Carolina has to be buying right?

They could use both Zucc and/or Hayes.

Yes they should. That means either Pittsburgh or CBJ fall. Maybe if CBJ trades breadman they slide and Carolina moves into there slot. Maybe the Crosby Cry Babies go for Zuke or Hayes which could make the Hurricanes up there offer. We need a RD and Fox is there ..instead of waiting on him go get his rights and secure him now.
I still think that if a team needs secondary scoring why not go for Zuke and Hayes together. It would make Carolina a 2 line team and Hayes and Zuke could re-up with them after there run.

It looks like Mark Stone will be available too. Kyper made a comment between the 2nd & 3rd period on the Canucks-Sharks game. Ottawa can't afford the signing bonus money.

Stone and Duchene will command more than the Rangers guys. Maybe a team doesn't want to meet the Ottawa asking price and they pay less for the Rangers players. It will probably have the same impact. Rentals don't have much an impact. Teams go for them every year with limited success. Winning the Cup is success.

The Rangers sat out Nash and Grabner last year with 3 games left before the deadline. The Rangers were at Montreal, home for Minnesota and Detroit. They traded Grabner after the Montreal game.

Do the Rangers sit out of their players again with three games left? Thursday at home for Minnesota, Saturday afternoon for NJ and at Washington next Sunday afternoon.

I don't know what the Rangers are going to do with Kreider. If you look at the 2020 free agent market, Kreider will be one of the top forward's available. Hall is the big player next year. Granlund. Galchenyuk. Coyle. Backstrom is a free agent. Gotta figure the Caps keep him. Hoffman. Toffoli. Dadonov. Schenn. Kreider will get paid. If decide to keep him and trade him as a rental next February, they will get a 1st and a prospect. They can get more now. Signed for one more season at a very good number.

To me I would like to move Kreider after the lottery to move into a draft slot for a specific player.

The problem is, how many teams are buying?

By my count there are a good 10-12 very capable forwards that teams are looking to trade. Many other forwards are on the verge and could be dangled. 16 teams will make the POs, say that 17-18 think that they are in the running.

There have been many deadlines with less action than last season. Last season 6 first round picks and 4 second round picks was moved in all of February.

I think it was Burnside who stated that something must be rotten in Florida, they have so many strong players and so many younger guys etc. I think many more teams should be buyers. The negative impact on all your players from dressing them on a bad team year in and year out cannot be measured. Look at a team like Colorado, they must get more secondary scoring. It’s just wishful thinking that they can acquire that — for next season — in this seasons draft. And it’s wishful thinking that they can get it for 20/21 too if they don’t get Hughes. Can a 19-20 y/o Kakko carry a 2nd line in the NHL? Doubt it. How long is the plan for them to suck? There are so many other organizations like that.

But what does it matter if they should be buyers or not, if with the players being tossed around, only 4-5 teams are prepared to trade their 1st round pick? If that even...

Can see the desperation in the Stars fans and I'm assuming their front office is feeling it too. Their forwards are not producing offense outside the first line.

I like Robertson more but Gurianov is a solid piece and that 2nd would be mid round.

Then trade Hayes for Niku and a 1st and Mcquaid for a 4th and 2020 7th. I'd say that's be a pretty successful deadline.

One solid prospect on offense and defense, a #1, #2, #4 and #7. Hopefully the Lightning win the cup Rangers would have 5 picks in the first 62 selections (3 #1s and 2 #2s).

Then evaluate the market for Kreider at the draft. If a team in the top 7 is interested have to think seriously about pulling the trigger.

JG has a built in excuse to play them all the way through now.

If the captaincy is in the Zucc negotiations they should sign him 4 years anyway, to give him time to help this team into a cup contender. Then it's easier to include the NMC. And perhaps he would leave some $$ on the table to get it.
Your delusional. Start being more realistic or your gonna be Hurt Even if they brought him back, the deal isn’t going past the expansion draft. 4 yrs? Captaincy? NMC? Crazy talk

Zucc will probably ask 5M or more. And the captaincy, the only thing I mentioned is if they see him in that role the term should be long enough for it to have an effect, and then it will make more sense to include a NMC.

But I'm still ready for a trade. The Rangers will probably pull the trigger if a great offer comes in, and they have to do it anyway if they are too far apart when it comes to an extension.
He will ask for the captaincy, will he? I’m not gonna respond to every comment you make, but you make zucc look bad, if in fact you know him. Seriously, it’s like your trolling everyone.

nah

You do that once and you'll never get value in a trade ever again. We have options, it'd be dumb and counterproductive to the rebuild to impose limits on ourselves.
Rentals are rentals. More teams/players will do this going forward. Teams/players are allowed to be smart and do what’s best for them. All 31 teams can trade their UFAs to be as rentals if they aren’t making the playoffs with the intention to resign them afterwards. That’s totally fair and on the up. And it’s good for the league. Player movement and the hot stove and such.
Now if they traded Kreider this year and he wouldn’t negotiate with the acquiring team at all and than resigned with the rangers next summer, that I could see affecting future deals.
But not rentals. Its good for the sport I think

If you're getting gamed out by buyers, you sign to a friendly, shorter contract with partial trade protections, and try again at the draft, or next year. You don't let other GMs get your assets without paying at least fair value. Or else you won't be rebuilding anything at all. Just selling off.
You think zucc and/or Hayes are signing a contract like that and setting themselves up for this to go on any longer. You realize that right? Zucc is gonna want a bare minimum 2yr10 with a full NMC after this. Hayes is gonna want full protection for the 1st three years of his deal, minimum. The mog is right. You trade them now for the best player you can get for them and whatever pick and you move on, resign them in the summer if the rangers have the money and the players are game

I have such a bad feeling that the senators are going to ruin the market this deadline cause that GM has no idea what he’s doing anymore.

The thing is that once Freddie Claesson comes off of IR we are at max roster size. So we won't be able to call anyone up to scratch Zucc or Hayes. Maybe we'll go with 8 D and play ADA or Smith on LW? The only other option is to start trading.

That’s my fear, Ottawa is gonna hold everything up until literally the last minute and we’re left without a dance partner when the music stops. I could totally see that happen and then have MSNBC level spin meisters like Micheletti tell us “You know Sam I like what management is doing. They decided to hold on to their players and play out the stretch run like they’re self rentals. The team values Zuccarello and Hayes as top notch players. This gives everyone more time to negotiate long term contracts.” Etc etc etc

God I hope not

Anyone who asks for the captaincy to be written into their contract does not deserve to be a captain of anything, let alone one of the most prestigious teams in the league.
