Gourde would be an excellent acquisition, I just don't see why Seattle would trade him right now. If he is available we should be all over him.
He's not. I asked them on their board--hypothetically--what it would cost to get Gourde at 50% off. The general consensus was that it would never happen (particularly the retention), but in the interest of hypotheticals, they gave the following responses:
"Multiple 1st rounds picks + A prospect"
"2022 1st + Lundkvist + Cuylle + 2024 1st"
"For me, for an un-retained Gourde, I would honestly ask for ONE of Kakko or Lundkvist. Then if you are asking for 50% retention for 3.5 years, I would think at least another mid round first in value should be added, but since your first is quite possibly going to be in the bottom quarter of the draft, I think another young asset or multiple picks would be required. Possibly Chytil OR Jones and a 2nd."
Frankly, I thought that last one was even a bit cheap on the cost of retention. A couple million in retention for ONE season has cost as much as a 1st rounder before. For three seasons? No way that brings back just an additional 1st.
Incidentally, they have a really nice group of folks over there.
