No, 'cause if you're entire game goes to **** when you're not scoring, you're not that good. granted, he's excellent this season, good all things considered. He's as "top-six" as they get, can be a first liner... when he' on.
The opposite of Kreider.

The thing is, what is the return on Fast? a 2nd? We're not getting a haul for Fast. He is what he is. At this point, it's better to keep him here. Hopefully he can slot correctly into the lineup again and be the team's #9-#11 best forward for next season.

If we're out of it come next deadline and we can get something for him, if we have no aspirations to re-sign, then that works. He's better here to start next season than we are to have to replace him and get basically the same thing in return at the deadline.

Fast to me is the kind of relatively low cost player who is worth more to the Rangers than what he’s likely bring back in a trade.

I was going to say he is Hagelin without the ++speed and the pedigree as a cup champ. He's a vey good PK and does a lot of things correct. Hags returned a 3rd. Would probably be the same for Fast.

I want to know if Hajek is playing tonight and who will sit if Hajek plays.

I am keeping Fast. He wears an ‘A’ for good reason. He is a low maintenance, hard-working 9th forward. Extremely valuable in many situations - not to mention a continuity of leadership. And before the video game-trading crowd chirps in that he’s 28, I’ll stop you right here. I’m keeping Jesper Fast.

Kreider has been a top 75-90 forward for 4 years. I'd call him a first-liner all day, but some people go with the notion that teams generally have two "1st liners," two "top-6 forwards," and two "2nd liners." Often, that means only 5 of those 6, and a "middle-6 forward" is on the 2nd line.

It's arguing minutiae, but people that think CK is merely a "top 6 forward" aren't completely bonkers. I just disagree with them.

I really do almost think that they we forget that Mika wasn’t a dark horse to become this type of player.

He was drafted sixth overall in 2011 and was a steady riser in that draft class. We often talk about higher end talent coming from the top 10 and that’s what Mika’s ceiling was.

He stayed at a certain plateau in Ottawa and was traded to us for another former top 10 pick in Brassard. But he was also only 23 when we got him.

By comparison, Adam Graves was 23 when we signed him and Lemieux will be 23 this month. Tony Amonte was 23 when we traded him. Nedved was on the cusp of 23 when we acquired him the first time, and Doug Weight was on the cusp when sent him to Edmonton.

In other words, even though it feels like Zibanejad’s been in the league forever, he is still a fairly young player and we acquired him when he was even younger.

I see where you’re going with this...

A or C - Jeff had no hesitation moving Ryan Mc - it`s based on age so barely one year into a rebuild. However Fast has so low cap. hit so it`s not crucial to get Fast moved at all. Just a suggestion - I think I would move Nam, Shattenkirk, and Staal before him if we somehow can remove his NMC on Staal - if he wants a new challenge until his contract run out in 2020-21 season.

Guys you don’t pay Jesper Fast more than you’re already paying him. He’s going to price himself out of usefulness. He’s not as good as hagelin he’s already breaking down. No friggen way is he a keeper

The problem is he is going to want too much money for what he brings. He's a fine player but signing all these depth players to 2-3M/year deals really hurts you with getting top line talent. The Islanders L4 for example makes 9.5M. It's a good 4th line but it's a 4th line. You can fill out an adequate 4th line for half that and then have an extra 5M to spend on a good FA or keeping your top players.

If he wants to re-sign for 1.8M again, fine, but I really doubt that he wouldn't be looking for a rather significant payraise to the 3M range and I don't think it's out of the question he gets it given the recent contracts for guys like Roussel/Beagle/Cizikas/Clutterbuck/Cogliano/Strome/Kruger/Komarov and the like.

So its the Hagelin story all over again... that contract didnt work out that well for Carl .... well he won two cups, but is on his 4th team...

The Rangers have A TON of contract slots open. They have 43/50 slots taken this year with the following as UFA's:
Brickley
O'Gara
Gilmour
Tokarski

Let's assume they re-sign 1/4 of those guys, so they are down to 40 contracts.

RFA's:
Lemieux
Buchnevich
DeAngelo
Pionk
Claesson
Lettieri
Bigras
Bergman
Nell
Halverson

Let's assume 8/10 of these guys are kept or stick around. So that means they are at 38 contracts.

Who do they need to sign?
Kravtsov
Rykov
Shestyorkin
Keane
Gross or does he stay in the OHL?
Virta?
Reunanen?

That's 6-7 players, am I missing anyone? If not, that,s worst case, 45 contracts. I would assume they dip their toes in the college UFA market heavily
