I’d suggest if you don’t want to look stupid, consult Cap Friendly before you make trade proposals. The Rangers have plenty of cap room this year. Next year is tighter than a drum. Plan accordingly.

It will be interesting if/when Drury goes into the rental market at the deadline, he has the money and ammo to get whoever he wants, and get multiple rentals. This feels like it will be one of those Nik Antropov/Derek Morris deadlines for the Rangers, hopefully with better results.

Drury will never have as much cap space in the future as he has this year. Once teams start to lose hope, there will be some real interesting opportunities out there.

I don't get the hate for some players, Strome is one of them. The guy has his warts but he has 149 points in 200 games for us and all we gave up was Ryan Spooner, lol.
Strome has played admirably here. He’s resurrected his career and played above and beyond what we all thought the return for spooner would be.
However, he’s not really the type of center this team needs as currently constructed.
He put up a large share of points largely due to Panarin and riding shotgun on a solid rangers PP.
The main problem with strome is that he was supposed to be a temporary band aid that’s is still hanging on for dear life even though it should have been ripped off by now.
With the extension of Zibby long term, it’s pretty easy to see that strome isn’t in the rangers future plans. Without panarin and forced pp time, strome is 35-40 pt center who is bad at face offs, not good defensively, not very physical, and about to make too much money for too many years.
It is common knowledge he has been shopped long and hard and there just really isn’t any good offers for him. Other teams know the book on strome at this point.
If the rangers want to get to the next level, upgrading the 2C position from strome is key. Barron likely takes over as a dependable 3C. The rangers need a solid 2C that can play 200ft hockey and be responsible, while still contributing offensively 5v5. Strome isn’t that guy. The rangers would be better served with a center that plays a more complete game that scores less points.
Panarin will still create offense and whoever the center is will get his numbers.
But even if they take a short term hit on chemistry/points, they will be far better off in the long run.
It’s no secret the rangers are hoping chytil can fill that void. It’s also no secret that if Danault accepts Drurys offer, strome was a goner.
It seems like he has 9 lives with NYR. When he plays the way he’s played recently, he’s an asset. But that’s not the strome you get the majority of the time.

Yeah but again I still don't get the hate. He's frustrating at times but so is half the damn team. It's not his fault we can't find a better solution right now. He's averaged .75 ppg since he's been here and has actually played well when Panarin has been out of the lineup FWIW.

Part of it is his deployment, part of it is blocking a spot for LaF/kakko on the PP, part of it is preventing chytil from a bigger role to appease panarin.
There’s certain things beyond his control. And I think Quinn and Gallant are using what they have as opposed to what’s needed. That part isn’t Stromes fault

Drury himself was moved for Derek Morris in 2002

I still think Dvorak would have been a good get for us. Forget about what he scored last night. He plays a responsible 2-way game And panarin would have definitely pumped his offensive numbers.
I think there are more then a few teams that would like to make a trade and try to shake things up and try to turn they’re seasons around. Namely Ott/Van, and I still think we are a favorite to make a trade with LA
Too bad Calgary is winning. We love to overpay and try to pry Lindholm from them.
If your Drury, now might be the time to overpay on Bo Horvat in hopes that Benning will let him go.
He would cost a ton, but he’s exactly what NYR needs. Plus the nucks could use some blueline help. Maybe kravtsov+ D prospect+ chytil?

Sidney Crosby
Geno Malkin
Jonathan Toews

There are going to be some nice names out there that even teams like the Pens might be willing to move.

Horvat was/is my wishful thinking target.

I just dont know about the cap situation past this year to fit him.

I do think if this team is in a secure playoff position at the deadline Drury is going to make an impact add, likely a rental because he has the cap space for this year. And we have the assets.

Does Kreider make Pavelski a bit redundant? They’re both known for their net front presence and Pavelski would only be seeing 20 sec on PP2 lol
Crosby would be crazy, do you really see Pittsburgh trading him though? Imagine Laf on a line with Crosby

I LOVE the thought of Pavelski with Panarin. In saying that, I'm not paying for him as a rental this season. It's not the right time

Agreed, i think the cap dollars for him might be an issue.

What type of player does Krav + Nils get us? I want to see Jones come up and then let Schneider take over next year. If Trouba keeps up this season he may play his entire contract here.

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider
with Robertson as insurance could be amazing for a 2-4 year period.
