Gallant said nothing wrong here. Mika/Panarin/Kreider are all coasting and don't get physical.

Kreider has scored but his board game in non existent. I always point to game 6 vs. Ottawa in 2017. Where is that Kreider even at 50%?

I know Mika/Panarin/Strome are all finesse guys but c'mon, we've seen lines like Kissio-Ogrodnick-Mullen and Jagr-Nylander-Straka win board battles, and some of those guys were much smaller than any of the current guys.

Panarin has been pretty bad this year.
Kreider has been our best player and engaged all over the ice.

He wanted no part of NY as a UFA. His wife is a Texas girl. He signed in Canada's version of Texas.
I don’t believe that but will never know. Everyone thought he was locked in on Dallas, so I think it could have been anyone else that point.

idno if its still finding our way in what gallant is looking for as well as lines meshing - to be fair the rash of injuries has prevented much in the way of continuity there - but we still look every bit as scattered as the last few years coming up ice as a group.

massive, massive improvement in the way the team sticks up for each other, has an edge to them, plays physically, and defends in the neutral zone / in front of the net. all good things.

but coming up ice theres still very little in the way of coordinated efforts, and its everyone on the ice. the d haven't been good at engaging and taking ice before making a smart pass - too much rimming up the boards for a scrum or a free breakout - from either nz or behind our net - where they stand still which allows teams to not even defend them - and their partner standing still on the other side, also not requiring attention and existing as a release that has no reason to exist, while 2 outta 3 fwds eliminate themselves as options with awful lines on the outside. even when we have come up ice there's just no support or sensical options created to get a chance. gallant wants to see more chip and chase which, fine, but thats no different than carrying in the sense if you don't have speed coming at the forecheck with support and a plan to direct them into a turnover its just a full ice turnover. and we have a bad habit on those of being late getting in with f2 and f3 support which allows their d to get the puck up to a fwd right as our late forecheck flies by overpursuing and we're giving up numbers and a lot of open ice. and then even when we have had our spells of functional forechecking and possession we have been horrific at creating offense. getting shots blocked, stupid passes that are auto turnovers (i'm afraid to look at panarins numbers there), poor shots in general...we could probably count on one hand the number of shots taken on net from a spot a player can core from that have truly stressed a goalie. the big names aside from trouba, kreider, fox, igor have been absent in a big, big way as far as stressing teams defensively...they're not just not scoring, in a lot of cases they've been among the worst players on the ice.

the last thing that needs to be addressed is wtf is nils still doing in the lineup. almost every time we're hemmed in he's on the ice. he just can't compete defensively and he's not nearly good enough a skater to make up for it, nor creating anything offensively to stick in the lineup. he's a genuine liability. he's got some nice potential, but right now he's not even close to belonging. for the life of me i can't figure out how that spot hasn't at least seen some rotation w either a showcase of libor or getting jones a shot.

Everything was fine here until you put Ogrodnick and winning board battles in the same sentence. That has yet to happen.

Lol hive mind

No more first rounders in the top 10 - we do great in the middle and bottom of the first - both Millers, Lundqvist, Kreider, Skjei, Schneider, Chytil. Top of the first (not counting the no brainer picks) McIlrath, Lias, Kravtsov. If I've learned anything it's that we need to trade down if we have a pick higher than 11 or so. Then again, Clarke isn't calling the shots anymore, so this is all subject to change.

Disagree; he's scored a few PP goals which is nice, but he doesn't win board battles and hasn't cycled well. Where is that aspect of his game?

I'd say Blais has been the best overall forward.

Are you watching re-runs of last year?

Because all of that has been there for Kreider this year. This is coming from someone who has had no problem taking a steaming dump on him when hes deserved it.

NILS is still here because of arrogance and ego.

He's here because they don't want to be shuffling the young dmen around from location to location every 7 games if they can avoid it.

Also it's not as though any of the kids in Hartford have been blowing the doors off down there. Your debate is basically Lundkvist vs Hajek/Tinordi right now.

As bad as it sounds Lundkvist may very well be the worst of the 3 right now.

Disagree. Jones was noticeably better than Lundkvist imo. Even Schneider. But the organization has been touting this prospect as more ready than the others. Nils would be better off getting high minutes, refining his game, and growing in the AHL. It’s okay to admit that he is not at the level of where they thought. The true issue is now pretending like it isn’t an issue because in the end, he’s the one getting hurt because of it.

we’ve seen this before.

It could be, but he isn’t going to get t any better sitting on the bench.

If one of Jones or Schneider really start to impress they can flip but I’d ride with what we have for now.

I agree that Lundy didn’t earn the spot, but now that he’s here, I’d wait until one of the kids starts impressing in the AHL to do a swap.

If you start a carousel of kids going up and down every five games it’s not good for morale

Fair enough, I just think that Jone's puck moving ability would be able to help with our issues more right now. We are seeing a lack of puck moving from our backend and its causing our offensive and neutral zone problems.

I agree, he should be in the AHL. Nemeth also plays both sides, I think the majority of us agree it should be:

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Jones - Nemeth

Just won tickets to the Rangers/Kraken game Halloween night in Seattle. f***ing stoked. Get to see the Rangers and get to go to a game at the new Climate Pledge Arena.

People keep repeating this but I think it’s misunderstood. When people say Nemeth plays both sides of the ice, I don’t think they mean left and right. I think they mean he plays FOR both sides. As in he doesn’t care whose goal he’s assisting on.

My hot take on the defensive situation is that I think Nemeth could do just fine playing with Adam Fox. He isn’t as good as Lindgren but plays a very similar game.
