Speculation: Roster Building Thread - Part XXVI

From my POV, Kakko and Kravy are better fits with Ziba — and Laf with Panarin and Strome — than vice versa.

Kreider can be a good fit with Ziba too, especially if “new” Kreider mix it up more. I am all for spreading out the talent, ultimately I wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up with a bit different structure than we have seen in the top 9.

It won’t get a ton of love, but I would actually like to see something like:
Kravy-Ziba-Kakko
Panarin-Laf-Strome
Kreider-Chytil-Goodrow
Blais-Rooney-Reeves

It will be Fox as captain this season . Not my preferred choice . LOL....it won't be Gauthier. Him hiding behind an official during a scrum[Isles game] will not endear him to Turk Gallant . Geesh....softest big guy in the league . He could have grabbed somebody in that scrum easily enough and manhandled almost any of the Isles and made himself an opening night player if he had of done so....but he thinks he is a sniper . Him and Kreider playing physical almost every other night with this kind of roster & we get to the final 4 .....it's that simple. They don't have to fight...which neither one can do anyways ....but play physical before and after the whistle and were very good .

Smart money has us at 5/6th in the Conference. Not too far behind Boston and the Piles.

Wonder if they’ll name the captain today

Mika signing his deal yesterday moves him up to strong contender but if it’s true they want to make Laf captain at some point, Trouba is probably the guy for now

Trouba is burdened enough with his own feet, he doesn’t need anything else weighing him down

Might be less popular but I still say I hope it’s Fox. He’s so even keeled. I like that in a captain. Obviously the talent and contribution on the ice can’t be disputed. Plus he’s a New York kid who loves being here.

I feel like we still need a center.

I know Zibanejad - Chytil - Barron is fine, but it's just that.... fine.

Getting one more Chytil or Chytil+ center that would really be in our best interests. Center depth wins.

We've got excess defenders.

One more young top 6 caliber center who can form an elite C trio and insulate against Zibanejad premature injury or decline. Obviously someone cheap, on a rookie deal, etc.

I think you’re underestimating both barron and Chytil.
Barron has a skill set that I think he can be 2c if he hits his ceiling, and with the talented wingers we have I could absolutely see that.

I think that's a little too high for Barron. That's not to say he couldn't slide in as a 2C at some point depending on injuries and whatnot but I thin the projects more as a 3rd line C. I've compared him to Goodrow and Jenner in the past. Both guys who can move up and down but are probably 3rd liners on deep teams, although provide more value than a typical 3rd liner for various reasons.

that's an unreasonable ask.

We have Strome this year to bridge the gap. This is a big season for Chytil. The keys will be handed to him or should we say, 'it's his for the taking', by next season. Barron and Goodrow can hold down the 3C position.

Strome is all but certain to be self-rented, even if Chytil proves he's ready for more.

How many teams have 4-5 capable top9 centers?

We won't need a top 6 center after Chytil does a cleveland steamer on all of the doubters this season.

I think he more compares with someone more like hayes, starts out physical and more on the defensive side, and adds points eventually.

I don't think it's going to be Zib. If It were, it would have been nice to announce it yesterday with his extension.
