My point was just, at the end of the day you can’t stay away from all contracts and ice a competitive team. Look at Boston, Chicago, LAK, Washington and so forth.

For me Kreider’s contract term don’t matter. The only relevant question is if Kreider will play at this level for like 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 more years? Blake Wheeler is setting new personal records every day. He is 33. Others fall off a cliff when they are 28. 2-4 and he should be moved ever if he would take 5m per for 5 years, 5-7 years and I think he should be kept even if it takes 6-7m per for 6-7 years unless we get some insane offer. Which is it?

I agree they need to be careful about term but like you said, each player is different. 32 years old is not the same for every player in this league. I have no idea what the Rangers will offer or what his agent will ask for but if there is a fair deal to be made for both sides I say lock him up and throw the "C" on his jersey. You have your top line LW locked up for the next 5 years. Him and Zib have been great, why screw that up when there's so many other roster needs to tend to?

Is something around Kreider for Nylander that crazy?

Nylander hasn’t been lighting the world on fire since returning and earns approx what Kreider will earn on his next deal.

Kreider earns significantly less now which will help w/the Marner squeeze this summer and Kreider arguably gives the Leafs a better shot to win this year and next.

NYR get that “foundational piece.”

It would be really dumb if Minnesota is a buyer at the deadline. Dumba and Koviu are done for the season. They have a barren prospect pool.

They should sell and trade Eric Staal to recoup some picks and a prospect. And if they make the playoffs at that point, sure whatever, they will lose in the 1st round like they always do. But really dumb if they spend assets for smoeone like Hayes
MIN is a team I'd be looking to ripoff ASAP. Try and pry away their first rounder and then pray it ends up being a lottery pick.

Lets get Cally and make sure get Tbays 1st and 2nd...........
what are we giving them?

I have zero interest in Callahan. You want a vet bring back Boyle who will be much cheaper next year.

Zucc for their 1st and 2nd? I dont know how that makes the value of the Mac/Miller trade look when it is all said and done

Oh yeah, with MK done for the year, I'd be calling them all day about Hayes but they would be really dumb to do it.

hate to say it but you want to tank ? you want a rebuild, you move 30.

unpopular for sure but he can always return to retire a ny ranger

he AINT getting a cup with us. but he might with another team....

if you want a true rebuild, you wait for a contender to have their #1 go down and you move hank.

i can promise you this, if the bolts lost vasilevskiy for the season, thats a deal made in heaven.

Nylander has 6 points in his last 6 games (yes, I know 3 came in 1 and 2 in another). He's starting to get his legs under him.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Even if Nylander long-term is a slightly worse player than Kreider, you're gaining cost certainty for another 5 years. There's also the very real potential that he becomes the better player.

I think Hank needs to come to the realization himself that a cup likely isn't in his future if he stays. He has said he's on-board for a rebuild, but I don't think he really understood what that meant. He's never been through one.

Old goalies don't exactly hold much value, either. It's a tough situation.

Edit: Also, we need to remember that we, the people of HFNYR, aren't your average fan. The average fan isn't going to stand for any action by management that could be considered disrespectful to Hank, or trying to push him out the door. Gorton has the full support of ownership during this rebuild, but a fan revolt could change that quickly. Hank has to ask out if he wants out. Gorton has been up front with him about rebuilding. The ball is in Hank's court.

They tried already, he said 'No'.

Spending $8.5M on a goalie in this cap era is a recipe for failure. Unless Hank is consistently playing like it's 2011.

38yr old Hank or 28yr old Panarin?

Tampa can trade the pick with conditions on it. I.e., if they win the cup this year it becomes a 2020 pick instead.

I'm not sure if you can made a trade with a team that owns your conditional pick with the purpose of adjusting the prior conditions.

I would prefer to settle for a slightly lesser return on Hayes/Zucc and make the deal now. If they get hurt playing the next 2-3 weeks it's a total disaster.

I think they could trade their first with the condition that it goes to a second if they win the Cup, no?

Yeah but that would be a weird condition for the acquiring team...to give up value for a first only to receive a 2nd. I'm sure they would prefer the 1st to slide to 2020.

Either way, yeah they can conditionally trade the pick even though we might own it if they win the cup.

Would be weird if Hayes went to the Peg and Zuc to Alberta and they met up in a 2nd or 3rd round playoff matchup

Return would be very underwhelming

Not bring back a 1st
