1 more year of accumulating assets thru trades of Names.Vesey,Shatt,Fast maybe Kreider(at the draft) or Zib , then open the wallet. New CBA rules could be important on how to move forward. Also can we put Quinn on IR so we can lose some games.

Writers are in the business of generating views. Agents are in the business of inflating their clients' values. The rangers have been used as vehicle for these ends for decades. The rumors used to have a factual basis or even a plausibility, but for a while now we have been linked to players when we lacked cap space or even a hint of interest. Look at these rumors with an ounce of skepticism and they crumble into mere hope and speculation by the writers that we cause a frenzy like in the 90s.

I don't see the Rangers being in on Karlsson and they might give him, and Panarin's camp, a call but I think the chances of either, particularly Karlsson, becoming a Ranger as really remote. Unless they find a taker for Old Man Staal®, I don't see them adding another 30ish vet on D.

I think the Rangers will stay the course this summer unless a trade materializes they're just too good to pass up. Their assets haven't quite matured to the point that they could cash them in at high enough value, IMO.

Make a strong play to get two picks in the top ten of the draft. That's the move to go hard on.

Couldn't agree more. Package the Jets first round pick with one of our seconds ( either the Rangers or one aquired ) even add a third and jump back up into or around the top 10. Seems like a lot but I believe this is why JG aquired all of these picks. We all agree the top 10 is stronger so help the re-build draft 2 top kids to add to the mix.

Would be awesome if we could walk away with a center and the D-kid. Or better yet imagine if we some how won the Lottery or came in second place--now we're talking. Come on Gary weight those ping pong balls down for the Rangers

During Henrik's final contractual year, is there a 2020-21 scenario in which Georgiev gets more games in the A? (conceivably with Shestyorkin in the NHL). And of course what is the Expansion Draft ramification?

19-20: Henrik/Georgiev, Shestyorkin in the A
20-21: Henrik/Shestorykin, Georgiev getting time in the A
21-22: Shestyorkin/Georgiev

Obviously impossible to project out that far, and nearly just as likely Henrik is still hungry for a 2-year deal beyond 20-21.

If nothing else, it takes two to tango, and I have a hard time not seeing Erik staying in San Jose.

JT stuff was really just generated on here. There was no way that was happening.

Like @Trxjw said, I think a lot of the connections to high profile players has to do with their history more than what they're actually thinking. I'm sure they'll check in on Panarin and EK (if he makes it to UFA), but once the bidding war starts, that will likely be the end of it.

I think people just throw us in there as a habit. Some of this stuff has obviously been totally false over the year.

Its like it can't even hurt us, we are mentioned in connection with anyone. It could be touchy in other organizations, wait you want to sign a vet center, am not in your future? Can't imagine players in NY thinking that way.

Not crazy about Keane’s year but I really like him. Happy he’s in the fold. I like the idea of having some righties down in Hartford next year between him raddysh and maybe bergmann stays. Should help solidify the blue line.

They gotta get rid of Gilmour Bigras and OGara they’re terrible

I like Pierre LeBrun but he doesn't know what is talking about. He had the Wayne Simmonds infatuation before the trade deadline. Simmonds sucks and everyone except Pierre knows it.

Erik Karlsson is a broken down 29 year old defenseman. He can still play at a high level at times but his best days are behind him. Gorton didn't want to give a 27 year old Hayes a 6-7 year deal but he is giving a 29 year old Karlsson a 7 year contract. There is always something wrong with Karlsson physically.

It's bad enough the Rangers have so many bad money on D right now. Good luck getting out of those contracts so easily. Let's add an even bigger albatross on our cap.

The Rangers need to keep adding young players to the organization. They don't have enough quality young players. Gorton has already said they want more picks for the 2020 draft.

It's the same **** as last year. The Rangers will be aggressive in the free market and in trades. They will re-sign Nash and Grabner. They will pursue a trade for Karlsson. They take the assets they acquired at the deadline and ship them to Ottawa for Lundqvist's buddy Karlsson to keep Hank happy.

Does anyone really think Gorton gives a rats **** about keeping a 37 year old Lundqvist happy? No.

Happy Birthday Hank.

LeBrun keeps bringing up Karlsson being close to Hank as a reason to pursue him.

See Zuccarello.

I'm also on the "pass on EK65" train

He's playing hurt now.

I saw him get beat clean by Marchand and while that tends to happen to the best of them, the way he tried to turn and went down leads me to believe that he's got a pretty banged up knee.

Just another issue in what is becoming a quickly building list of ailments over the last 3 years.

As he gets older, it's going to get worse

As soon as Gorton does something that goes against the whole "rebuilding" concept... that's when I'll get worried that he's going to go after high priced UFAs

Until that time, I see a GM building assets, ridding this team of large and extensive contracts and using the draft to redefine the NYR
How many more assets do we need?

Hypothetically, if they sign Panarin, as long as they keep their kids and do not trade away draft picks, I'd have no problem with it. My main concern is what is Panarin like in year 5,6,7 if he gets that 7 year deal. Maybe plays out similar to Gaborik > Brassard > Zibanejad. It all works out in the end :)

Ignorant question - Why is Gilmour even a defenseman? Tiny guy, with that speed - does he have any shot on the wing? Like what are we talking here?

Paying big dollars for Karlsson’s 30’s would be one of the most massive blunders this organization ever made, and that’s saying something. He is a Ferrari with a hundred thousand miles on it.

Others have said it, but some people just can’t seem to grasp the Rangers are in it for the long haul and not looking for any quick fixes. It’s refreshing to a degree given the franchise’s past.

While patience is required, how long are we supposed to be patient as fans exactly? Right now it’s intriguing to see young guys come in and out of the lineup but that has a finite shelf life. I don’t know the answer to the “how long” question. But it’d be nice to see some of these young players start to take baby steps towards being impactful nhl players at some point soon - say, the next 1-2 years. If not, changes to the scouting department must be made because the Rangers’ organizational direction is doomed if you can’t procure the players with all the incoming assets

Enough assets to have drafted our own elite prospect. Because that has yet to happen, and until it does we won't be a true contender.

Gilmour and Bigras are fine. Hartford could use a goalie and a coach/system.

The talk is always, 'we need elite players' to win.

Panarin is elite. Why wouldn't we attempt to sign him? There's no top LW in the system.

It cost a 2nd to move up 4 spots if I remember right last year and that was in the mid 20s (#26 and #48). Guess it depends where that Jets #1 is. If its in the high teens it's possible, but it would likely cost more, like it they had Tampas #1.

You guys can say it’s not happening and it probably isn’t. But if for some reason both karlsson and panarin will sign on for 4-5 yr deals at 10m per. I would do it, bc I think it’s recipe to turn the next 4-5 into a window while still building the organization into a pipeline ala Winnipeg and Tampa. The trick nowerdays is to not trade away 1sts and to move guys before they come up for free agency instead of holding on to them as self-rentals (Columbus is in a different position, they need and want immediate success to build on).
But if somehow those Guys bc of how the cap is rising and such are down with mid-term level deals thinking they will make more on short term contracts as the cap rises, I think it means they gun for some RFAs in trade and try to win in a weak league while letting these prospects and the upcoming ‘19 and ‘20 prospects become the next year.
If either of them want 7-8 years and 10+
I stay away
(So essentially I’m staying away unless it breaks just right)
