I can 100% see the "unconventional" thing being an offer sheet. Connor, Marner, Point all coming up. Laine? M. Tkachuk? Provorov?
Lots of big RFAs this offseason.

I argue that without all of the protection of the superstars Point will just be a really good not great player. And that would not be worth what he will get paid.Or Point, Tampa’s gotta run out of cap space at some point
I think we can get some nice returns. Had a very long chat this evening. Bobby Mac is pretty close to where it will land it appears. Hayes in the East, Zucc to the West it seems. Zucc will garner the most from a team with size. Retaining on Hayes will strengthen the return.
It also appears that the Rangers are saving money for something unconventional. Plus there is someone outside the usual suspects very likely to be dealt. I did not get this name - but have my suspicions. Gorton runs a very tight ship. For sure. Gotta respect that.
Just fyi, anything over 5 years works with the total dollar value divided by 5. That deal would hit the 4 1st rounders level.Kyle Connor. They could send a 7 year, $8.5 million yearly offer sheet and lose only a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd if Winnipeg doesn't match. Winnipeg matching puts them in a really tough spot with Laine and Trouba still to sign.
McDavid. It’s Gretzky to LA 2.0 for the league. Imagine the best player in the league playing for the biggest city in the league.I think we can get some nice returns. Honestly what would it cost? Edmonton would never get fair value for him because A) they’re incompetent morons, and B) it’s almost impossible to get fair value for a player like McDavid. You’re looking at Zibanejad, one or two of Chytil, Howden, Lias, maybe a Skjei or a Shattenkirk, plus picks. One can foolishly dream. This thought has crossed my mind.
Won't happen this summer. Maybe after another season and he says F it, I want out.

Not sure how this trade can be done in today's hockey. Remember Gretzky was traded mostly for money, can't do that today. Even if they would entertain it, I think it would require gutting the team of a lot of picks and good young players, and then you would just be the NY Oilers. Think of what it would take, my guess would be:This thought has crossed my mind.

Don’t pack lightly, it’s cold up in the North Pole.Rumors say Sharks, Flames and Preds also want Zucc. But if the Jets throw in their 1st I guess he heads that way.
Unless Slats gets soft and wants to keep him, he still pulls the strings around here, and he's a big Zucc fan.

The Brian Cashman model. This is why I want to stock pile talent over the next 2 drafts.
They won't all have a place here. The more ammunition you have, the better.

He’s obviously worth more than that but McDavid’s value is probably diminished due to the morons who run that team.If that's all it took I'd do it in about 3 seconds

It's 2019. Gorton has been in charge for almost 4 years now
But Slats is Gorton's boss, he can simply get involved and tell him not to trade a certain player.
