They're going to whiff on both.
Well I don't think EK will be available to whiff on but the point still stands.
They expected the same thing last summer. Consider me skeptical.

Karlsson is a generational defenseman. I'd gun for him and not even think twice if its between him and any other UFA. He has quality and fills a huge need.
Is this actually the case? I don't remember that being the case outside of the supposed interest in Kovalchuk which seemed to be more on his end. They expected the same thing last summer. Consider me skeptical.

People were also talking about Taveras iirc, might have been Friedman on his podcastIs this actually the case? I don't remember that being the case outside of the supposed interest in Kovalchuk which seemed to be more on his end.

I would’ve liked JVR (same with TVR) on the Rangers just because he’s from my town, but I do think it was good they didn’t sign himMcKenzie also said that he expected them to be in on EK via trade.
Then there was the typical JVR to NYR nonsense.
Strangest condition I’ve ever seenPS: If Erik Karlsson plays for an eastern conference team in 2019-20, San Jose loses their 2021 1st round pick to Ottawa
Here's what Brooks said about it on April 4. Not saying you are wrong, but this is the most concrete thing I have found.People were also talking about Taveras iirc, might have been Friedman on his podcast
I'm all for this.
The UFA classes after this offseason are absolute crap outside of Hall and Skinner. You want an elite young-ish UFA, go get them this summer.
Trouba in the off-season? Is he a #1-2? or more 3-4? I honestly can't get a good read on him
Yea you might be right with Jt but i also remeber all the talk we would resign the guys we traded at the deadline, Kovalchuk, and Jvr. All of which didnt happen. Here's what Brooks said about it on April 4. Not saying you are wrong, but this is the most concrete thing I have found.
"Signing with the Rangers is the last thing anyone would expect from Tavares, who might have played his final home game as an Islander in Thursday’s 2-1 victory over the Blueshirts in Brooklyn.
And that includes the Rangers. There is no plan in place to seduce the Islanders’ splendid 27-year-old captain into becoming the Blueshirts’ 28-year-old captain (birthday during training camp) anymore than there was ever a plan to entice Zach Parise into switching sides when the then-Devils captain became available in 2012."
But Jim Dolan, Glen Sather and Jeff Gorton sure would listen if Tavares invited them to the party, sure would be willing to adjust their rebuild to accommodate this stud, the likes of whom the Rangers haven’t had since Jaromir Jagr in 2005-06. Sure would be willing to send a different type of letter to the season-ticket holders."

That only makes sense if the team can trade Shattenkirk
No its doesn't. You dont pass up Karlsson (if you can get him) because of Shattenkirk. You get Karlsson and figure out what to do with Shattenkirk later. The Rangers don't have prohibitive cap problems where this would be an issueThat only makes sense if the team can trade Shattenkirk
Mats Zuccarello, Dallas Stars
Zuccarello’s debut with the Stars was short-lived, suffering a broken arm in his first game. Still, the 32-year-old winger made a positive first impression, scoring a goal and collecting an assist. The Stars will be parting ways with free-agent Jason Spezza this summer and could attempt to keep Zuccarello in the fold if he plays well following his return in late-March. Given the absence of a state income tax in Texas, perhaps a two-year contract with the same annual average value ($4.5 million) as his current deal might be tempting.
this will make many here lose their minds
the rebuild will be over and the team will be average again for a long time. blah blah blah.
until they start winning then it will be all good.
