I have a bad feeling about sending Hayes to Boston and I dont know why, I just dont feel we will get good value. Unless Vaak is coming back I literally don't know what prospect floats my boat for Hayes from them with Donato gone.

I don't really understand what kind of trade deadline move can be "unconventional" other than doing something like trading FOR Stone/Panarin/Duchene in order to re-sign them for 8 years prior to FA. Taking on a bad contract is a relatively common occurrence.

3-31 way trade incoming??

Unless it’s a longer term contract or player who is on IR

Taking on a bad contract when dealing with another team is pretty common. Unconventional might be participating in a deal between two other teams as a facilitator. For example the Lightning and Senators want to deal, but the Sens won't take on salary and the Bolts have to dump some. So the Rangers get a few picks or a prospect in exchange for taking Callahan.

Still, the truly unconventional move is an offer sheet. I still have a hard time seeing a rebuilding team going with that option though. What guy could they offer sheet that guarantees that their 1st in 2020 isn't a lottery pick? Nobody that I can think of.

Mckenie on NBCSN said the Rangers are getting a lot of action on their three pending UFAs.

He suspects a first and a prospect or Hayes, a second and a prospect for Zucc, a third for McQuaid by Monday.

They didn't. Friedman said that the Leafs Assistant GM was at the Canes/Rangers game and other pundits have linked the Leafs to McQuaid. The Kreider stuff is all speculation from fans at this point.

Somewhere on HFNYR in 2025: "The Rangers should have moved Kreider to Toronto in 2019 when they had the chance."

Bob McKenzie was on NBCSN on Wednesday and said:
  • “Rangers are continuing to get a lot of action on their potential rentals, Kevin Hayes, Mats Zuccarello and Adam McQuaid and right now it’s fair to say that more likely than not that all three of them will be traded by Monday. There seems to be a fair amount of action on all of them.”
  • “The sense seems to be that Hayes can fetch a first round pick and prospect.”
  • “Zuccarello could fetch a 2nd round pick and prospect.”
  • McQuaid could fetch, potentially, a third round pick.”
  • “These are very fluid situations and right now it seems like all of the focus of the Rangers is on trying to trade those players. That is not to say that if they don’t like what is on the table for any of them that they couldn’t go back to each of their reps and see if they could fashion a contract extension but right now all the focus is on trying to trade these guys and those prices are what the Rangers are hopeful, optimistic and expecting to get.”

He’s been asleep all year. These moves should have been made by the draft.
Or he's very awake and his plan for the team isn't identical to yours.

They weren't going to move McDonagh, Nash and Grabner and then also move Zuccarello and Hayes at the next draft. That team would be absolute trash and no place for young players to learn the ropes imo.

Bob McKenzie said on the NBCSN pre-game show for Hawks-Wings, the Rangers focus is on trading their expiring contracts.

The Rangers expect to receive

1st & a prospect for Hayes

2nd & a prospect for Zuccarello.

3rd round pick for McQuaid.

IF thats the case, these guys shouldn't play another game until after they're moved.

So here would be my ask from Boston since Hayes probably isnt a rental for Boston.
2019 1st + Studnicka/JFK + Backes (no retention) + Payment for Backes + conditional pick if Hayes resigns.

If it's only a 2nd and a prospect for Zucc that prospect better be good. Zucc has been one of the hottest players in the league recently

There in lies the issue.

We should be happy that hes played his way back to that kind of value if thats all he yields. Can't imagine the prospect being grade A, but B to B+ is certainly possible.

Sounds about right. Sucks that we won't get more for Zucc though.
