Freidman tweeting that a barkov extension seems imminent.
There goes plan A. There was little to no hope of Barkov intending on going to Free Agency with the turn around the panthers have made.
They have an owner that will spend now, and a GM whose made some savvy trades/UFA signings and has drafted well in the last 2-3 years

How was that ever Plan A
Lol Until signing on the dotted line, we were praying he’d be intent on heading to Free agency, though the odds were slim. If the panthers sucked last season, I think it would have had a better shot.
I’m sure Barkov wants to play playoff hockey and not waste his prime and compete for a cup. The hope was that the panthers would suck enough to push him into going into free agency.
be the moves they made, and the way they played last season, Barkov likely feels like the panthers are going in the right direction and he can win there

How was it "Plan A" if it had "little to no hope"?

Don’t think Barkov was ever realistic but it was nice to dream

Either Mika or Eichel is gonna be the 1C for this team moving forward

Wonder how much fans are gonna complain when Kreider isn’t named captain in the next few days, especially after the Devils game

Larry said this morning in his article he expects it to be Trouba. Micheletti said earlier this week he thinks it’s better. Trouba and Fox

If Barkov made it to FA, Drury issues him a blank check.
A few of us were having a convo of how the rangers would address their center situation going into the offseason.
Obviously, if Barkov made it to FA, he’d be the ideal option.
I did not think there was a large chance it would happen, but that’s what I was referring to.
The most realistic options are resigning Zibby or trading For Eichel... almost everyone on the board knows this. The post was meant more as a joke then anything

Barkov 8 years and $10 million per.

Mika should be at 8 years and $8.5 in that case. Although the Florida taxes competitive advantage strikes again. League needs to do something about that.

Nobody lets #1 centers walk away which is why it’s laughable to think the Rangers will let Mika go.

Yeah can't imagine Zibanejad gets less than that.

I mean, that's just a killer contract for us to have to give him.

I'll tell you what the league has to do, it has to give teams some flexibility to get it's players paid but also some relief to teams who might want to move on when the player can't perform anymore.

That's insurance for the player - they get their money - but the team has cap space to maneuver.

There has to be some kind of system that can accomplish both.

We can all complain about the state taxes, but let's not pretend that we have an advantage as well with New York being a lucrative destination. See Panarin, Fox. I think the salary cap could use some revamping, but the state taxes are literally one of the smallest issues it has. The bigger issue is the lack of advantage to sign you drafted players, or players who have been with the team for a long time. I think there should be a certain percentage that is removed from those contracts cap hits. It rewards drafting well, and it also rewards teams for signing long term deals. The biggest problem this league has is the fact that you really can't be super competitive forever. It's a damn shame what is happening with Tampa. They have drafted so well, gained good free agents and now they have to throw players over board every year to fit under the cap. It shouldn't have to be that way.
