Lets play a game..... Last offseason:
- Hayes was one year removed from a ****ty ass sophomore season, and had a year of RFA time left
>Still considered as a 3C league wide and this years scoring and a contract year pop
- We had no clue Zibanejad was capable of this kind of play
>Good point but also this has nothing to do with any of the other pieces at this point
- We had no idea if Andersson was Pettersson part 2
>I don't think anyone expected Pettersson. We thought he'd be the 3C like Howden is now
- We had no idea if Chytil was staying up with the team
>Its pretty clear the mandate is Chytil sticks in the NHL no matter what
^^^These last four questions are basically "Wtf is our center depth at this point?" individually bulletted for you
- We had no idea if Spooner was a 50+ point guy going forward
>We all knew this by watching the games
- We had no idea if Namestnikov was a 50+ point guy going forward
>We all knew this by watching the games
- We had no idea What DeAngelo was because AV severely limited his playing time
>Fair point but how does Signing a RD and then trading for another allow you to see what he is other than injury(which is what happened this year)
- We were unsure if Skjei's ****ty ass 2017-18 season was a fluke (after the Shattenkirk signing)
>Not sure what this has to do with anything he is already signed long term. Hes part of the plan just got to figure out which part
- We didn't know if Hank could sustain the level of play he's at right now (I think he can but this is opinion)
>No one expected Hank to fall off a cliff. I imagine they expected exactly what theyre getting right now

We now have answers to all those questions, so now it's time to cross the Hayes bridge. You can't make up answers for those questions without seing what you have

I'm fairly confident all my answers now are the same that they would've been in the offseason...

Answers above for reference.

Coyle trade could hurt the value/return for Hayes, no?
He's a seasoned vet, and MIN is one of the very few sellers out west, if they get a good return for him it can benefit Hayes but vice versa doesn't really work because Coyle is a very different center for a buying team.

Minnesota is like looking into the Rangers future.

They signed praise and Suter to try and accelerate their rebuild.

Almost 7 years later, they’re basxially where we are with what, a single playoff round win to their name? Or is it 2?

Either way, those who are getting ready to bust out the balloons if gorton signs the UFAs or goes ham during the summer should look at them as the ultimate cautionary tale.

I like Kapanen more than Namestnikov, but Namestnikov would also score a lot for Toronto.

One downside with Kapanen is that he will get paid fairly much fairly soon too.

I like Andreas Johansson too, but recon that TML want to keep him for Cap reasons.

I am not a fan of — getting — Liljegren. I’ve seen a lot of him over the years. Think he kind of have gone in the wrong direction. Doesn’t skate a ton or cover a ton of ice. Real PP specialist, blueline QB 5 on 5. He is good at that — no doubt. But I don’t see a ton of potential and between TDA, Pionk and Nils Lundkvist we already have 3 guys like this.

Minnesota never rebuilt after the Lemaire years, they just got off the 10th OV treadmill

They had multiple high picks in a row in Dumba-Granlund-Brodin.

They even landed a former 5OA in a steal of a trade (yes this happened later)

That’s the direction we’re headed in if JG does what he shouldn’t do.

Do the Leafs want Kreider? The Leafs are playing the Bruins in the first round of the playoffs. I was listening to Leafs Lunch this morning and LeBrun was on. The Leafs might have to make a deal to match up with Boston.

Apparently, McQuaid to the Leafs isn't a possibility.

Dreger said the same thing last week about it not being the right fit.

Assuming that's accurate. The Leafs are interested in someone else on the Rangers. LeBrun said Gilman was looking at the Rangers.

The Leafs have Kapanen who would be a building block player for the Rangers. Kapanen will be a group II without arbitration rights this summer. He turns 23 in July. The Leafs are concerned about an offer sheet and Kapanen won't be cheap to re-sign. Kreider is signed through 2019-20 at $4.65M. The Leafs would have a better opportunity to win(beat Boston at the least) with Kreider than Kapanen.

The Leafs don't want to trade Sandin. They didn't want to move him for Muzzin. Would they move him in a Kreider deal? Liljegren needs a lot of work. I heard Craig Button on Leafs Lunch(it was either yesterday or last week)that Liljegren isn't ready for the NHL this season & he won't be ready next season either in his opinion.

The Leafs traded their 1st this June to LA in the Muzzin trade.

1st round pick in 2020 would work. The Rangers spread out the draft picks.

Kreider has an 11 team no trade list. Is Toronto on it? Would he waive it to win a Cup with Matthews?

Kapanen would fit nicely with the Rangers rebuild. Right handed shooting RW.

Im not sure who floated the idea around in the last thread about Krieder + Zuc to Nashville for Fabbro, Fiala, and a first. What your proposing is another place that makes sense. Liljegren + Kapanen +2020 first for both

Those contracts are only halfway through their lifespan lmao RIP

I don't share your pessimism. I really like our mgmt team and think pretty much everything they've done has been defensible :help:
