This is well written and pretty much is exactly my thought process on why I would lean slightly towards trading him

Agreed that it was a well-thought our and well- written article. The hangup for a Kreider trade remains what the author describes as ‘the Godfather’ offer. I remain highly skeptical that such a deal gets done at the trade deadline. I’m also someone who doesn’t rule out the Rangers signing him long-term.

Here's my take on it.

Not every team that rebuilds/tanks wins a Cup, but every team that wins a cup has rebuilt/tanked.

Sure, it isn't a guarantee to win the Cup but NOT doing it is basically a guarantee you won't win

Perfectly stated. I'd rather take a 50/50 chance of winning any day over a 100% chance of losing.

Imagine if they could get a minimum of 3 firsts in this years draft plus a top prospect for each of Hayes, Zucc and Krieds (would need more than that for Kreids).

That would give you the current set of assets (kids) the Rangers have, plus 4 first round picks this summer (and maybe a 5th if TB wins the cup) and the ability to use them all to move up or trade for an elite top prospect or current young NHL player. You would also open up tons of cap room to sign vets to stagger the contract years. Talk about a clean-slate rebuild. There would be little left other than Zib up front. Scary thought for next year's team though.

Now where have I heard that term before.....hmmmm.......

In other news, I am in your camp on this. I think Kreider stays and receives a long term deal. For multiple reasons.

I also agree that there is probably not such a deal out there. The first rounder would be a late one. So now, if I was Gorton, I would insist on this year's first, next year's first, a top prospect (crown jewel of organization) and a secondary one.

Sounds about what my price would be.

I still don't think #20 is moved at the deadline, despite the noise that clubs are calling. Of course they are going to inquire. Team commited to a rebuild. No player is safe. That includes #20..but im definately on the side of the fence that wants him to stick.

So much talk about Toronto. There's such a wealth of forwards over there already. If, Nylander was the return the Rangers pull off the Zbad/Brass deal all over again. The good is they get younger. They have a player who "maybe" has more upside. They also get the player who just hasn't been good w/out his former centerman Austin Matthews. Or, they can also get younger with a similar move in Kapanen. He's a really nice prospect. Adapting well. Has speed. He's got 18 goals this year. He also has played with Mathews, and JT. Rangers don't have the luxury of 2 centers like that. Risky.

The funny thing is the Leafs fans saying Zaitsev as a return. Im confident that Jeff Gorton isn't on the same page as Leafs fans.

Normally i'm excited about the deadline. I can't wait for this one to pass. Stay the course.

Scary but then think about Lafreniere!

If kreider goes to the leafs nylander will be coming back and it will be a bigger deal than that

this organization does weird stuff.

playing mcquaid ? why???? then he goes down and we look like chumps. russian roulette anyone.

13 and 36 both playing last night but seriously looking like they could care less. keep them out until a deal is done you clowns.

lias andersson ?? kids been woeful in hartford and hes promoted ? obviously hes being showcased for a deal but then why not have him here playing 2 weeks ? is it because the more he plays the way hes been playing the last 3 mos the more average he looks. showcased or hidden ? I'm confused.

the whole hartford debacle. that place is a tire fire. development ?? what development. our prized 7OA pick is there and hes stagnating. and to think shesty comes over from playing in the KHL and might be sent there to ride a bus to binghamton ny. yeeesh

and this is the organization we want drafting players for our future after selling off all the legit NHL talent on the roster ? move 36, 13 and now 20 for draft picks...... and then let this bunch draft away. same group who chose olaf lindbom 39OA last draft ? yikes.

baseball season cannot start soon enough.

I dont see that tho. If they’re loading up for Bear how can u trade Nylander?

I understand the cap constraints they’ll be under but that just doesn’t make much sense.

Now if you say their 2020, their top-2 prospects plus a cap dump, then I think the Leafs would pull the trigger

I get the feeling that we are still in the stage where:

1. Kreider’s value here > Kreider’s value on the market.

2. There may be a disconnect between the fan perception (if no one meets our demands let’s sign him!) and management reality (we’re 80% not signing him, this is a value optimization scenario).

Went through it with McD.
Likely Hayes/Zucc.

Just see it playing out similarly as of today. People are still in what the “what I would do” phase and not reading the actual signs out there.

I think Kreider has more value moving forward than McDonagh did as well as Hayes/Zucc. McDonagh’s game was clearly starting to detiorate. Kreider is hitting his peak it appears, but more than that he impacts the overall game play for both sides when he is on the ice. His speed and physical size push defenders back and keeps them honest. They have to respect it. He is a BIG body down low and in front of the net. His numbers for his net front play are some of the best over the last few years. He doesnt appear to be slowing down at all. He is in great shape. So whereas the FO may have seen a reason to move on from McDonagh, they may see the justification to extending Kreider
