I could see this but they’re only 4 years apart

I thought Shestryorkin was 23? That would mean they are 5 years apart. Which means Lindbom would be 23 when Shesty is 28. Not a bad plan to have a 24-25 year old back-up when your other guy may be 29-30 and looking for a massive pay-day if he is very good. Look at Bob

It's not rocket-science. Teams will start copying the TB model. How do you get/keep a stacked team?

Goalie is the one position you can keep cost-controlled with proper drafting/developing.

5 years.

Goalie position and stay at home DMen are the two positions that have dramatically changed over the last decade.

No one knew Lundqvist would be what he was.

I don't know what you're trying to convey..

but getting a #1 goalie in the draft and developing them is easier than getting a 1st liner/top pairing defenseman and retaining them. That's my point.

Instead of giving a goalie like HL over 13% of the cap you have his replacement ready to go and could use that cap for the 'harder' to obtain/keep assets.

This is assuming it's possible but given the goalies that have come through here, I believe it is.

I'd equate modern day NHL goalie to the modern day NFL RB.

Another NY -> FL transplant here.

What I miss about NY/NYC

Pizza
Bagels
Water (drinking)
MSG (going to Rangers games)
US Open (tennis)
Seafood restaurants
MSG pre/postgame Rangers (I'm not buying a sport package solely for this)

What I don't

Property Taxes
State Income Tax
High(er) Sales Tax
The Weather
The miserable people all working 2 jobs to pay their bills
The Traffic
The slow-ass LIRR

For me, personally, FL > NY, but I do miss stuff.
Mostly agree but I4 traffic is no vacation either, not to mention the idiot tourist drivers who will back up on off ramps because they went on wrong exit etc.

Right there with you. Miss the "stuff", but not the BS.
But, hush hush. We don't want those damned New Yawkers coming here........oh wait, what?

Btw, if ypu have directv, you dont need a special sports package per sé, just sportspack at $13.00 per month, includes MSG, YES and SNY. Get all pre games and post games.
Can even get that coupled with showtime or starz......just make a deal with them. Lol
Hmm I'm going to have to look at this as unfortunately it appears I'm heading for Florida by April. I don't want to but costs here are just insane. Thanks for posting that as that makes me feel better knowing I can get msg.

I think Lindbom was drafted to potentially replace Shesty. 5-7 years from now. Having a productive goalie on an ELC is massive value in a capped league.

I don't think management just assumes the best case scenario with each prospect. We have a long history of drafting shit goaltenders in the 2nd round (Lafleur, Halverson, Lindbom?) In fact, our second round has been brutal since 2008.

Look at how Hellberg is doing on the same KHL team. We can't assume that there's a 100% chance that Shesty becomes an NHL starter.

It's a theory/plan. Not every plan is executed flawlessly.

but with Raanta, Talbot and now Georgiev, I'd be confident.

Agreed on the last sentence. But when the Rangers signed Lundqvist to that huge deal, they kind of had to. No one knew what Talbot would be. Raanta wasn't on the radar. Shesterkin and Huska weren't even picked yet.

The team was in prime time to compete and they got close 3x.

It's funny because the Lundqvist/Rangers divorce is going to happen and then we can go back to appreciating him and not having to hear about his salary or analyzing how PO'd he is at every goal.

I'd argue that it's Gortons job to find out zibs relative value. It's called Due deligence. I just think that the front office needs to look at every possibility

I think the Rangers just took the player they liked best because they're at the very beginning of rebuilding. Nobody knows how Shersterkin works out or anyone else. You can't plug in a guy who never played in the NHL (Shesterkin, Kravtsov, Miller) or even someone who's not established (Chytil, Lias, Howden) because we don't know how things will play out with them. At least some of these can't miss amazing prospects will be in the minors or have a career as a dime a dozen role player without any trade value.

You'll need DirectTV, or ATT Uverse if you're doing cable.

Most other cable entities don't offer MSG at all.

Just a hypothetical... Where are we in the standing if the Mac trade never happened?
Thats a pretty good question. I haven't watched many Tampa games but hasn't Mac played well. I would say close to the playoff bubble teams maybe around 65 points but that would not be good for us just missing the playoffs or losing in round 1 this season. we need a top 7 pick this year. top 5 preferable then please go back to winning and developing these kids in a winning culture.

Tough to say. Miller and McDonough would have us in the 8th playoff seed area based on the fact that the rags lost a high number of close games. I am not opposed to trading miller and mac but I would like a redo on that trade and perhaps traded them in separate deals.
