I don't think it's a **** up. If he's a player who filled a valuable role, then they'd pony up. I like to Boo, but what does he do really? I'm in the camp that he needed to drastically change who he was and how he played to carve out a 4th line role, and he hasn't.
If they end up losing negotiating rights/trade value over a single GP, then yeah thats a f*** up.

Let's put it this way: In Zlin, at the pro level, he was a winger. Kravtsov was a center at the u20 Four Nations and WJC. Doesn't make him a center

Sometimes you kind of build an identity at the age of 13-17. So much happen during that age.

Kevin Hayes basically never played center during what, 4 years in the NCAA? Still when you saw him play his last year in college he was a natural center playing wing, it looked like it.

But do you have info that Chytil played wing before being promoted to the top Czech league?

The scout list from the Rangers game today.

It was the perfect game. The Rangers lost and their top players padded their point totals.

Winnipeg was there for Hayes and possibly Zuccarello.

Columbus, Carolina and Philly aren't making a trade with Pittsburgh.

Columbus has been mentioned with Hayes.

Carolina is looking for more goal scoring.

Philly?

Is Edmonton trading for a rental? Puljijarvi wants out.

Arizona? They are in the mix for the wildcard.

Wasn’t the thing with Nieves that he would have had to play every game? No injuries, no Quinn Bin for the injury-prone 11th or 12th forward?

Yes. I saw him. I remember him playing wing at juniors

Rangers play Carolina on Tuesday.

I'd love for them to be scouting for possible trades though, thats a team that not only has pieces I'd like but also may be desperate to do something to get into the playoffs.

I mean at this point I’m pretty sure these teams know what they’re getting with out guys

So who’s scouting the team is whatever

It wasn't every game. At the time the story broke, (Jan 23) it was every remaining game, plus one:

2. The Rangers called up Boo Nieves one game too late. With 80 games the cutoff for unrestricted Group 6 free agency, Nieves has played a career total of 45, with 34 games remaining.
Thus, the Blueshirts need to either extend the center’s contract, move him by the deadline, or take the chance on allowing the Michigan product to go scot-free.

So according to many league sources is that if Ottawa doesn’t make a move the whole league is at a stalemate with trades going down. Is this correct?

I’ve seen all these reports, it’s a joke. It’s always the same, but — nothing — ever happens once this or that deal does get done.

NHL GMs are notorious for getting nothing done.

It will be the same as always 1-3 bigger deals might get done, and a handful of decent rental deals. Half the players teams are looking to get dumped won’t even get dumped. A lot will come down last second. And most of the time when something does get done — it’s the same GMs/teams that have been around a while that have the guts to execute. Washington, Pittsburgh, Chicago? and co. Where is Tampa? Yzerman was so patient, always only pulled the trigger when he had a clean win. McD trade was done last second. Now he is a senior advisor to the GM. Needed more time with his family. Will he run the show now before the deadline? He could go for something big.

Most of the GMs are never going to do anything. Think of a bad GM, and you will think of someone who made a couple of bad trades they regret. People never forget a bad trade. You can manage an underperforming franchise for 390 years without being critiqued, but a couple of bad trades will kill your career. GMs have a great job, for many it’s an extremely important event in their life, financially, being on the big stage etc. They don’t want to lose that job. If a GM don’t do a bad trade in 8 years — what would he have to do to get fired? It’s impossible. So why make a trade at all?

Then some might ask — but they are crazy signing UFAs, it don’t add up!? The thing is, most big UFA signings have been cleared with ownership. The ownership want the gate money. They recognize that they will earn a lot more if they can do better. So they go to their GM and say, hey, how can we improve? And the GM will say, we need to be patient bla bla bla, but signing an UFA can of course help. It’s a lot of money and you never know with older hockey players, but it can pay off. And they go for it.

Behind many teams that have made nutty UFA signings, it’s often been the owners pushing it. Leopold in Minny pushed for Parise and Suter right? That owner in Buffalo pushed for those nutty signings they did with Leino and co. And so forth.

I like Buch a lot, he is young and got upside — why deal him? We have put in the work. We have done with Buch what EDM have — not — done with Puljujärvi. How you produce a kid is easily 50/50 worth to what ‘talent’ a kid got at the draft.

We have other assets, don’t see the point in dealing Buch for him. We are just to start reaping the benefits from the work we put in with Buch.

I will give a 3rd for JP. That's about it

Would Lamoriello make a trade with the Rangers if it benefits his team or is he going to continue to be a 1980s cartoon character? I'm very curious if he still hates them and is 100% ignoring calls.

As for GMGM and the Erat/Forsberg deal, it essentially cost him his job in DC. He's not making the same mistake 2x. Vegas has enough B-level players to go after. They're not giving up prime assets.
