I have to say I've been wanting Gallant since he became available but i can not figure out why in a game where we were offensively deficiency that his answer was to use Gauthier more, especially with the goalie out. There was zero chance he was gonna add anything to our offense, i would have accepted nearly anyone outside of Gauthier and Chytil, Rooney even would have been a better pick. If im a betting man id say McKegg gets in for Lafreniere next game

Sometimes you have guys out there who are playing well or out there for a specific reason. Gauthier, with his size and strength can retrieve pucks and create havoc in front. I wasn't that surprised honestly, he was good last night and has been good at creating chances for a while now

For this season, Rangers really need to upgrade 2RW and 3RW. Strome/Panarin need North/South player like Hunt but with more talent (if available, someone like R. Smith).

On the third line Gauthier should come off. He just can't produce. Either acquire a 3C and shift Chytil to the RW or find a rental 3RW.

Hunt and Gauthier can be the spare forwards as the 4th line has continued to be effective. Would give the team the depth they need for the playoffs and shouldn't break the bank either.
I wonder if Chytil would be a good replacement for Hunt on the Panarin line. Probably not the time to change Chytil’s responsibilities, but just for argument’s sake. Maybe down-the-line.

I'd try this for a few games

Kreider - Mika - Gauthier
Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Laf - Chytil - Kakko
Reaves - Rooney - Hunt
I think this is a good array but I would want the third line to get some top-six kind of matchups/usage. I do like the idea of Kakko being the line driver and distributor. I think that’s his long-term role.

The Rangers have the 7th best PP in the league, that hasn't been the source of the lower scoring.

They looooove him in Terry land and he’s under team control. He’s not going anywhere. I think Hertl is a good deadline target for us.
Hertl for us would be a rental, which is fine, but I think SJ will want too much. Pricing him as a trade-with-the-intention-to-re-sign.
Unless Hertl makes it clear that he fully intends to go FA, in which case his price becomes uniform of all suitors.

There are only 3 teams in California :sarcasm:
LOL....true enough . 46 years removed from my last Geography and or English Grammar class.....sorry Miss Hayes ! I honestly would not want to play in California either if I was a hockey player although the wife's nephew did and has a cup ring to show for it .....it might be nice on the off days....but the travel alone would be enough to be discouraging .

If I could pick an NHL team solely based on location to live, it would be Kraken, Predators, Lightning or Canucks.

Hes an offensive black hole, everything dies on his stick

Gauthier has always made sense to play next to Strome and Panarin. He can retrieve pucks and drive to the net, keep it simple. I'd try that for sure.

I was actually wondering myself if he was going to be tried there while he was playing well. Specifically after the Boston game when he was using his size and speed all over the ice.
I figured Gallant might try it. He’s big and fast and will get in deep quit and just go to the net while strome and panarin pass to each other.
Maybe they feel defensively, those 3 would be too much of a liability??
I don’t know, I’d give it a shot while Kreids has hit a scoring drought, Zibby and chytils line both seem to need a shake up. There’s some good play, just lacking the production
If Hunt can find some success with those 2, I don’t see why Gauthier can’t, even if it’s only for a 3-5 game run to shake it up and give the lines a different look.
Now would also be the time to shift Chytil to wing if there was ever a time to try it out while chemistry/scoring is a bit cold. He’s also been playing well, but can’t seem to consistently finish.
With shesty still out, and everything kind of stagnant on the offensive side, this is where I’d move guys around before a trade is made.
I also wish Barron would get a few games at some point during this year as well.

Because Gauthier was playing better than a lot of other forwards, including Kakko? You just despise him so much that you not only cannot think with any fair perception or reason on this, but you are going as far to say as you are now questioning your faith in Gallant who has the team at 18-6-3 on December 13th. And then take it a step further by thinking he’ll scratch Lafreniere for…Mckegg…

A bit dramatic, no?

I think your post is dramatic, i dont like him as an offensive player, i have no knowledge of what he's like as a person or anything else. He's just not offensively gifted, he skates well, he's got size, but thats it. His offensive IQ is low and he never shoots. Thats my problem with him out there at the end. Stop trying to make it like i just don't like the guy, i dont know him at all and have no opinion of him outside of if i wanted to tie the game, he'd be bottom 2 of the forwards to put on the ice.

Does anyone here despise any professional athlete? Most people don’t care enough about a sport to expend that kind of emotional energy. Why do you always go here?

Reilly Smith is such the obvious move that I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. He's a RW on an expiring contract who is already familiar with GG's system (in which he played his best hockey) and he should be available for a song because Vegas is cap f***ed when Eichel comes off IR. Drury needs to get off his duff, get Smith over here, and roll with something like:

Laf-Zib-Smith
Bread-Strome-Gaut/Goodrow
Kreider-Chytil-Kakko
4th line

Roll the top three lines and ride whichever line gets hot during the game.

he’s been their best overall fwd.
They are far out of the race, I Expect the Ducks to also cool off a bit.
They aren’t going to move Smith unless the positively have to for cap reasons. Even then, he’s been so important to them on the ice and in the room, if they can self rent him some how that the route they probably go.
He’s going to most likely have a greater impact on their line up then anything he’ll return in trade.
whatever player/players Drury most likely brings in are going to come from teams that are dumpster fires, or that have completely blown the first quarter.
Van, MTL, Seattle etc

donskoi, Jarnkrok, Lehkonen, Toffoli, Boyd in ARI, etc. those types

I don’t think it is dramatic one bit. You regurgitate the same negativity around Gauthier constantly. You did it just the other day in his thread. You came into that with negativity claiming the “shine has worn off” even though multiple people disagreed with you for a variety of reasons. Almost every post you have with Gauthier in it is negative. In fact every single one is.

Also, you know, you can “despise” a player for the player he is on the ice and it can have nothing to do with how he is as a person off the ice. Again, dramatic. Having to explain how its not personal, makes it even more dramatic. Its just like how I despise Ryan Strome as a player, but I actually think he has a good personality and seems to be a good person off the ice. Both can be true.

I can dislike his ability to score even if you are fan boying over him. Doesnt mean i hate him. The fact is he isn't an offensive player and shouldn't be the guy jumping over the game when we're down by one. He has 3 goals in 60 games with this team.....its not rocket science.

Does G to Chi make sense? Laik has been ok, but is a UFA. MAF might be moved as a rental and maybe retire after this season. Would G for say Nylander been an ok deal? Not sure if either side adds. Would love to get MAF as a BU in case Shesty gets injured again as well.

No interest in Nylander. I'd rather trade Georgiev for a pick.

I don't think adding another winger is going to do much for this team.

After watching the Strome-Panarin duo for a few seasons now it's apparent they either can't or don't want to play with a third skill player on that line. They want someone whose only purpose is to do all the dirty work necessary while they play pond hockey with each other. Since that's how it's apparently going to be with them for the forseeable future I think Hunt is fine in that role.

So you trade for a Reilly Smith type... then what? We're moving Kreider or Kakko to the 3rd line. No thanks.

So now this new hypothetical scoring winger is on the 3rd line with Chytil and Laf getting 10 minutes a night and no PP time. Is this player really going to produce with that kind of deployment?

The team needs a center, badly. And not just in the short term either, they need a true building block center. The team isn't going anywhere with two out of their top three centers doing nothing most games.

They need players that win faceoffs and should give Morgan Barron a chance to win that role before a panic trade.
