There are scary few drums beating to stir up interest in Shatty. Is his value improving?

I also think its underrated what a negative impact it has on the younger Ds to have someone like Shatty eat up the offensive minutes. Retain 50 and get him out of dodge.
I don't think we will sell low on him. We keep him and hope for the rebound next year.

Stralman has been pretty meh this year. I think his top pairing days are behind him. He's 32. What sort of contract do you give him?
I was hoping to get him at a good price. Maybe he isnt on our top pair, but i think his legs are still there. 2-3 year deal? $3 Mil AAV?

How do we know what drums are beating and what aren't?

There's no real urgency to move him this deadline. His play his improved from where he was at the start of the season coming off an injury. The team needs to be able to ice a team. Hold on to him, let him get his game back and see what happens.

McKenzie: I don’t believe Rangers are shopping Kreider

The Rangers aren't saying "no" to a Kreider deal. He has one more season remaining on his contract. If the Rangers aren't interested in re-signing him & they do trade him at the deadline, the draft is the next opportunity. Next February's trading deadline becomes the last time to trade him. His value will decrease the longer the Rangers don't trade him. They haven't told teams "no" to any interest and we are planning to re-sign Kreider in July.
We all know you want him gone.

cant wait until he stays through the rebuild as he should.

Its ok to pay some players.

Will his value improve though? It just seems like it never happens.

He have to get all the offensive minutes to not look like complete crap, how many years will that go on? I worry more about our ability to play after Staal, Smith and Shatty are done here. If we didn’t have those three I am sure we would be able to dig up some pretty capable players the coming 2-3 years. UDUFAs etc. Reclamation projects.

Now it seems like we will play with these three for the duration of the rebuild and then when we are supposed to start to compete put together a completely new blueline.

If it’s one thing all Cup winners have in common its bad contracts, lots of them...

Do you know what Kreider's camp is looking for? How do we know it's going to be a bad contract if they haven't signed one yet?

You want to sign Boyle, Stralman, Panarin and Hayes this summer. Is that what rebuilding teams should be doing?

It’s ok to not pay some players for a change.

Staal, Smith and Shatty probably aren't going anywhere before next year's TDL, at the earliest. If we bring in Stralman, not only are we paying even more for defense (which will still be bad), but we are also taking a spot away from one of ADA or Pionk. I don't know if both will still be here next year, but that has to be considered. McQuaid was sort of the same thing, but he's a guy you can have as a 6th through 8th guy. If we bring in Stralman, he's probably going to play in the top 4. I doubt either Keane or Lundqvist will be on the team next year, but we never know what other players we might get through trades or the draft. I think we can find another Stralman in a few years when we may actually need him.

And, the biggest reason why we probably shouldn't sign him is because we already have too many players whose names start with S :P

Staal, Smith, Shatty, Skjei, Strome. Shesterkin will be here next year, and maybe Sjalin. And you want to add Stralman to that? Sam (another S!) isn't getting any younger.

I'm not sure it's going to get worse.

One injury, bad stretch or whatever and he too gets completely moveable for the duration of his contract. Once a bet player gets into that territory nobody will touch them. I just think Gorton should pull the trigger when he can. And if there is — anywhere — on the roster we actually have kids that can log time it’s small flawed RDs. It just makes zero sense for me to keep Shatty around, and risk being stuck with him for two more years.

If it was up to Quinn, I don’t think he would mind one bit to be without Staal, Smith and Shatty. They can’t play his style. I am sure he would love to build something fresh.

My point was just, at the end of the day you can’t stay away from all contracts and ice a competitive team. Look at Boston, Chicago, LAK, Washington and so forth.

For me Kreider’s contract term don’t matter. The only relevant question is if Kreider will play at this level for like 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 more years? Blake Wheeler is setting new personal records every day. He is 33. Others fall off a cliff when they are 28. 2-4 and he should be moved ever if he would take 5m per for 5 years, 5-7 years and I think he should be kept even if it takes 6-7m per for 6-7 years unless we get some insane offer. Which is it?

The Rangers can play Minnesota and Winnipeg against each other. Division rivals. Could be a 1st round matchup.

It would be really dumb if Minnesota is a buyer at the deadline. Dumba and Koviu are done for the season. They have a barren prospect pool.

They should sell and trade Eric Staal to recoup some picks and a prospect. And if they make the playoffs at that point, sure whatever, they will lose in the 1st round like they always do. But really dumb if they spend assets for smoeone like Hayes

Panarin is elite.
Hayes can play C or Wing.
Boyle is better than Nieves. We can move on from Nieves. We have a ton of kids its good to have a vet like Boyle centering the 4th line.
Stralman is only an option if they move Smith out. Staal on the left side so that doesnt affect anything. Pionk is trash, trade him. ADA wont be blocked. Let Hajek get some more pro time in the A. Lindgren I see making it. I laid out the lines in another post.

There will be plenty of room for the kids. Its ok to sign some players. Need to insulate the kids with established pro talent...another reason why trading everyone imaginable is f***ing stupid

I 100% expect Hayes to be a TDL deal. Zucc or McQ i expect moved next week.
There's risk in waiting until the TDL on Hayes. If teams start to drop out of the playoff race, I'd be more aggressive with trying to get a deal done if I'm Gorton.

There's also a chance that a GM does what Poile did yesterday, and just goes out and gets their guys now, overpaying a little in the process. I wonder what the "buy it now" price is on Hayes?
