He makes 6.6m per and is 0+1 in his last 8 while being minus 4. Are you guys giving him the standard NYR UFA handicap/discount? ;) If a kid played like that he would be trashed pretty bad...

"He makes 6.6m per"... I don't care about that.
"while being minus 4"... that number isn't really that bad.
"If a kid played like that, he would be trashed pretty bad"... not by me he wouldn't.

Shattenkirk's been steadier in the D zone lately. His glaring turnovers have dropped to the minimum you expect from a guy like him.

Yeah, he's not providing the offense we really want from him. But there have been a lot of other times that he's been not providing offense and been a huge liability defensively too.

Horrible trade for the Rangers unless TB is giving us a ****load of assets with Callahan.
For starters, I want my 1st rounder. f*** you if you win the Cup, f*** you if you don't win the Cup, I'm done. That deal starts with them taking the condition off. If they're unwilling to do that, we hang up.

Shattenkirk has two more years. We hold serve.

I would absolutely trade him for a lesser cap dump, but I would need more convincing if that guy is Callahan.

I don't really get this. Callahan has 1 year left on his deal after this one. Sure, there are lesser cap dumps out there, but I wouldn't consider him a significantly large one.

Then again, I have no idea why Shattenkirk to TB makes sense to anyone. They can take on salary, but really only on a rental. They already have $73m tied up in 15 players for next season, with Point needing a significant raise.

Su
Schenn was moved to LW on a line with ROR & Tarasenko a few weeks ago and has played much better than he was at C. As good as that line has clicked I don't see them splitting it up. I don't like Bozak as the 2C but that's another story. The Blues players between Blais and Kyrou would be something like a Sanford, Sundqvist, Barbashev type which are already NHL ready.
nqvist although not fast, plays a pretty good game.

I'd want a lot more than that, retaining 50% on Shattenkirk for 3 playoff runs, plus taking on Callahan would be insane.

I'd go Shattenkirk with some retention % based on how good the other stuff coming back was with Callahan.

It has to be more than just making that 1st a guaranteed though, and it's not an additional 2nd either.

Callahan alone I'd want more than that, and while I don't see Shattenkirk as worth a lot I also don't see him as a pure cap dump which is how I view Callahan.

For 50% off Shattenkirk... a 2019 guaranteed 1st, 2020 1st, and some meh yet interesting prospect, Callahan and they can have their 2019 2nd back moves the needle for me though.

Also I just read that Brooks article

Guy flops more than a fish. He’s saying they need to trade Zucc a couple articles ago, now Zucc needs to stay.

Pick a side and commit Larry. I know you’re reading this

I will say Larry is dead on about Hartford. The front office should be embarrassed about how bad that situation is.

They’re the most valuable team in the league. They have the resources and dollars to make Hartford what the Marlies are to Toronto.

You need a strong AHL team. Hartford’s culture is that of a loser and it’s embarrassing

The important thing here is that taking Callahan is a gift, and we should negotiate as if it's a gift.

He adds no value to the Rangers. I don't wanna hear about leadership. I want our leaders teaching our young players how to dominate, not how to be a 4th liner and run out of position to hit and block.

Callahan definitely embodies the concept of sacrifice and that can be good for our young players, but you're absolutely right... Tampa needs to pay us for taking him on and it needs to be significant.

Tampa should be targeting a RHD like Nick Jensen, not Kevin Shattenkirk, IMO. Could be a good buy low/under the radar depth pick up. They don't need Shattenkirk. But if they want to acquire him and dump Callahan on us for a pretty hefty haul, I'm down.

He also embodies the concept of jumping ship and holding teams hostage, so no Id rather keep him far away from our kids.

Lets trade with some teams who don't lead the NHL in points by 13, eh? There's a lot of them.

What are some teams that are good candidates to regress? Who is playing over their head? Let's target their 2020 draft picks.

I am referring to all the posts going something like "We can't trade Shatty since he took less to sign here".

You're taking those posts out of context. You wanted him gone after less than half a season, you don't do that with someone who took a discount, terrible optics when it was by all accounts not a bad fit. At this point moving him is fine in that regard.

There are other reasons I'd keep him now, namely that he is a solid stopgap for 2 more years

Just keep Shatty and see where we are this time next year. Retaining and taking Callahan takes away a lot of flexibility. Would only leave one retention spot for this deadline and next.

Is taking off the condition on the 1st along with a 2nd and Raddysh enough for that rentention and Callahan’s hit? Maybe, I don’t know.

As well as $3.325 million in absolutely dead cap space for the following two seasons.

Why don't we actually just try holding on to Shatty for another year? At this time next year there potentially be a lot more suitors for him knowing they will have him for 2 playoff runs. Teams are ALWAYS looking for right handed defenseman no matter the style the play. Im all about trading Shatty, never wanted him, never was a fan. This year I just don't think he holds enough value. Don't see why a team wouldn't want to trade for him for 2 playoff runs at as little as 3.33 million. I even see potentially Staal could be moved. If Girardi can get 3 mill a year for 2 seasons, Someone will take Staal at half off for 2 seasons. I know its a trade, but the Rangers wouldn't ask for much back. Its basically a cheaper buyout.

Would that be a bad thing if their idea is to use that space on something similar to McQuaid plus McLeod for the next two seasons?
