Larry negotiating through the media for Slats again. The only way the Rangers will trade for Eichel is if Buffalo retains a significant amount of salary. This isn't the first we've heard of this.

Pass on the youngest Nylander. He stinks.

For free, Brown and MacEachern are both work a claim if they even get to the NYR. California teams likely claim both.
I'd like to take the chance on Brown, but 1) I don't think he'd reach us in the waiver wire and 2) we'd have to keep him on the NHL roster and don't really have a spot for him. Nylander would be worth taking a shot on in a prospect-for-prospect trade, but he'd run into the same issue of having no space on the roster.

I'm very anti Eichel for a number of reasons, but I agree that saying Zibby is flat out better is wrong. Zibby is the better goal scorer, but that's pretty much the only area where he has the edge.

Even the better goal scorer is questionable. Eichel had a 36 goal season in 19-20 in 68 games. For the sabers. With no one passing him the puck.

Give him Panarin on the powerplay feeding him and a healthy Eichel might push 55 goals.

Larry is either doing a phenomenal job of carrying water for the org to drive Eichel’s price down or he is senile. There’s no universe Buffalo is retaining 40/50% on Eichel, why even bring it up

And then there’s this, which is just totally absurd

He must be getting this from the team, this is just flatly false if both are healthy
Either he’s just making shit up, which is par for the usual course. Or whatever source/sources he still has inside are leaking him stuff to make him sound outrageous.
I’m guessing its a message to Buffalo In a misguided way about the prospects/players we’d let go for him, and how the rangers value them internally.
Cap space for the next 2-3 years is at a real premium, so maybe it’s a shot across the bow to Adams to get a 3rd team involved in the trading process, one that can eat some cap space to facilitate a trade getting down with maybe buffalo getting a bit better value back, but nothing crazy.
At this point, 6 months later, the cards are pretty much on the table between Adams and Drury about who he’d give up and who he won’t. This could be a kick in the ass to get adams to get creative on the financial side of things

Going to be a nice 4 line rotation with Blais moving up when someone starts slacking.

So torn on Eichel. BUF would have to retain a good amount of money (and/or get another team involved to retain some money) and the exchange of pieces would have to be favorable to the Rangers. Because you pretty much wouldnt get him back until playoffs at this point. And at the juncture you dont know how he will look coming back.

In addition, Eichel is due a big bonus and his NMC will be kicking in. His value will only go down at this point. In the end this is the Pegula’s own doing. They caved to his contract demands. They were worried about him walking and not being able to keep a star player in Buffalo. They paid him the AAV AND they gave him the NMC. Yes, they did not see Covid and a flat cap for a period of time to follow coming, but hockey insiders have said they handled those negotiations poorly.

I am in the Larkin/Hertl/Bergeron (if Boston falls on its face) camp. Malkin could be another deadline target.

I do find it funny that Zac Jones was one of the reported pieces in an potential Eichel deal, and now that Buffalo is loaded on the left, the Rangers are having Jones play on the right lol

It won’t come to that imo

Buffalo will get an ok to decent return that may end up being good. They were never going to get a great to home run return like the team and fans were expecting though

Dahlin also very comfortable on the right. I think he prefers it actually. I have no idea if Buffalos plans are to keep him there or make him a LD in their long range plans. Especially since adding Power

It is definitely not questionable

Not really. Zibby has a better slap shot. But it’s really not in a different realm then Eichel’s. Eichel can light the lamp with the best in the league.
With better line mates and a shoot first mentality, Eichel would score a ton of goals here. His wrist shot is lethal and accurate. Prob has the edge over Zibby in that area tbh. He’s also a better skater

damn. It’s great to keep Zibby in the fold, but 8 years is terribad.
I’m guessing Drury finally relented on the 8th year instead of 7 to get the cap down under 9-9.5.
6 years was an absolute pipe dream Larry. We would have loved it but it was never in the realm of possibility.
Congrats Zibby. You earned a raise. Hopefully this doesn’t become an albatross when he turns 33-34. Hopefully the cap increase in 3 years is pretty big.

I wonder if this completely eliminates us from Eichel now, or Drury is still looking for creative ways to fit him under the cap????

The rangers got a good deal for Mika. The years don't really matter and I'm sure the front office sees it that way too. He'll be LTIR his last years for sure.

I know the cap is going to be flat the next three years or so as the players pay back from last year, but is there a projection about what the cap will jump to once that's paid off?

Does the ZBad deal mean we will need to bridge Fox instead of giving him a long term deal? Looking at capfriendly, we no longer have any cap flexibility.

Thats gonna depend likely on the next Canada deal, and other things we won’t get.
The espn and tnt numbers weren’t huge jumps.

The last few years won't be as of a deal since the cap will be up substantially by then. Good move. 1c's don't grow on trees.

Any talk about Eichel needs to stop now. And I'm not just talking about the Zib contract.

We are oozing skill in our lineup. And we have more than enough guys right now that thrive with the puck on their stick and having possession -- Kakko, Zib, Panarin, Laf, Krav, Fox.

What we likely will need is consistent cap room to ensure strong bottom six forwards who can play throughout lineup when nec but also play really well away from the puck.

Eventually, a true bottom six center who can shut down opponents and win big faceoffs may need to be acquired. Maybe Barron becomes that? I don't know. I think Chytil's game is closer to a top 6 C than a shut down guy.

If we had a dominant bottom 6 center like that and continue to find solid complimentary players the sky is the limit.

But -- I am starting to believe the key to the season is going to be our D zone play. If our D corp comes together and can play solid late in games we can make a run. But I'm skeptical. We'll see.
