The Andersson call-up was confusing for sure. They didn't sit out either of Hayes or Zuccarello like you'd expect. If it was a showcase, then that means they would be adding Lias to a package for someone big? But how does this make sense for the acquiring team? Maybe TOR with Nylander? Kreider and Andersson for Nylander and one of their D prospects (Liljegren??)? Struggling to find an answer to a move that appears to make no sense.

My guess, the Rangers have some trades that are close, they did not know if they would need not only Neives but also Lias to in order to ice enough forwards.

On the flip side the Rangers had some people scouting them, I think Calargy and Pitt were there and I do think both those teams can line up for trades with the Rangers

Why they played McQuaid to me is more of question as they have plenty of D most are not likely to be moved. I don't think any team was watching that game, saw his 8 shift, one with a penalty and was like, I need him. The only thing I can think of, he was already hurt, something the Rangers would likely tell anyone interested in him as selling damaged goods without disclosure it frowned upon, maybe even not allowed I'd assume, and the Rangers were trying to show he was not that bad, and that went poorly.

Why is there an alternative reason for the Rangers recalling Andersson? Brooks started that last night with his tweet about thinking out loud.

Nothing the Rangers have done this year has made any sense. They sent him Andersson down because there was no roster spot for him and they wanted him to play major minutes in the AHL. For some inexplicable reason, the Rangers brought him back to New York three weeks later. Nothing had changed. They sent him back down.

How can you even say that? Scheifele was producing at the same clip that Lias is now. Did you watch Scheifele closely enough after his draft year to determine this? To see how much talent he was displaying then and compare to Lias now? Scheifele didnt come flying onto the scene so he was sent back to Juniors at age 18. A league that is absolutely not on par with the SHL. His 3rd year after the draft he sticks with WPG after 2 years in the OHL and puts up 34 points in 63 games.

They may not be the exact same player types, but the example still hold weight. You have no way of knowing what Lias is or will be less than 2 years after his draft..

Again you’re focusing on pt production and not the raw talent/skating/size/skill package. Everyone knew scheifele was going to be a heck of a player. Maybe not as good as he turned out to be but his raw ability was very apparent.

What the hell went on last night? McQuaid got hurt, and the Rangers are playing with fire and better hope that Hayes and Zuccarello don't follow suit. And what was with the hasty Lias Andersson move? Seemed like a move to indicate he is on the block -- if that's the case, perhaps he should've been playing more 4 days before the deadline. Maybe Sather and Gorton can send out another letter to the fans to explain.
Must be too much pressure from Hank and Quinn to keep winning.

If you have trades that are close, then why is Nieves the one to sit? My musings as to the possible reason could be way, way off, but nothing about the move appears to make sense. Hayes or Zucc should have been the one sitting if a trade was possible.

My guess, it was said in the game thread that Calgary's GM was there, not sure if that is verified so put it under speculation I guess. If so he probably does not get to MSG very often, so perhaps he was there looking at Hayes and or Zucc.

It’s confirmed Treliving was there. I like to think that he and Gorton met up before the game to negotiate, and Lias was called up in case they reached a deal. But Treliving wanted to get a better look at Zucc and Hayes, so neither sat. But they also didn’t want Lias sitting in the press box, so he played too.

I don’t know, just wildly speculating and trying to convince myself that Lias isn’t on the block. Because that would be beyond dumb.

Reactions: Off Sides
“I do think the Leafs and the Rangers have been in contact about things,” allowed Friedman. “I do know this: I know that there have been teams who asked about Kreider, and they’ve told me the price was really high. They said if you looked at the Rangers guys who were available, they were willing to accept lower prices on their UFAs - the Hayes and the Zuccarellos of the world - than on Kreider.

“They wouldn’t be the first team to ask, and I know they have talked to the Rangers about things. It’s not a huge surprise, and I think he’d be a great fit in Toronto. I just know the Rangers have told people in the past the price on Kreider is very high because he’s got one more year.”

Kreider isn’t doing much recently to justify the Rangers high asking price. He has 4 goals in his last 23 games. He looks invisible on too many nights. Zuccarello and Zibanejad carried that line but they’re losing some steam. Very quiet nights against Carolina and Minnesota.

Thanks, I was trying to find confirmation, but that would make more sense than just the Rangers risked injury to them.

McQuaid however, I don't know maybe someone was trying to look at him, yet I'd think most teams pretty much know what he is.

This is the most likely way things went down.

You don't showcase a player by giving him the fewest minutes of anyone.

Was probably a timing thing... they wanted Lias up because they are close on a deal... Lias played because he’s up. The deal doesn’t get done and they sit Boo.

They play both Hayes and Zucc because they don’t want to show that a deal is close w them and they like playing chicken w freight trains

Could care less if Anderson is on the block. Guy is a disappointment and I'm not pleased with his play . Don't watch the pack enough and I know he's got a knack for being in the right place at the right time but he just can't think the game through. That's not a good sign for a guy who had been playing actual pro hockey for 3+ years now
How old is he? 20? Give me a break.

In other words, I don't think he's in the same category as Zibanejad, Kreider, or Chytil.

I think they'd be willing to include him if they felt they were getting a young enough NHL player.

Where have I heard this before...sounds so familiar...let me think...

Great lotto night for the Rangers.

- Wild beat them and its a 4 point swing. dropping the Rangers down.
- Oilers came back to beat the Isles in OT keeping their playoff hopes alive and closing within 4 points of the Rangers
- Arizona and Vancouver go to OT which was the best scenario. Arizona vaulted ahead of the Rangers and the Nucks picked up the loser point to draw even at 60.
- Ottawa is complete garbage but at least they got whacked by the Devils. Schneider is hot coming into the Garden winning 3 in a row. They have a shot to close within 2 points of the Rangers with a win.

3 points separate the reverse places 7-14. Really jammed up. The Rangers are currently sitting in the 8 spot.

22 games remaining. The Rangers have one of the toughest schedules out of the group and likely losing two of their top scorers (and maybe more) through scratch or trade here on out. From a draft perspective would love it if the Rangers can finally crack the top 5 to get a quality game-changer for years to come.

whoever played a role in us drafting him should probably be replaced with somebody more competent.
