Unfortunately the dream of being the traditional cup contender that is stacked down the middle died when we won two lotteries for Ws. Unless we plan to convert a large portion of that value at W to C (which means trading Panarin, or down the line, Kakko or Laf) then it is what it is and we’ll just need to find value out of underappreciated 2 way Cs that can complement all the talent we have at W. We need the next Lindholm, Cirelli, Horvat, etc. We don’t need the next elite superstar C, nor can we fit them given our current balance.

Cirelli isn’t elite, but they had Kuch. Schenn isn’t elite, but they had incredible depth. VGK has never had a true 1C and they’ve gone deep many times. The cap is making things a lot tighter, which means the anatomy of a champion is changing. We need to find the piece that fits in the current puzzle as constructed, not manufacture a whole new puzzle.

Bitetto really wasn't THAT bad last year either.

There is also Reunanen
Bitetto was beyond awful

Jones should be getting the look right now. Team is winning so they have been more patient with Lundkvist.

Tinordi just needs to go away.

Totally fine with Hunt getting an extended look on the 1st line. He has earned it. Cant look at his career where has mainly been a 4th liner and just be mad based off it that he is getting a 1st line look.

The 1st round pick is in play for a backup goalie who will play 20 games the rest of the way?

That must be some serious shit youre smoking.
Here’s the truth - we were taking a goalie @ 1 this draft until Drury got outmaneuvered.

Goalie depth is like pitching … Matt Murray has a ring - nobody ever heard of him.

I want a guy that if I had to play I can say - yeah he’s capable of carrying us .

Huska would be our Talbot. Never pay for a backup goalie.

If a 1st+ is in play, we better be getting Gourde with retention.
Huska ia 24 - Time to shit or get off the pot… So if that’s your guy - so be it - bring him up and let’s go to war.

We already have a top shelf guy. No need for another. Steady backup. Sometimes incremental upgrades or boring moves are worth their weight in gold.
I like my backup to be a guy other teams can say shit he could start for us - ie talbot .

Fact of the matter is every single team in this league knows they can run Igor and turn us into a loser. Not only that, but we probably won’t do anything in retaliation.

I would still rather have anybody we're playing over Hajek.

He's right down there with Tinordi.
Nemeth also sucks on the right side. You make one player worse by moving him to the right side only to replace him on the left side with a bad player. The rangers hands are tied if they want to solve the rangers third pairing problems internally this season the way I see it. Kinda gotta sink or swim with Nils for now. I do think Hajek gets a game or two along the way. They'll probably move one of Hajek or Tinordi and they'll want to see who looks worse before they make their decision.

There is no “truth”. There is only assumptions. I respect our vetted insiders but there is no definite in that we were absolutely taking a goalie. And even if that was the case thats an entirely different situation.

1) The Rangers were sitting in the middle of the draft order and were looking at the value vs where their draft slot was. If they had a Top 5 pick I highly, highly doubt they were taking a goalie. Even if they had a top 10 pick. There were forwards/centers to be taken.

2) Drafting a goalie at 18 years old, who you will spend time developing, is different than trading for a 24-30 year old backup who is going to play 25-30 games in a season. By the time we make a hypothetical trade it could be 15-20 games. You do not trade 1st round picks for that. You do not trade 2nd round picks for that. Maybe not even a 3rd round pick for that. Go look at Georgiev when his play was at higher value. We couldnt even get a 2nd round pick for a 23-24 year old goalie. You think were going to pay a 1st? Out of your mind.

3) This team has other more pressing needs that IF they dangle the 1st round pick it will be going for a 2C. Maybe for a top 6 scoring winger. But likely only for a 2C.

4) Goaltending is not like pitching. The Rangers will ride Igor their #1 for a majority of the season. Yes you want a decent backup but again you dont pay top draft picks for 25-30 games per season. If Igor goes down we are screwed no matter what or who is behind him.

Wondering if its even a good idea for the Rangers to play the Islanders twice this week with all the Covid they got over there.

The Ottawa Senators Have a 100% Vaccination Rate—and 40% of the Team Has Tested Positive for Covid

Even in a league with a 99% vaccination rate, breakthrough cases on the Senators have now infected more than 40% of the roster. Yet epidemiologists say they are not particularly surprised. They have long warned that while vaccines are highly effective in preventing serious illness from the coronavirus, they’re not as foolproof in blocking infections, especially as time passes, immunity fades and the highly contagious Delta variant spreads—especially when other preventive measures are not also in effect.

Outside of that bubble, there were rich examples of how easily the virus could spread inside an ice rink. In a paper published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida health officials recounted a June 2020 recreational hockey game in Tampa Bay during which a presymptomatic but infectious player appeared to have transmitted coronavirus to eight out of 10 teammates, five out of 11 players from the opposing team, and one rink staff member.

Finnish researchers found an asymptomatic carrier of Covid-19 in an under-20 team had infected 22 of 28 teammates, that another 24 players from two opposing teams the under-20s had just played tested positive in the next two weeks, and since some of those players were training with senior teams, an additional three infected players were detected.

Wow. This makes me feel great about playing on 3 separate hockey teams this fall/winter.

Cant stop playing but man, lets hope there arent any new variants that pose more of a risk.

I don’t get the talk about a forward. Forwards are pretty good right now imo. We need a backup goalie and a 6/7 D with basic puck skills
Especially since we haven't even tried to fix the problem from within. There are options, Barron, Pajuniemi etc. Heck even the D issue could be mitigated with calling up Jones.

Talbot was 26 when he broke out with us. He's got time and he's playing well.

Hopefully can lock him up to a reasonable term to be the backup the next 2-3 years

I don't want it to be a long term thing but I like Hunt with Zibs at the moment. Hunt and Kreider together add another good forechecking line. No more one and done in the offensive zone.

Hopefully Hunts effort can rub off onto Zibs

On Nils and Zac at training camp. Hard to say that Zac outperformed Nils when he only played twice and the second time was the 3rd game vs. NJ. Nils played 4 of the 6 exhibition games. I think there is something to the Rangers really wanting Nils to make the team.

I don’t have a huge issue with Nils on the bottom pair. That said his minutes definitely need to be managed and he probably should sit now and again. Tinordi though has not impressed in a good way so it would be helpful having a steadier guy to jump in. I also wouldn’t have an issue with sending Nils to Hartford and giving either Schneider or Jones a look.

We can't afford Pettersson without gutting the team.

This is the team minus a little tweaking here and there. A prospect hockey trade makes the most sense.
Yep. This team probably needs one more spare forward and they’ll need to decide what to do with Strome. There are a few defensemen that will be knocking on the door in the next year or so. Aside from that, unless something crazy happens - which by definition we here won’t be able to forecast - we have our team. LGR.

Brooksie talking about 'Dafuq you doing Drury and Gallant' in his paywall article.

Lundkvist not playing late game when holding a lead. Lundkvist not playing late game when you need a goal. He's not physcial or strong puck mover. Why is he here?
I actually see Nils developing into a pretty physical player. He has a good low center of gravity and is pretty stout. He’s starting to throw the body more lately. I think giving him a game or two off makes sense. He’s still learning the league and a break is great to digest some lessons. I expect he rejoins the lineup today - or soon - and looks good.
