HFNYR: This rebuild will take a minimum 3-5 years until the team is competitive

Also HFNYR - Chayka is a bad GM because after 2+ years the Yotes are still bad (despite starting out worse, being in a worse market, and being a budget team).

They've basically treaded water since he took over. If you're in year 3 and you aren't taking steps forward, you've done a bad job.

Night and day

But we see it differently

They hadn't traded four consecutive 1st round picks and numerous 2nd round picks.

Their rebuild started years before Chayka got there

They have had a ****load of injuries and are on the border of a playoff spot albeit in a weak conference. I think they are improving even if it doesn't seem like it.

Things that have been said about the Coyotes for each of the last 3 seasons.

The Schmaltz and Dvorak injuries haven't helped at all, but there is enough there for them to be better than they are.

Then you take a look at Strome and Domi who are thriving in their new locations. The golden boy straight up got owned in each of those trades and even the Stepan trade is looking like a pretty big bust for them.

The time of BoobMcKenzie is nigh

Every year.

It's even better that every year always gets something like:

@RadioActiveTaint420/ 55 Followers: dallas is close to sending seguin at 50% retained back to boston. its believed Carlo and three 4th round picks are the return

HF Poster: Is this true? Anyone know if this guy is legit?

@Mydogsbuttisyourmomsface: Caps closing in on deal with Edmonton for McDavid and 50% of the Edmonton oil supply for a used tampax

Hf poster: yo anyone ever heard of this guy? is he reliable?

They’re like crack heads

No, he’s a bad GM because he has made two terrible deals in the last two years.

Yeah, we have for a while gone after several ‘analytics darlings’ and Brooks have several times reported how we supposedly are heavy into analytics, was Gorton listening to someone corsi scouting? Shatty, Smith, Pirri, Clendenning, Names and so forth. What a bunch!

Analytics can be great and must certainly be incorporated into every day business. But you cannot like look at corsi or some lame attempt to make it relative and think it will tell you how well a player plays. AINEC. Girardi was the worst ever and he change team and is now what ahead of McD and Stralsy in Tampa by quite much and has what CF 51.5%. And it’s unfortunate because analytics could probably be more useful then it is — if so many using it weren’t so protective and dared to look at some very obvious sources of error.

Hopefully Gorts will learn going forward. Need to get the right people in. These new tracking things will bring so many new options. Hopefully he will look outside hockey though and use people from other sports who have a little bit more experience of how to use it and aren’t locked into the baseball counting BS. Hockey is so far behind Soccer for example it’s pretty sad.
When people talk about analytics I go back to the Mets of the early 80s. Ron Gardenheire was their shortstop. Had a decent glove. Couldn’t hit a lick but the Mets won 2/3 of the games he played. Analytics are nice but you also need to go by the eye test and your gut and what is working.

Gonna guess the guys @Mikos87 is talking about:

Bellemare and Raffl

Nope. Raffl has TDL interest, but might be a try-out in September if not back in Europe. Bellemare too, but he'll get a look because of the intangibles and that he's helped Vegas quite a bit in limited outings.

The two guys are completely unsexy names, and never get mentioned here. If Gorts signed them, there would be shrieks of agony for months on end.

The scorer would be an excellent value at $4M imo. He's going to get a surprising return at the deadline, may be on par with Zucc. One of the better skaters in the league. Could end up in Nashville.

The "4th Liner" actually plays 3rd line on a cup contender, but goes up against top 6 competition during 5v5. Excellent PKer. One of the tops in the league.

Tanev and Dzingel.

Thought that was only for the 2nd guy.

Brandon Tanev plays on a contender.

Well it doesn't apply anyway because people do talk about Dzingel and I thought it was pretty obvious he was going to get more than 4 years for 4M per (and it's gonna be a bad contract).

Tanev is a good player. 3.5M a year for him would be an extremely bad contract. He's like a Jesper Fast. And this is exactly why Jesper Fast needs to be traded.

Chayka has done some good things and some not so good things. He drafted Keller and Chychrun in 2016. That’s exactly the kind of draft the Rangers need (perhaps they got it last year) he has used cap space wisely to pick up dead contracts coupled with assets. The Coyotes have had a lot of injuries this year to important players. On the other hand he went into 2017-18 without solid goaltender depth and when Raanta got hurt, the season was shot. The forward group is mostly populated with third and fourth line types. They mishandled Strome badly.

No GM gets them all right. There have been a few times when iI thought he and Tocchet were running out of rope but then the team bounces back and wins a few games. The whole financial situation is buying him some time. I expect the team will be sold soon and at that point anything could happen.

One thing I do think. They desperately want to make the playoffs, even if it is a short stay. I expect them to be active this week, although not in an earth shaking way.
