how does Ottawa deal duchene away knowing they gave up the first overall pick for him. They should be handing him a blank check just to save face alone.

One of the issues with resigning Stone was reported (if I remember right) about paying bonuses. They cant afford to pay what these players want in order to resign them.

And he'll likely get 7x10 on the market with top heavy bonuses the first few years.
I don’t think he’ll get that high, but he’ll definitely have it be heavily incentivized with bonuses to make it lockout proof.

That’s not enough and they don’t want to pay it in signing bonuses like everyone else right now.
Yeah, it’s not really surprising that they’re closing their checkbooks here. The owner already said he isn’t spending for three more years, so they may as well just the moves now. They’re needlessly holding up the market.

Got some of the Zuccettes in a tizzy so it did its job.

Of course 2.5 a year for him would be a great deal, one that he'll never take.

But it would be a waste of a C. He shouldn't come anywhere close to captaining this team, not with his sulking act.

If he had never come out of the funk, I'd have agreed with you.

However, hes come out of the funk to the tune of trending towards what would be his best statistical season to date .

I have started to lean towards giving the guy a pass.

Would I have preferred him not to have sulked? Absolutely, but it serves no one any good to focus on that and w not what he is doing now.

This, what we are seeing from Zuccs, is the player that we have had the last few years and 3+weeks before the deadline is great reminder for teams that were thinking of making an offer.

Any devaluation from the sulking has been erased

The real problem with Stone/Duchene being traded is that Dorian is one of the worst GMs in the entire league at getting anything close to market value back in trades and that’s going to f*** the rest of the trade negotiations

One thing I’ve been thinking about, there are often comments on how while — for example — Kreider-Ziba-Zucc does well, it’s not getting us very far. Hayes is mentioned in the same context.

I am not saying that it changes any conclusions — but from my POV our 4 lines could definitely lead a PO team, our big flaw is the blueline. Our best D must be one of the worst top Ds in the league. We have no leader back there. And there are all kind of flaws back there.

So I've been kind of disconnected lately, so I may have missed something, but isn't the whole "sulking" thing a bit exaggerated? From what I gather, he admitted to letting trade talks affect his game for a period, stated that it shouldn't have done so and came back playing some of his best hockey as a Ranger?

I think most players have let outside factors negatively affect their effort level from time to time, but admitting to it may be more rare.

That said, they should try and get what they can for him, and shouldn't bring him back this summer either, unless he signs an insanely team friendly deal. And even if they did, he shouldn't (won't) be a candidate for captain, nor do I think he'd want it. The young group they'll be bringing into next year will need a vocal captain. Zuccs, I belive, has taken a step back and become less vocal since the head injury, and even before that he was more of a jester than your typical #1 leader.
