While Eichel is highly unlikely at this point, I will say that he also cannot be completely ruled out. I think there is a decent likelihood the Rangers keep lurking and see how the market goes (which is smart and what they should be doing).

If, and once again this is highly unlikely, the Sabres don’t love what’s out there and like the Rangers system they could come back and offer to retain salary to get a deal done. I don’t see that happening, but it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility either.
Yeah. The thing with Eichel is they could LTIR him this year and even have him for the (if it happens) playoffs and kick the salary cap can down the road.

So if the idea was to trade VK and a non-Schneider D for a solution at C in Eichel since we won't be able to afford all the young kids plus a 1C, what do we do with the extra RW and D now that we have Mika and are stuck with CK/JT? Option 1 is get sneaky and clever to float by the year 3 years away when we'll be in pain before NMC turns to NTC and the cap rises big time. What's option 2 as far as trading these players for something more cap friendly? Bridge them and trade them for younger prospects+pick?

I mean vk is fine where he is. Gauthier is the odd man out in this scenario, and we could package him w Hajak for maybe a conditional 3rd or something.

we’re not cap strapped by keeping the kids, and we can still make trades if we want, if we have injuries, or we can call kids up if it’s a defensive injury.

Yeah but if he’s only included in the lineup to fight why not just play him at forward

He's not just in there to fight. During preseason at least, he's handled himself pretty well as a D against the heavier teams. It gives the team more options on the PK as well to have both Tinordi and Nemeth in the lineup.

As much as I want to see Lundkvist or Jones getting playing time, I don't hate the idea of dressing Tinordi and Nemeth against the heavier teams early in the season. The pace picks up between preseason and regular season so there will be an adjustment for Lundkvist. I could see tinordi dressing game 1. Lundkvist game 2.

I think I may just be impatient because I really like lundkvist

Gotta say it's nice to have clarity heading into the season. We can put the Eichel thing to bed just about, Mika is extended, this is the team for the next half decade. Excited for score board watching. Good on Drury to not drag things into trade deadline week.

With the way Chytil played vs the Isles, do you think he'll get some PP time even if Strome is healthy?

He scored a hattrick and I had no idea he could shoot it that well!

We need more lefties that can shoot one timers, not less. He should be groomed with PP time so he can take Strome's spot easily after the season.

Id prefer laf taking that PP spot. Laf has a much better shot than chytil.

Chytil, Kravtsov or Kakko should have that spot on the PP IMO.

for whatever reason, Laf doesn't like playing on the right side.

Laf practically never takes one timers or slap shots though. I’d rank the shots:

One timer/Slapshot
1) Kravtsov
2) Chytil
3) Kakko
4) Lafreniere

Wrist shot
1) Lafreniere
2) Kravtsov
3) Chytil
4) Kakko

Snap shot
1) Kravtsov
2) Chytil
3) Lafreniere
4) Kakko

Backhand
1) Lafreniere
2) Kakko
3) Kravtsov
4) Chytil

Kravtsov has the quickest release & most deceptive shot of them by far, I think he is the ideal guy to play on the right circle. He also has the best slapshot and one timer by far. Chytil also has a fast release. Lafreniere has a more slow release but very powerful. Kakko has the slowest release but I think it was also a hesitancy about shooting, so might be fixed with confidence

Tinordi is a terrible player and should play zero games this season - including if someone is hurt and has to miss a game. Unfortunately, I'm sure that will not be the case.

This is dumb stat ridden take as per usual.
He played a solid game last night and was one of the better dman all game long..

Kakko needs to be on the top line.
This is a no brainer decision and see no reason why he isn't playing top wing over Kreider
