Although I fully expect them to find a way to sneak into the playoffs there has to be some nervousness in Pitt. Would you guys trade Zucc to the Pens for their first? Not sure if they would be in the market for another center /Hayes

That contract would be a coup, but giving the guy a discount to take the captaincy is an absolutely terrible precedent to set. Like, worse than Dark Ages terrible.

I hope we re-sign Zucc in the offseason, and if he's their guy I'd love to see him wear the 'C'; but selling the captaincy would turn my stomach.

Your bias against Zucc is just as bad and cringey as Webster’s bias for him.

Just so you know.

Got some of the Zuccettes in a tizzy so it did its job.

Of course 2.5 a year for him would be a great deal, one that he'll never take.

But it would be a waste of a C. He shouldn't come anywhere close to captaining this team, not with his sulking act.

Zucc will probably ask 5M or more. And the captaincy, the only thing I mentioned is if they see him in that role the term should be long enough for it to have an effect, and then it will make more sense to include a NMC.

But I'm still ready for a trade. The Rangers will probably pull the trigger if a great offer comes in, and they have to do it anyway if they are too far apart when it comes to an extension.

5M? That's too much for a smaller forward on the wrong side of 30. I would consider him offering 3.6M. He wears number 36 so that would have meaning for him. He could take that deal, be the captain, and play on the 2nd or 3rd line and help the younger guys take on bigger roles in the future.

The most disastrous thing we can do right now is enter into UFA contracts, which by definition are bad contracts because all 31 teams can get a free asset and the only way you get him is if 30 other teams think the contract you offered is too crazy for them. The UFA contracts are particularly bad at their tail end which is when our youth should mature.

If instead of getting first rounders for MZA, Hayes and Kreider, we give them albatross contracts, we will go another 2 decades without winning the Cup. The next decade will be ruined by the bad contracts and lack of youth, then the following decade will be another rebuild. This is just how we got 1 Cup in near 80 years.

Get first rounders, get so many that you can afford to swing for the fences with picks like Kravtsov and K'Andre without worrying that you need a safe pick to make sure at least someone makes it.

Adding another 2 firsts is the difference between picking Kravtsov and K'Andre with big time potential vs playing it safe with Lias, Sundstrom and Malhotra.

It doesn’t matter what the return is for Zucc. Or Hayes.

You trade both guys and gain whatever assets that can help the rebuild. Even if it’s a measly ****ing 7th in the 2021 draft.

If the Rangers see either guy as a core player going forward, they can net whatever those players value is and then re-sign them in 4 1/2 months.

nah

You do that once and you'll never get value in a trade ever again. We have options, it'd be dumb and counterproductive to the rebuild to impose limits on ourselves.

C’mon dude..

Both players are clearly worth a heck of a lot more.

My point is Gorton shouldn’t nickel and dime his way trying to maxime their return. Even if for some reason he wants to bring either one of these guys back, you move them now and just re-sign then in a few months.

Hell, he’s being doing both players a favor by allowing them an opportunity of winning a Cup. It’s mutually beneficial for both sides.

If you're getting gamed out by buyers, you sign to a friendly, shorter contract with partial trade protections, and try again at the draft, or next year. You don't let other GMs get your assets without paying at least fair value. Or else you won't be rebuilding anything at all. Just selling off.

As talks continue, you should know that contract length is every bit as important to both the Rangers and impending free agents Kevin Hayes and Mats Zuccarello as the money and cap hit. Both players are seeking longer-term deals they almost certainly would command if they get to the open market. Management, for obvious reasons, would like shorter-term deals. It is still a much better bet the Rangers will trade both players rather than re-sign them. And if these negotiations do not come to fruition and either/both are dealt, the likelihood of a July 1 reunion would seem remote, indeed. No one is taking less on July 1 than he is on, say, Feb. 25

I’m really impressed with the development of Mika and Vlad. Aside from the really young guys who’ve been developing. Vlad and Mika are younger vets who have really raised their games by, like, a hundred percent.
In fact, nearly everyone on the team has gotten better. But those guys are particularly impressive as players don’t often get so much better at age 25-26.

That’s what Quinn was brought here to do, I think he’s had a major role in the development of quite a few of our young guys. The team has totally surprised me this year.

Hey man, you've always been good at compiling information and addressing these articles and sources from all over the place really well. But lately you've kinda devolved into mostly just being pissed off, trying to prove you were right where others were wrong (usually subjectively), and simply being uninformative. Maybe take a step back from this site - I'll miss your info and whatnot but you really don't seem to get anything good out of posting here anymore.

Use the ignore button.

I am not going anywhere. Nowhere.

Webbys been with out his mind for a while now.

Between that and someone questioning RB on the last page its like some of ya'll dont even read this board.

This board acts like the Rangers are some great organization. Never question them. Give them the benefit of the doubt. The Rangers have been in business since 1926 and they have 4 championships. They are going on one championship in 80 years. 80 years.

It's the Trump factor. Positive news. Trump loves it. The same news organization reports something negative. Fake news. Same thing here.

It's the same people all of the time. They are content with the Rangers being mediocre.

Sad.

Next season will be 80 years with one championship and I don't see many championships in their future by keeping the band together for another failed run.

It looks like Mark Stone will be available too. Kyper made a comment between the 2nd & 3rd period on the Canucks-Sharks game. Ottawa can't afford the signing bonus money.

Stone and Duchene will command more than the Rangers guys. Maybe a team doesn't want to meet the Ottawa asking price and they pay less for the Rangers players. It will probably have the same impact. Rentals don't have much an impact. Teams go for them every year with limited success. Winning the Cup is success.

The Rangers sat out Nash and Grabner last year with 3 games left before the deadline. The Rangers were at Montreal, home for Minnesota and Detroit. They traded Grabner after the Montreal game.

Do the Rangers sit out of their players again with three games left? Thursday at home for Minnesota, Saturday afternoon for NJ and at Washington next Sunday afternoon.

I don't know what the Rangers are going to do with Kreider. If you look at the 2020 free agent market, Kreider will be one of the top forward's available. Hall is the big player next year. Granlund. Galchenyuk. Coyle. Backstrom is a free agent. Gotta figure the Caps keep him. Hoffman. Toffoli. Dadonov. Schenn. Kreider will get paid. If decide to keep him and trade him as a rental next February, they will get a 1st and a prospect. They can get more now. Signed for one more season at a very good number.
