MRW I just sat down and opened up this thread to find someone trying to argue intermediate math

A team who would probably LOVE to have McQuaid is Pittsburgh. They're going to have to face Washington in the playoffs. They just traded Oleksiak away (probably with an eye towards gaining some cap space moving forward). Would they and the Rangers make a deal? Zuccarello has proven chemistry with Brassard. Zuccarello + McQuaid to Pittsburgh?

I wouldn't have any problem with that the only thing is what does Pittsburgh have to offer?? Their Prospect list is rail-thin.

Brassard is imminently gone from Pittsburgh. Matter of time.

I think you may be close to something here. If the Penguins can find a buyer for Brassard, perhaps it becomes a Hayes and McQuaid package. Hayes would be much better to round out the Penguins up the middle than Brassard. Brassard could bring back ammunition (e.g. a first or a real good prospect) that might be included in a Hayes/McQuaid deal. The Rangers could help out by retaining salary.

Why not just cut out the middleman and theoretically trade Hayes to that team?

However, scratching him (or anyone) while continuing to send Howden out there to die, and continuing to send McLeod out there to make everyone else die, is representative of problematic philosophies within the organization, that being, you can literally be bad if you try hard.
This is a ridiculous take.

It's not a "take."

This team has been icing bad players since I can walk.

They go out of their way to do so. (like going 11/7 tonight, for example)

Now is the time to see whether Buchnevich will ever get his head of out of his ass and play the way the coaches want him to. Sitting Mcleod, who is a waste of space but knows his role, and sending out the guy who's not listening to you doesn't make a whole lot of sense either. He's obviously not getting the message - time to figure out if he ever will (here) or see what offers you get before the deadline.

Yeah, and he's played very well next to Doughty on the left side. They were a dominant pair for a while, but without Doughty Muzzin is a marginal player who got a King's ransom.

I'm not saying he's bad, he's a very reliable player who coaches can count on to play mistake free hockey and get pucks to scoring areas.

But there's the Muzzin-Doughty pair, anf then there's Muzzin.

On Buch-

The issue is that he doesn't forecheck, backcheck, cause turnovers, create chances, hit or move his feet.

For him to be an offensive star, he needs the kind of dick swagger that comes with that, and he just doesn't have that type of dick swagger. So he needs to do all of the other things to be a complete player because the only players who get away without playing a complete game are the ones that produce elite offense.

The past is irrelevant. Dave Karpa and Shane Churla don't play here anymore.

11/7 seems fine if you're Quinn and want to send a message to both Pavel Buchnevich (bad) and Brendan Smith (good) individually.

But your take that organizationally they're happy if you're bad is like... cmon.

They've proven it over and over again.

Sounds like the kind of guy a benching might motivate (???).

I really don't understand the preoccupation with the 12th forward on a bad roster. It's just weird. Not just you either, this happened with Glass and before that Stu Bickel and Mike Rupp.

At some point I think you have to assume these guys add something, and just because you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.

Honestly I don't think so. If Jussi Jokinen didn't play a complete game, would you want him on your team?

If that's a no, then that's what you have with Pavel at the moment.

Advanced metrics for dick swagger?

Probably not. Soft 2nd line wingers are not in short supply.

But Buch is here now so you try. IMO.
