Miller accused (without much supporting evidence except rhetoric but also without much push back over the years) of being a locker room cancer.

Sather already pretty much indicated this back in the day and I recall, libelously, someone mentioned Miller was mean to Vesey when we had them.

We have 2 2nd round picks this season and it’s not like we’re historically good with them either. Also by 2 2nds I mean 2 2nds or equivalent value. Toffoli would be a great get though for sure. Our only pure sniper right now is Zibanejad. Panarin can shoot as well but other than that we have no one else with a high end shot on forward.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Toffoli
Lafreniere-Chytil-Goodrow
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves

is my ideal lineup. Montreal has too many RW and snipers. Plus Toffoli is signed at only 4 mil for this season and the next. Would fit perfectly with Panarin-Strome
You have to give Gauthier 10 or so games to see if he can sink or swim.
If he fails miserably, then they should bring up Barron and give him the same look before spending assets on a short term band aid that likely won’t be here next season.
There are plenty of game between now and the TDL. It’s better to try and fill the gap in house rather then losing assets at this time.
The only way I’m dealing my 1St or either 2nd rders if I’m drury is for a long term upgrade at 2C.
I think they’d rather deal Kravtsov then any picks in the first 2 rounds next season.
He’s their likely ammo at the TDL.

I’m sure Jeff Gorton experienced this last year.

Miller and AV hated each other, and EdJo didn't like Miller so that became the board's defacto position (for some very weird reason).
Miller and Strome seem to share a lot of traits where they perform quite well but their mistakes are glaring and so people really get on them in a way you don't see with a lot of other players

I don't get the hate for some players, Strome is one of them. The guy has his warts but he has 149 points in 200 games for us and all we gave up was Ryan Spooner, lol.

The Rangers have about $10 million in cap space. Meaning they can add players the rest of the way whose pro rated AAV add up to $10 million? Am I understanding that right? I know the concern is raises due next season for existing Rangers.

Don't get me wrong, Miller had some issues, but he was also the highest scoring (56 pts) 1st round forward we've drafted since Kovalev (58), and the the 3rd highest Ranger forward pick for scoring behind Stepan and York (both 57 pts).

While that mainly speaks to our woeful record on drafting, it probably also says that we need to cut some players a bit more slack, and if nothing else not include them as a throw in on what was already a pretty average trade return

They can add up to $9.7MM in full season cap hit as of today. That number is prorated for how much of the season has been played but you'd look at the players full year cap hit related to that number. If they go into the TDL with the space they currently have, they'd be able to obsorb $40MM in full season cap hits.

They are very similar. But one striking difference is Miller plays with an edge and isnt afraid to be physical.

Strome is a pansy.

I mean, no offense, I know we can crap on Krav (and some of it is definitely justified), but Barron has done everything this organization has asked as far as going down and proving you deserve a shot and we still choose that black hole mckegg. I don’t understand the way this organization views opportunity and earning it. It has been skewed since day 1 of the rebuild. You reap what you sew.

Resigning McKegg was just terrible.

We should've offersheeted him this past offseason. Vancouver couldn't match it and we'd be getting a young #1C for 4 late 1st rounders. And given how bad we are at drafting 1st rounders, I could live with that.

We're not going to draft someone of Pettersson's calibre with him on our team.

How do you know? Those picks would be 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. There's no guarantee we are contenders that far into the future.

This team went from a President's Trophy to a 2nd overall pick in 4 years. Chicago from a Cup win to 3rd overall in the same span.

It's called a calculated risk. We're not going to be that bad with Pettersson, Fox, Shesty and so on.

Also even if we pick 3rd overall the chances are that player won't be as good as Pettersson.

I'm sure the Blackhawks felt the same way in 2015.

But this is why offer sheets for 4 first rounders never happen. It's too risky.
Are you comparing us with a team where all their stars were older, declining players?

You know that Fox and Shesty are in their primes/just entering their primes, right?

No offersheets rarely happens because the NHL is an old guys club and no one wants to make their friends mad at them and risk getting blacklisted by that team they just poached a player from.

We don't know how many offer sheets are actually sent out. All we know is what offers were signed. Only those are public knowledge.

What would Gurianov cost?

What other big and fast, Kreider/MaxPac types would be available?

No. They dont happen because there is a SALARY CAP. 1st round picks are crucial to replenishing your roster with cheap ELC talent to keep your competitive window open as long as you can. Its asinine to offer sheet for a player and fork over (4) 1st round picks.

How is it asinine? 4 mid/late 1st rounders for a young #1 franchise center.

We already got one of the youngest squads in the league. We got a very good prospect pool. We still have 2nd and 3rds and so on. We suck at developing forwards and we usually do better with our players picked in the 2nd and 3rd round.

I'd get it if we was an old team with a depleted prospect pool.
