I will say Larry is dead on about Hartford. The front office should be embarrassed about how bad that situation is.

They’re the most valuable team in the league. They have the resources and dollars to make Hartford what the Marlies are to Toronto.

You need a strong AHL team. Hartford’s culture is that of a loser and it’s embarrassing
Company man Ken should have been Jimmy Hoffa’d a long time ago

Lets trade with some teams who don't lead the NHL in points by 13, eh? There's a lot of them.

What are some teams that are good candidates to regress? Who is playing over their head? Let's target their 2020 draft picks.

Agreed. It's a gamble considering you don't know who will be bad by then but being able to pull off something similar to what the Avalanche did to the Senators would be ideal. If CBJ decides to "go for it" they would be a team I would target. Maybe Minnesota?

It is very easy to rebuild this team.

Trade Hayes, Kreider, Zuccarello, Namestnikov, Strome, and Vesey.

Buyout Staal.

Trade Pionk for a bag of pucks.

Sign Franson. Sign Nakladal. Sign Karlsson. Sign Panarin. Re-sign Zuccarello. Re-sign Hayes.

Trade Lias to BUF for Mittelstadt.

Defense 32M:
Skjei Karlsson
Smith Nakladal
Claesson DeAngelo
Franson

Forwards 40M:

Panarin Zibanejad Zuccarello

Chytil Hayes Buchnevich

Meskanen Mittelstadt Fast

Gropp Howden Beleskey

Goalies (10M):
Lundqvist
Georiev

Those are moves that can be done this offseason. You're telling me that wouldn't be a contender? This doesn't need to be a 3-5 year rebuild.

Why would a team in a bad cap spot, that needs to keep a bunch of the top 30 or top 50 or whatever it is players in the league together and give them some cheap friends, be interested in the Kevin Shattenkirk contract

Congrats, you built a team that gets ousted in the 2nd round.

They wouldn’t

Also Shatty won’t waive , doubt Staal does too . Try and move Smith and McQuaid

Just keep Shatty and see where we are this time next year. Retaining and taking Callahan takes away a lot of flexibility. Would only leave one retention spot for this deadline and next.

Is taking off the condition on the 1st along with a 2nd and Raddysh enough for that rentention and Callahan’s hit? Maybe, I don’t know.
Just was gonna post the same thing.
Shattenkirk + pick for Cally+1st 2019+2nd 2019+Raddysh

Why would TB even want Shattenkirk? His best skill is his ability on the PP and they already have Hedman on the top unit and Sergachev on the second. That doesn't seem like a fit at all.

They need a D who can actually shutdown, not a PP specialist. Also, they are looking to shed cap, so taking on a 6 million plus contract really makes no sense either.

Is it illegal to trade a player, and then trade them back but with salary retained?
Example, Tampa trades us Callahan for future considerations. We trade Callahan back at 50% retained and Tampa gives us a 1st or 2nd round pick (as an example).
I imagine Bettman would not be happy but is there anything that stops two teams from doing something like this?

Nothing really new there. Zucc's value improving because of his play is no surprise and a 2nd and a prospect is what most of us figured he'd get when all is said and done. Some fluff about the Rangers holding onto them if they can't get the right deal, which I doubt is on the table unless there's absolutely no market.

No market yet until we know what Ottawa is doing. Probably no trades until the final day.
