But if our GM was doing what you wanted him to do, this year's team would be much, much, much different than it is. So go ahead and play chess or hungry hungry hippos and let the pros play hockey.
He is doing what I want him to do. Hopefully he doesn't do what you want him to do.

No, but it should be more than a 1 year rebuild, those don’t work
This is year 1. Next is year 2. I think they can be competitive in “year 3” of the rebuild as in being a tough out in the playoffs. That is not unrealistic.

People dont want Panarin because it hurts the tank capability for next season. I think some here would enjoy rebuilding forever. There is no reason to think that the prospects we already have plus what we add via trades and the draft this year cant become very very good players, maybe even great and help us win with added pieces from different channels

You want reality?

1 Cup in the last 80 ****ing years.

What do Washington, Pittsburgh, and Chicago have in common? They drafted their core. Elite players plucked early. They filled out the rest of our roster through trades and UFA's. Some of the players they traded or signed have moved on, but their core is still there.

Gorton needs to follow the same blueprint. Who's the future face of our franchise? Chytil and Kravtsov? This draft and next years draft are loaded. This is when we need to stock up on as many picks as possible. Signing Panarin is going to prevent us from bottoming out. You may not want to admit this but you're part of the Stay Competitive While Rebuilding Crowd.

I want us to do something we have never done before. I think it's time this team puts themselves in position to draft an elite superstar that we can ultimately build around.

And what do Edmonton, Florida and Buffalo all have in common? I'll wait.

I'll say this again, regardless of what you or I want, the Rangers are never going to purposely tank. If that was their plan, they would have sold guys off last summer. And I'm 100% with the Stay Competitive Crowd. Right up until the day the NHL changes the draft lottery rules.

And maybe you're too young to remember, but they put themselves in position to draft Crosby, and they got unlucky and the pick went to Pittsburgh. Being bad guarantees you nothing but being bad.

I actually think they have very little in common.

Washington drafted their core...and didn't win a thing until year 13.

Pittsburgh drafted their core...but really it was because they got lucky in a post-lockout expansion draft where every team had roughly the same odds.

Chicago drafted their core..yes they did (also had a bunch of failed early picks though)

I don't understand the distinction, but ok.

Did the Scott Gomez and Marian Gaborik trades also signify the start rebuilds?
Gomez was 30 when we traded him.

Gaborik was 31.

Stepan was traded a month after his 27th birthday.

Big difference in ages, and Gomez/Gaborik were both clearly starting to decline. Stepan still had years left in his prime.

They signed shattenkirk a week later.

I think the plan was to see what they had and slowly strip away with out forcing the tank. That’s a plan that isn’t too bad, it keeps things from being dire for too long but it went into warp speed mode last year after we saw just how much this team needs to rebuild.

It’d be a shame to watch the FO go from clear headed to **** headed this quickly. We’re really a calendar year into this whole thing, it’s not the time to be doing things that are drastic and/or stupid
I see zero reason to think the FO is doing anything other than staying the course other than messageboard anxiety.

I’m not sure that’s the case.

Who doesn't covet any of those players you mentioned??? Where's the vending machine you can go buy them at? And who wants any of the other guys you mentioned. Hyperbole much? What's even your point with this? Good lord.
My point is that those players were acquired in one vending machine... the VERY top of the draft and those of you who want to resign Hayes, Zucc (Nash and Grabner last yr) will never, EVER have access to that vending machine because it'll be empty. You'll be left there to lick the crumbs off the wrappers, in the trash can, left by the smart teams who purchased them ahead of you.

Take a look at that tweet above.

Unless thats all lip service to attempt to drive up the price (which is may be), this is a decision that should have been made by now.

Extending those guys would be a massive failure, less so with Hayes but still a pretty big f*** up and a signal that JG has no idea which direction he wants to go in other than straight to Minnesota Wildville.

WTF DO THEY PAY YOU ALL SEASON FOR GORTS!!!

You ****ing goof... You should've been making that decision last offseason.

This, I would assume, is posturing trying to get more for their rentals

Bingo. The decision has already been made to trade these guys. Gorton is pretty tight-lipped, so why leak this now? Gorton already knows the approximate numbers to keep Hayes and Zucc. The man is running an ebay auction, and no one has met the "buy it now" price. He wants a better offer than what's currently out there, but I feel he will ultimately take the best offer on both players unless it's a gross underpayment.
