Getting a 2C and a 1D and we can compete while the kids develop and replace people when needed.

If we're going after Karlsson, Shattenkirk will most likely be moved.

2C, depending where our pick lands can be used to grab one in the draft or trade.. or you know bamboozle the league with getting good assets for Hayes and then signing him.

I'm feeling the Chapman vibe this deadline. Go get us our Gleyber Torres, Gorton.

The problem is the Rangers want a foundation piece back. McKenzie said the Rangers want a young foundation building block that’s very close to playing in the NHL or someone who is close to playing in the NHL. Are they getting that price for just one more season left on his contract?

I read Vegas is interested in Stone. Would they want Kreider? Is Brannstrom a foundation piece?
Carolina wants more goal scoring. Carolina is also interested in addressing their goaltending issues with a long term solution. They have all of those D. Three way D?

Columbus trades Panarin and takes those assets to replace Panarin’s goal scoring. The Bruins beat writer for The Athletic Fluto Shinzawa spoke to a few NHL executives and they think Columbus will ask for three pieces. 1st round pick. A high end prospect and a secondary prospect. Donato or Vaakanainen and Frederic plus #1. Is the Finnish D a foundation piece for the Rangers? Hayes fits Columbus too.

What is the Rangers interpretation of a foundation piece? They think Hajek will be a big time player. Who knows what they think?

It's funny too because I don't remember these semantics coming up much with the McDonagh negotiations, but in your example, the only player I'd say that has the potential to be a "foundational" piece is Brannstrom. If it came to it, I'd rather go for quality over quantity.

I just hope unconventional isn’t like a Leon draisaitl type move. Because I wouldn’t want that

Given that report about Huberdeau, what do people think about this?

Kreider + Georgiev

for

Huberdeau + Reimer

Florida clears cap, gets back a player that can replace Huberdeau, and they get a good young goalie to backup Bob (if they get him).

We get a player who is younger, more productive and cost controlled for longer. Reimer has 2 years left on his contract, which is in line with our other big contracts.

No. Kreider and Huberdeau are too close in value or performance to make it worth while for us. Even from FL perspective it should be someone even cheaper. To me it would have to be someone like Buchnevich and 2nd instead of Kreider.

Wasn’t Tolvanen a scorer in the KHL too?

Kaprizov is a heck of a hockey player. He is on a different level than most kids we discuss like they are the second coming.
I love Kaprizov as much as anyone but there are too many uncertainties (when is he coming? Is he coming at all? How will his game translate?) to trade someone like Zibanejad for him.

Huberdeau is 2 years younger, has 4 years left on his contract instead of 1, and is more productive. He's a much better fit for the rebuild. Florida would clear about 3.9 mil and get back a player who can help them now and next year. Maybe he re-signs there.

Wait what? Huberdeau has put up 50 or more points in 4 of the last 5 years and the 1 year he didnt he only played 36 games but had something like 29pts.

Hes also signed for 4 more years at $5.9MM. Hes also 2 years younger then Kreider.

Hes worth a ton more then Buch and a 2nd.

Is he outside the usual suspects? His name has come up in trade rumors, even if the Rangers are asking a heavy price. I take it to mean someone we haven't discussed.
I know we have discussed it but I’m not sure I’ve seen mainstream folks go there. He just seems to be a player we all would like to keep (caveat that the offer isn’t insanely good or what has become known as The Godfather proposal) and that would be almost unheard of anywhere else except here.

I hope I’m wrong. (Caveat not withstanding lol)

For the record, short of winning the lottery this year and signing Karlsson over the summer, this team is still just about locked in to have another top 10 pick next year. Sending an offer sheet out this summer would be stupid.
This... exactly.

Unless u can fix this defense in one off season (ridding yourself of multiple contracts with limited or outright no move clauses) this team will be the same or worse.

God forbid next year u have an injury keeping someone vital out for a long duration (knock on wood).

An offer sheet that involves our first next year would be moronic.

Huberdeau will only make the Rangers marginally better. Maybe even not if he won’t fit in the same way WE KNOW Kreider does. If we are helping FL that includes taking on Reimer then the trade should be a more clear win, not where Kreider goes the other way.

I think we can get some nice returns. Had a very long chat this evening. Bobby Mac is pretty close to where it will land it appears. Hayes in the East, Zucc to the West it seems. Zucc will garner the most from a team with size. Retaining on Hayes will strengthen the return.
It also appears that the Rangers are saving money for something unconventional. Plus there is someone outside the usual suspects very likely to be dealt. I did not get this name - but have my suspicions. Gorton runs a very tight ship. For sure. Gotta respect that.

I think Zucc could create some havoc in the land of the Giants. Stingy GM however.

Hayes to B's

Saving money on something unconventional? Maybe something around Names/Kassian

#89 is outside of the usual suspects.

And he'll be at most 4 seasons from UFA when he gets over.

Kreider for Huberdeau would be a big win for the Rangers and the Panthers certainly wouldn’t do it.

There's a rumor that he's available because they want to clear cap space. If we trade them Kreider and take back Reimer, they clear cap space and get a comparable player. Obviously they aren't going to do it 1 for 1, but I think there's a basis for a deal there.

Why do they even need to clear space though? They already have a bunch and will clear 8.5 in the offseason via McGinn Sheahan and Brassard. Shouldn’t they just trade Hoffman if they want to clear space as he’s older and signed for less years?

Probably, but the rumor exists.

Could be an ownership mandate like getting rid of Smith and JAM essentially was, especially if they’re going to have to shell out a mountain of bonus money for Bob and Panarin

They have $2.5m in space right now. I wouldn’t call that a “bunch.”

Casual reminder Hubardeau was a 3rd overall pick and is a good representation for a middle ground on a top 5 forward pick for the "mUsT dRaFt HiGh fOr eLiTe tAlENt" crowd

Yeah, Huburdeau is a really good player and definitely a good 3OA, but he’s not the elite player we need. He’s a pretty likely baseline for a 3OA.
