I get the feeling that we are still in the stage where:

1. Kreider’s value here > Kreider’s value on the market.

2. There may be a disconnect between the fan perception (if no one meets our demands let’s sign him!) and management reality (we’re 80% not signing him, this is a value optimization scenario).

Went through it with McD.
Likely Hayes/Zucc.

Just see it playing out similarly as of today. People are still in what the “what I would do” phase and not reading the actual signs out there.

I actually believe management may be valuing Kreider's ancillary effects of just being on the Rangers next year more than they should be.

I think much like some opinions here, they are scared they may turn into a failed rebuild should they move him.

Why they feel that way, I have no idea. In 5 years when the Rangers get their stuff together should they stay on the draft.development course, I just can't see anyone looking back and saying good thing they kept and extended Kreider or else none of this would have happened. Much more likely people are hating his cap hit and clause by that point.

I think this is good news for us. Keeps the big western teams with the better prospects in play with a few days to go elbowing each other for the top avail center in Hayes.

When the phrase ‘The Godfather offer’ is mentioned, I don’t think it’s the fans’ perception of Kreider’s value. All we’ve heard from the media is that the Rangers want a foundational piece in the package for Kreider. That’s not coming from the fanbase.

I don't think we're showcasing him.

i disagree.

i believe with the right offer, hes gone. i believe this organization would move him to get back another prospect

im bye no means giving up on a kid who i was very high in on draft day, but as an add to a blockbuster deal with say chris kreider and zucc plus LA going to nashville and us getting back a package of say tolvanen and fabbro and a 1st, i would drive LA to nashville myself.

That I would sort of believe, not those specific prospects coming back, but as a prospect for prospect swap, as part of a a larger deal it seems to not check off any "that's crazy" boxes.

That’s fair. But my point is the McDonagh conversations also started that way and stayed that way for a long time. Larry Brooks Feb 20th 2018 “if the Lightning and Bruines continues to wall off their grade A prospects, they won’t get McDonagh.”

What actually closed was quite different.

It’s a negotiating posture. But Kreider is way too “out there” as a name to me.

It seems TB can trade the 2019 1st.

Custance had this information today.

* A source confirmed that Tampa can trade its 2019 first-round pick with a condition that it becomes a 2020 (or later) first-round if they win the Cup and it has to sent to the Rangers. So that’s an option.

The Rangers would get a future 1st from TB.

McKenzie has something about that a few weeks ago.

Bob had LeBrun and Dreger on his podcast yesterday. McKenzie said TB is going to have to move the Callahan contract from their books and Dreger said the Rangers and TB had discussed making a deal for that contract.

Better be a good deal for Callahan, Tampa has a pretty good shot at winning the cup this year.

it absolutely behooves us to take on callahan. dealing with tampa is so comfortable now.

the better they get the better our pick gets. we need them to win the cup.

secretly, who doesnt want to see all those x rangers hoist a cup ?

TB trades the 1st. They win the Cup. The Rangers get their 1st in 2020. Stanley Cup hangover. The Rangers get a better pick than #31.

I think you’re confusing Brooks’ speculation, with what the likes of MacKenzie and Friedman have reported. You may end up being correct, but, I remain skeptical anyone is meeting the Rangers’ current ask for Kreider.
