Given that I do not believe we have enough to win a Cup right now, yes, my worry is about winning in the future.

I believe we have almost everything in order for a window, the young FWDs and D just need a little bit more seasoning and experience.
I'm banking on Kaapo cementing himself as a 1st liner this season, Laf sooner than later too.

Once this window closes, we will simply try to tank again.
In 6 years all of the current vet core will have gone belly up. Chytil, Kaapo, Fox and Laf (and Co.) will get their second window after that.

Well so then you understand the angst that we've now thrown away Lias Andersson, Tony DeAngelo, Pavel Buchnevich, and Vitali Kravstov, and not a single one of those pieces was parlayed into a top 6 center or even top 6 forward.

When a smart team would have been able to package any or all of them at the right time for another stud.

Not saying it was foreseeable entirely, but think about for a second what a package of Andersson, DeAngelo, Buch and Kravtsov brings you at the 2020 draft.

Every team has misses. Turning Andersson into Cuylle appears to have been a good move. Buch for Blais + 2nd to me it’s tat bad of a deal. We’ll see what Kravtsov brings back

so if they trade for Larkin/Lindholm. Or sign Hertl in the offseason we’re back on schedule? we both know we’re not a finished product.
If I had my way,
Strome would be gone, chytil would have all year at 2C duties to see if he can take over/or we need to upgrade.

I'm not entirely sure those names are good enough. Hertl I'm not a fan cause he's already 27. I'm more interested in someone who can be elite when Kakko and Laf are 25 and 26.

If Larkin has another level to reach, maybe, but in my mind he's more of a 2C.

Historically speaking, we do not.

Even if Kakko and Laf pan out, we need another first line caliber forward.

Let's not go full Buffalo here.
It's obvious he feels offended or something, and wants to leave the organization for good. Now it's up to Drury to follow in the footsteps of Holland with the Puljujärvi situation. Look for a trade that benefits the Rangers, don't just give him away. If he wants to play in the meantime, he's free to play in Hartford or Russia until the matter is solved.

I'm confused. We're talking about the present and the future, right?

Bread? Zibs? Did they dissappear? This window is with these guys. Once the vets are out we'll have to draft that 3rd 1st line player.

Or are you looking at six 1st line players?

If we assume Kakko and Lafreniere reach legit first line level while Panarin and Zibanejad are still elite, and also that Kreider remains a top 6 player and Chytil becomes a top 6 player, we are still short one top 6 forward from Dom L's "Average Championship Contender."

Which is not a hard and fast rule, more of a guideline, but if anything I think Panarin/Zibanejad amount to a little less than the elite duos that usually win Cups like Crosby/Malkin or Kane/Toews.

I don't think there's a question that Panarin/Zibanejad is a step down from those duo's. I just don't know that Zibanejad is good enough as the #1 center to win a cup. We definitely are relying on Lafreniere and Kakko reaching their ceilings.

Nobody would bet on us winning a Cup, but honestly, if you hooked Gallant to a lie detector I would be surprised if you didn’t come away with the knowledge that he thinks we have a shot this year. Objectively, we should basically have a better chance than his Vegas team that made the finals.

But, it of course comes down to us putting it together on the ice. Getting 4 lines than can play, a PP, a PK, goaltending.

We are downright great in many areas, but we also just gift wraps many wins to opposing teams. You can’t get success by fixing the later by taking away the former like Quinn tried, but we must cut away on turn overs. Definitely cut down on illadvised risk taking, but also just execute high risk plays much better.

We haven't even played a game yet this season...

We are a more complete team than last year with our young guys theoretically progressing and Igor healthy. We have a high chance for success this year.

I wonder if this all goes back to the heart rate thing in Hartford a couple of years ago

I like the ask, good to start high - but realistically, I'd be happy getting back a real strong ultra competitive 3rd line RW who can play both sides of the puck, preferably a RHS who can put some pucks in the net a la Leblanc from the Sharks and can move up and down the lineup. (only 25 and happens to be from the NY area, played for the Colonials).

Even if you have to throw in one of the d prospects or a pick to sweeten the pot. I would almost over pay to get the right type of player in here who's young and cost controlled for a few seasons.

Jones, Kravsov for Leblanc and a 3rd. He's signed for 3 years 4.725. The kid can play and actually score at this level and can pass the puck. 39 helpers one year. Put him along side Chytil and Goodrow.

Bring him home.

Pretty likely if it was also a dispute about his conditioning this offseason

Apparently the team asked about his offseason training plan in the exit interview, and he took that as a sign he was going to be traded somehow.

That seems like a pretty normal exit interview question to me though :dunno:

Pretty set in stone that we're not winning a Cup this year, yes.

And there's the problem with guys like you. The Rangers could make the playoffs this year and win a round when they get there, and you'll declare it a non-successful season because they didn't win the cup. Shit, they could win the cup, and you'd still probably say pump the breaks everybody, pizza boy didn't build a Dom approved multi cup winning contender.

Let me break this down for you...it will help you understand yourself a bit better, and allow the rest of us enjoy opening night. Ready...

You don't like Chris Drury.

That's all this is. So you're going to root against the team in the hope that pizza boy gets fired, and someone else comes in and starts a re-re-rebuild more in line with yours and Big Dom's philosophies. You're going to twist every dumbass stat you can into evidence of your rightness, and if the Rangers do fall short of whatever moving target you set forth as a goal for them, you'll crow about being right on a message board.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with this. I agree with none of the substance of what you're saying, but if you want to root against the team for whatever reason...go ahead and be a fan however you want. But for f*** sakes give it a rest until the team has played a few games. Rooting for the team to step on its collective dick on opening night because you don't like the asset management is really really not reading the room.

I also think we have 3-4 guys in the farm system that can really pop and become more then what their expected to be
I've been thinking about it....

How does trading assets and signing Larking at $6-7M or signing Hertl for $7M make sense? We're not signing Strome because he would 'cost too much'.

If Strome signs something similar to RNH, he might be here long term.
