BOS has a deep prospect pool, but... Their window and the time it would take for their prospects to fill top 6 and top 4 roles doesn't line up with their Core's window.

Which is why a top center and top 6 winger would be an over the top move for them.

If you are getting 6 pieces, 4 good prospects and two high picks for Kreider and Hayes... You really speed up the rebuild.

It's a game of depth now. Cap space, plus assets is a very very good thing.

I believe that there are some fundamental difference of perspectives with what some of you on the board want and think, versus what the organization is going to do.

I know some of you are being careful of Quinn. But be careful of Gorts too.

A lot of Rangers fans have missed the Dubi/Avery/Dorsett/Carcillo kinds of players, that's one where the hype for him would be even higher outside of this place

They just dont have kids like these coming into a league anymore.

The price guys like Simmonds and Ferland are going to get is going to be tough to swallow for some.

Reeves I heard had a $3M offer. Vegas won on experience and Tax Advantage.

They haven't really targeted those types in years. It's funny, Carcillo was one of the most hated players on these boards and he was only in NY for six months, but he left his mark on our souls forever. And he seems like a really cool guy on social media.

This board latches on to proposals and sets ridiculous expectations for trade returns with every player. Kinda funny.

Not every, just the collective favorites. Usually it exceeds the price of a first line player that consistently hits 70 pts plus.

Anguish awaits the other side of the deal desk.

More quantity and less quality than what I’d want for that package.
Honestly I think Donny values mcavoy debrusk vak federic studnicka extremely high . Doubt any of those 5 will go. I think it's a mix match of young players zboril senyshyn donato bjork grez carlo that kind of combination. Oh and of coarse 1st round pick that's a staple of this kind of trade.

no matter how many dimes or quarters you trade for a dollar, they're still dimes and quarters, and you can only have so many on your roster or on the ice at once.

It's just not enough quality.

If all of those guys are walled off, you aren't getting Kreider.

Hayes, Fast
Hayes, Howden
Hayes, Namestnikov
Hayes, Staal? <-- Staal was mentioned yesterday

Would think that something like any of the aforementioned would be more likely the #13, #20

You’re right, but I also don’t want to move Kreider unless it’s bringing back a high-quality asset in the ilk of Debrusk. You can’t screw up that type of trade when we’re lacking top-6 players, and we don’t have any immediate replacements.

Does only having 1 year left make this more challenging? Of course, but it’s up for Gorton to make the right move here.

100% agreed. You need to get a premium piece back for Kreider otherwise there isn't much sense in dealing him.

I cant see this team trading Kreider. Zuc, Hayes, Namestnicov, Vesey and Fast would all have some type of value to Boston. Everyone always assumes its team a's best players coming back when that's not realistic. There is no way the Rangers trade Kreider in the East.

I couldn't agree more. Also feel like these guys are like hybrid-players. Physical and gritty bit skilled enough to play a top 6 role, where they can play that game against other clubs top forwards.

The conference and division aren’t a factor.

backes has a NMC
so does staal

It's a bit out of left field, but the more I think about it the more sense it makes. Yes, NMC is a factor.

For Backes, why waive? He's on a contender going to a pretender on the mend. So there's that. He might not waive. Then again he could retire a NYR. Maybe help by adding some leadership to a young club. Not a bad way to go out.

For Staal, why waive? He's on a pretender going to a contender. Is there another contract for #18 in two more seasons? I'm not so sure. Staal can go out saying he played his whole career for two original six clubs.

Would either player fit on each club?

Backes is not what he was. Former captain, who was as physical a forward as you could find, is now now realistically a 3rd line center who might be able to squeeze out another season in a top 6. if Hayes was gone and Chytil struggles at 2C, Backes is vet option for coach Quinn to slide in. B's have depth in their forward group. Young players need some more ice time. They just added Frederick. They have vet leadership. Marchand, Bergeron, Krejci etc. they have fat there that they can trim.

B's have 3 LD currently. Staal would be 3rd pairing on the depth chart. He has been ok this year. B's get a bit of depth there for a run, but add a significant peice at Center. Rangers have prospect depth on D. Hajek and Lindgren need room to grow. Smith can move to the left side, and let Tony D stay in the lineup.

Hayes from a value standpoint as far as I see it is 1st rounder and a B prospect. If he had term, maybe an A prospect, but let's face it. He's a Rental.

2019 1st in what seems to be shaping up as a really solid draft. Pick will likely be in the 20-25 range (Kaliyev, Suzuki, Pelletier, Hoglander) . Jacob Lauko is a nice prospect. Familiar with Chytil, played on WJC together. Great skater, good size, decent hands.

B's could swing anothe deal to clear space at the draft and re-sign Hayes.

I think this deal could make sense for both clubs.

I’m a little late to the party here but I don’t get this trade from Pittsburgh’s perspective. Bjugstad has been a disappointment in Florida and despite his size, he’s not an imposing presence in the middle. McCann is a piece of furniture. Guessing Rutherford felt he couldn’t trade another first round pick or premium prospect so he bought in the discount aisle. I’m surprised because I thought (think) this year could be the last chance for the Penguins for a deep run. Even though Brass hasn’t had a good year, he’s still the best player in the trade.
