Tell me what player we’ve had that’s ever been close to Ovechkin (even at 32)The irony is Ovechkin was 32 when he finally won a Cup. Half of you would have been screaming to trade him 5 years ago for Yakupov, straight up.
The Leafs had Kadri get run over last night. For a team that was concerned about getting pushed around prior to last night, I can see them making a couple of moves to help in that regard. McQuaid.
Nonsense.
I had no problem seeing this team go for it during Lundqvist's peak. If we had AO here I doubt 1/2 the people on this forum would have been screaming to trade him for anything.
Very foolish post.

Not that it will happen, but at this point if they don't move Hayes and Zucc it would be considered a disaster for me

The nature of UFA prices wrapped up in one sentence.Shattenkirk signed as a UFA to what is perceived as a big discount, ironically even with that discount that contract still seem not very good.
I can guarantee you that if Ovechkin were a Ranger for 12 years and didn't win a Cup, this board would have run him out of town. His name would have come up in every possible trade scenario for whatever 19 year old was drafted the year before.
Gorton traded McDonagh, Miller, Nash, Grabner, and Holden around and at the deadline last season. That's a top-pairing D, a bottom-pairing D, two top-6 Fs, and a top-9 F.It should have been done last summer. Instead we kept them and Spooner and namestnikov so that we could make sure we stayed out of the bottom 5. Terrible job by gorton. Throw in signing McQuaid so we could block DeAngelo for half the games.

Imagine Ovechkin and Jagr on the opposite side of the PP?I can guarantee had Ovechkin been here, we would have won a cup.
Maybe Several.
Riddle me this: Why haven't we run Lundqvist out of town yet? He's been here longer than 12 years too.
And in my opinion that's a good thing. he needs to put the league on notice that they're not going to get away with fleecing the Rangers of these players. we will keep them if need be. Its called leverage. It's more telling to me that he doesn't say anything, then all of a sudden, 5 days away he comes out and say this, not to Larry Brooks mind you (a noted voice used by the NYR to leak what they wish, when they wish) but by Matt Larkin of the HN
He wants the league to know that's he's not against signing them.

Also fair to say Stepan’s game shouldn’t decline as steeply as the other two. I was happy with the trade, but I agree Stepan was way earlier in his career arc when traded.Gomez was 30 when we traded him.
Gaborik was 31.
Stepan was traded a month after his 27th birthday.
Big difference in ages, and Gomez/Gaborik were both clearly starting to decline. Stepan still had years left in his prime.
Well, you can't. Fans don't dictate what teams do. So if that's what you took from my post, let's just forget it.
