best of luck to any team that takes the two as a package deal....especially in years 3-8 of goalie bob deal

I will say that if we aren’t picking Top-3 or so that we will have another chance next season because I just don’t see us being any better next year.

I don’t see how this defense gets improved in one off season.

I'm actually okay with that should it happen organically.

I know that term is sort of cliche, yet I think overall as long as they draft/develop well, trade well, are careful with their signings, and they do not try to speed up the process, things will go pretty well for them. No guarantees that ultimately rewards them with a championship caliber team, but that is no different regardless of how they went about roster construction.

So is the general consensus here that if the team doesn't end up with the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft that this season was a failure?

As the guy who may have kicked off this debate, I wouldn’t say so. Lottery alone makes that too hard to pin down.

I’m with @Ola though, I really want a swing at Turcotte. He just feels like that big riser, like Johansen, Pettersson, etc.

And I do think that a pick after, to pick an arbitrary #, 7, in a rebuilding year would be super disappointing.

Bob is an amazing goalie but he's already showing signs that his body is breaking down. He'll be 31 when the new deal starts.

Plus the dude has crapped his pants every time he's been in the playoffs. He's been atrocious every time.

Good luck indeed.

Not from my vantage point. I think the Rangers end up at least top 7 if not top 5. I’m more concerned that Gorton finds a way to add two more 1sts. If the Rangers come away with Cozens, or even Turcotte, plus another highly-skilled wing and a Dman like Soderstrom, I am completely satisfied.

Jeffy might have to trade Kreider to get an extra 1st as part of the deal. McKenzie brought up Kreider’s availablity in his podcast yesterday. Gorton is listening to offers for Chris.

The Rangers don’t have many players left to trade to acquire a 1st round pick. Hopefully, Gorton can get two first round picks for Hayes & Zuccarello.

Zucc is a perfect fit for them. Skilled RW to play with Krejci that has some chippiness to his game. A guy they could extend and keep around for a reasonable price. A lot of their fans want Stone but no way Ottawa deals him to a team in their division without a premium.

Senyshyn is a guy I like for Zucc. He gets crapped on a lot but I see a lot of young Chris Kreider there. Big winger who skates like the wind and can score but isnt that well rounded in the rest of his game. He's scored as many goals in 40gp this year as he did in 66 last year. Is 13 goals in 40 games a lot? No, but Kreider had 12 in 48 in the AHL at the same age.

Bring him in and let Kreider mentor him and it could pay major dividends.

Frankly I'd be more interested in either of Frederic or Donato and maybe Boston adds a 3rd as well.

Florida is the perfect fit for Panarin and Bobrovsky. The Panthers aren’t finished moving out money. Mike Hoffman could be available. Friedman and McKenzie have mentioned that this week. Maybe they move him out in the summer.

Columbus and Theofanous have a bad relationship. Bad blood from the Bob contract talks from a few years ago.

I would be shocked if we signed Panarin at this point.

I think teams like Florida (obviously) and Buffalo would be intrigued by signing both Bob and Panarin. I don’t know Buffalo’s cap situation but it’d fill two needs for sure.

Panarin the exact player Nashville needs (I mean who doesn't need a Panarin) a gamebreaking elite forward. They are a very deep and solid team but lack that gamebreaking type forward. He could be the missing piece for Nashville and I'd say they should go all in for him.

I listened to that podcast. Bob said that he doesn't think the Rangers will trade Kreider or that they are interested in trading Kreider, but because he's rebuilding Gorton will listen to offers on any player. McKenzie made it sound like it's very unlikely.

I'd assume Kreider doesn't get traded unless some team offers Gorton a first, a top grade A prospect and more. Considering how NHL GMs seem to sit on their hands and clutch their pearls these days over giving up anything in trades, I'm going to guess Kreider doesn't get moved.

Exactly my sentiment. Kreider isn't going to move unless Gorton gets his doors blown off by an offer. Something like Nylander and Liljegren for Kreider from Toronto.

Thats exactly how i heard it.

I am not sure I expect them to move Kreider either, yet I do think given his pending UFA status and what I believe will be diminished return value should they not do so before this deadline, as well as his increased negotiating leverage should the Rangers be faced with sign this or trade him for those diminished returns, it should be considered.

Agreed, think that it's unlikely at this point we sign, and if it really is a package deal then obviously there is less than 0 chance we get him.

Here’s the link to the stream if it hasn’t been posted yet

Bob and Panarin to Florida would be huge. Not only because it takes two major FAs out of play but because it'd probably trigger additional moves for the Jackets to bring in a starter and another forward.
