IMO, with a healthy Eichel the NYR are in a significantly better position over this window vs giving Zibanejad a UFA deal.

Obviously healthy being the critical word. And so will not be too critical of a decision either way on Eichel.

I think he’s shown enough that they keep him. Outside of his finishing, he looks pretty good. Rather give up on him in a few months if he shows nothing compared to right now.

Injuries will happen, healthy scratches will happen, he will get his looks.

If what biron is saying about the Sabres having to take money back to get to the floor Strome really makes SO much sense for them. They can flip him at the deadline for more assets including the ones they get from us in kravtsov Jones first rounder etc. that’s a no brainer. Can anyone else do that? Offer up a UFA to be that can bring back legit assets as a rental?

he’s earned a roster spot at least, he may not play everyday but he’s earned a spot on the 23 man roster

Especially with Reaves potential injury, no way they risk losing Gauthier

If they trade for Eichel and he’s not ready by the deadline I’m not so sure.

Unless the team is so far out of the playoff race that it doesn’t matter if they have no 1C, going into a playoff chase with no top center isn’t likely to work out

And imagine if Strome is part of the Eichel deal? You can’t trade Mika and than have Chytil be your 1C and hope Eichel is back soon going into the playoffs

That’s why if Drury wants Eichel it needs to be done now, so he can have the surgery and plan what they’ll do with Mika. What I mentioned isn’t an ideal outcome but it’s a possibility

zibs would only get traded at deadline if team was out of contention. If team is battling for playoffs and u trade zib bc you dont want him to walk, u would lose the locker room. Unless u got someone to immediately replace him and keep the team in contention. Trading him for futures would gut the room.

Its not a video game where players and coaches don’t have feelings.
