Considering the Rangers targeted Keller in 2016, Pettersson in 2017, and also drafted Chytil, Kravtsov, Miller and Lundkvist, I would be shocked if they didn’t go high end skill with potential in the upcoming draft. Gorton has been acquiring the safe role players in most of his trades, using the draft to go big. I see them continuing the same approach.
They're targeting modern NHL players.

I don't know who will sit but what happens with Chytil and Howden coming back?

Kreider Zibanejad Vesey
Lemieux Andersson Buch
Names Strome Fast
Boo/Brick Howden Chytil

Staal ADA
Skjei Smith/Shattenkirk
Hajek Pionk/Smith

Interested to see how Gorton addresses the pro level forward depth this off-season. After the sell offs of last two seasons, our NHL/AHL depth is thin. AHL has a handful of kids that could push for a 4th line role next season: Gettinger, Fogarty, Fontaine, Lettieri. Maybe Meskanen. After Kravtsov, there really isn't anyone who might push for a top 9 spot that isn't already in the NHL in the next season or two. Virta? Pujaniemi? And any forwards drafted in 2019 are likely to remain Amateurs or in Europe until 2020 at least.

I would expect Gorton to be aggressive with UDFA market -- both College and Europe. And we might see some minor trades at the draft, dealing away prospects that don't have futures with org for other castaways from other orgs. But I feel like we need to add 3-5 forwards to AHL and ECHL with some offensive skill that could potentially fill in a top 9 NHL role within this 1-2 year window. (aside from HWP coaching overhaul).

And WE MUST start developing kids in Hartford again. It's unacceptable for a rebuilding team.

I think the need for a great farm system is more imperative when you have a team full of vets that you eventually want to replace internally.

Our NHL team for the next few seasons Is already going to be composed of a bunch of kids and young players.

Anyone else find it amusing perennially sucking Florida (1 playoff appearance in 7 years!) with ELiTe YoUnG tAlEnTs like Ekblad, Barkov, Trochek, Hubardeau, and a free 1st liner out of nowhere from RuSSiA in Dadonov is hoping and praying to fix its problems in UFA with Panarin and Bobrovsky?

I find it amusing.

They have no goaltending. They have allowed the 28th most goals per gsme. They are 11th in GF per game.

What's worse is they give up the 10th least amount of shots per game.

I’ve seen a few future lineups where Kravtsov is penciled in on the top line for 2019-20. IMHO this is premature and Quinn will try to ease him into the lineup the same way Chytil and Andersson have been on the depth lines throughout this season.

Another thing that bothers me is that Chytil now looked at as a second line forward long term. This is something that we see time and time again when prospects transition from lower leagues to the NHL. To me what he’s done as a teenager in the NHL is fantastic and an indicator that he’ll be a shoe in top line forward. The only way he’ll be on the seafood line is if he and Zibanejad become 1A and 1B centers for the Rangers or similarly the team has a crazy quality depth on a wing.

Missed this earlier, but we loaned Tokarski to Charlotte in exchange for? RD Josh Wesley, who is playing tonight. 22, pending RFA with Carolina, son of Glen Wesley. Because of this and Hajek up, and the acquisitions of RDs Bergman and Raddysh, Gilmour is back on LD.

Chytil might end up as a 50 point 2. liner. He is also just 19 years old.
Neither Zinbadejad, Kreider or Zuccarello looked like 1. liners in the NHL when they where 19 either.
It is only some of the superstars that already hitting their prime at age 20-22, most other (included some of the best players) often don't hit their prime until around 25, and some even when they close in on 30.

IMHO 50 point second liner is a very conservative expectation.

Ups, I missread the post i quoted. But yeah, personaly I believe he will be a high end offensive player.
Ment to say that even if he and Lias is playing in the NHL it's not nessecary that how they look now will reflect what they are in 5 years. Both for the postives of Chytil and the negatives of Lias.
I know its no-fun, but we should not neither get to hyped or negative on how they perform in the NHL at their age. I'm just happy that I can watch our promising future and its not hidden away in some european/college/canadian junior league I can't watch.

Trouba in the off-season? Is he a #1-2? or more 3-4? I honestly can't get a good read on him

PS: If Erik Karlsson plays for an eastern conference team in 2019-20, San Jose loses their 2021 1st round pick to Ottawa

Edit: I mixed up the seasons. It's 2018-19

I still think Florida's attendance would keep anyone from signing there imo. I think we have a good shot at Panarin, especially with all the KHL guys coming over soon. I dont think we have a future superstar in our prospects,so spend the money on one now if you can imo.

Panarin doesn’t like talking to the media, so maybe Florida is perfect for him

Yeah, I'm not thinking we get EK65.

But, it is possible to get both cap-wise with a little maneuvering of Names/Strome/Shattenkirk/Smith.

- No Income Tax
- Former Teammate in Dadonov
- Big City
- Likely getting Bob
- No Media as GK pointed out.

They're pretty much the favorite.
