that's an unreasonable ask.
It's not at all unreasonable. I think this notion that we have too much talent already is our scarred past of not ever having elite forward talent in spades, mixed with a bit of homerism that doesn't want to see our favorite players get the boot.
How many teams have 4-5 capable top9 centers?
Who needs 5?
I'm saying I'd like one more really good one. Someone who, at least like Chytil, projects to be a good 2C.
If not someone on the roster now, someone in the pipeline for 2 years out.
That depth is ultra important to building a long-term winner. Not trying to "just win one," frankly.
You said yourself Strome is likely to be a self rental, that implies he's gone.
So what, our future center depth is just Zibanejad-Chytil-Barron?
Even if Barron pans out, I don't think it's very reasonable to project him as more than kind of an average third liner. That's a prime spot for a long term upgrade that gives you 2C flexibility and a dominant edge.
We also have the assets to improve it, so there's really no reason to object unless you are emotionally tied to giving Barron the spot for some reason. Not arguing for Jack Eichel or Dylan Larkin on the third line here, talking about overpaying in some of your defensive assets to get a young top 6 guy.
