd pair.....we're likely getting Nemeth and Schneider though

For a rookie NHL defenseman, he has been fine. There is going to be growing pains with most rookie defensemen unless your name is Adam Fox.

I thought Lundkvist had been better recently. Not exactly good, but better. Passable, if unremarkable. I certainly do think the AHL can be helpful for him. He needs to act more quickly and decisively. Figure out how to get his shot on the cage in North America. I'm a bit disappointed he wasn't as polished and ready for prime time as I hoped. I thought he'd need 10-15 games before really taking off. Wasn't the case.

Excited for Schneider. He has been very good in Hartford, and I think he's the type of guy who will only play better as the level of competition increases.

The more I think about it, the more i'm guessing Drury is trying to get a good look at the value of these assets. Who to keep, who to move and who is worth what. Doesn't hurt to showcase them either. Obviously one or more of these kids are gonna be gone by the TDL.

Hearing Edm, Tampa and Carolina looking at Kane.....adding him to Tampa would be too much to handle.
